Thoughts on sharing an entree

You can share, and if you tell your server many times the chef will split the meal in the kitchen for you.

O'hana and Crystal Palace are buffet/family style, so no sharing is allowed. One TS credit required for each person at the table, no matter how much they eat or don't eat.

Otherwise, sharing is allowed on the DDP at most non-buiffet, aycte, or family style restaurants. A small handfull of restaurants, most notably Via Napoli, do not allow sharing when on the DDP, however.

Thanks DisBuckMan! This is first time I'm staying on property and have DDP so I'm a little green. :)

We leave a lot on the table but use all our credits. We find it fun to try new things every trip. We also diet heavily before so we don't feel guilty being pigs during the vacation. It's really the only time we eat desserts.

As a restaurant worker I never understood why some other restaurants complain about people sharing (obviously not talking about buffets or fixed price pp seats)

Because a party of four buying two meals takes up the same table space as a party of four buying four meals, but doesn't pay as much? I can totally understand why a restaurant would prefer to maximise the revenue from each table - every table being used by meal-splitters is real eatate that can't be used by non-meal-splitters.

I don't have anything against meal-splitting, but it's easy to see why a restaurant would prefer to sell the maximum number of meals per table.

My DD and I are small eaters so we share quite a bit at TS places and we have never had a problem! We sometimes order an appetizer or dessert to share and then we share an entree. We have always had nice wait staff and do not make us feel uncomfortable for doing this.

The first time DH and I shared an entree, it was split in the kitchen onto two plates to which full servings of side dishes were added. This is not what I wanted. We were not trying to get the most for our money, but to right-size our meal. After that I made sure to tell the server my motivation, and I didn't have problems after that.

We do it all the time. We have never been charged for an extra plate.

Sometimes it's to much food , and to hot to eat as much as they give you. I am certainly not carrying a doggie bag around the world... Plus, sometimes I want to leave room for a snack later !!

My DDIL had a GBP and hjust cannot eat an entire meal. We are usually using the DDP and so we get dessert with dinner, so we will sometimes split the entree and then we both can enjoy our dessert. This worked well when there were three of us traveling together. Two meals between three women a few times made a great day! We were able to enjoy the snacks and sweets around the world, and not feel so uncomfortably full that we all needed a nap.

I also greatly appreciate this question coming up. My mom and I have a res at Le Cellier. I've wanted to try it for a while and really want to try the cheese soup. I was seriously thinking that she and I could each order an app, share an entree and side, then order 1-2 desserts to share. I know one of the pp's said they've split entrees at most of the signature restaurants, but does anyone think that sharing a steak might be an issue?

Not at all. You can share any entrée, and most times the chef will split it for you. Just tell the server that is your intention, with the appetizer as well as your entrée.

When DW and I are visiting and are a TS, often the portions are much larger than we really need and by the end of our visit, even when trying to be "good" we bring back more pounds then when we arrived. Does Disney frown on placing one order and then requesting a plate so an entrée can be shared? I can understand that they may charge for the extra plate, and that would be OK, but just wondered if any of you ever do this.

We have.

The only issue I see would be if you are on DDP. But I don't have experience with that. ETA: per above it looks like it is okay at most but not all non-buffet, non-Family style places.

Members of our party, paying OOP, have consistently been able to share entrees with no issue.

Thank you! its nice to know that we won't necessarily need to drop $50 each on a steaks if we aren't hungry enough to really enjoy it.

I think a dining party should be able to order as much or little as they want at any restaurant and if people want to share, then go for it. Personally, I'm not that comfortable doing that, but that's just me. I certainly don't begrudge anybody who does. We are always on the dining plan, usually deluxe, and we always order an entree per person. I rarely ever eat it all (especially on deluxe when I get an app too), but I love being able to enjoy so many different dishes, which I can enjoy without forcing myself to over eat.

We are planning to do that on a few meals. I was wondering about The Wave, we are thinking of splitting an appetizer, and the beef tenderloin dinner. Do you think it's a big enough steak to split?

If we split something or I just get an appetizer instead of an entrée, we up the tip to cover the loss of income on the server. Especially if we are using TIW which automatically adds an 18% tip.

I am so glad to hear meals can be shared TS restaurants. I am taking my nieces (12 & 16) and daughter (11) this October. We are not on the dining plan. I have one niece who eats like a bird. A daughter who is way too picky and examines her food with a magnifying glass. My other niece is a great eater and will try new foods. I was hoping my bird and picky eaters could share a meal. I will tip accordingly so not to short change the server.
