We spent the past week freezing at The World, but at least the food kept us going. Our favorite restaurant, once again, was Le Cellier. We're all converting from the filet to the NY Strip from now on, as LC's is fabulous. We ate there on a Thursday night, Jan. 7, and they were turning people away at the door right and left. Yet the restaurant itself had quite a few empty tables the whole time we were there. The service was great, although some things came out wrong ... undercooked prime rib, a wrong side dish, etc. But everything was promptly remedied.
Kona Cafe was still great; service, food, everything top notch. Although my daughter has had better sushi elsewhere. The ginger-crusted ribeye was wonderful. Two of us had the chocolate fondue for dessert, but the chocolate turned hard before we could finish it. If you order that, eat fast!
We tried the Coral Reef for the first time, and just our luck they led us (past many empty tables) to the far end of the top tier. I had to actually turn around to see the acquarium. I had a better view of fish tanks at the Rainforest Cafe! But we were there for the food after all, and it was fine. Their tile fish was replaced with Red Snapper, which I had. Good but not great. The mahi and (very small piece of) grouper were fine as well. But my son's NY strip was the best thing of all; very tasty. Not nearly as good as LC's, but still the best dish at our table. I will have to add though, that the Chocolate Wave was wonderful!
And Boma ... I expected to not like it much (and I didn't), and for my DH and DD-18 to love it. DD liked it, and that was about it. There wasn't as much selection of foods as we were expecting (never saw any potatoes at all); and what was there was, to us, not as good as, say, the Crystal Palace. We didn't think the flavors were overly weird, like some people say. The bread pudding was great though.
We had to wait quite a while to be seated at Chefs de France on Wednesday night (6:10 ADR), and it was soooo cold out. Fortunately they had heaters set up in the outdoor waiting area, which helped tremendously. They apologized to everyone for the long delay, which they said was due to people lingering after they were finished because of the cold. Anyhow, we ended up being seated practically at the same table next to us, they were so close together. Our food was fine, though nothing really stood out.
We ended up leaving a day early and had a TS credit left to use, so we went to the Plaza when they opened for lunch on Friday, and got right in. It's basically just a sandwich shop, although they did offer a meatloaf dinner that day as well. I don't understand all the rave reviews of people going gaga over this place. The sandwiches were good, but not spectacular by any means. The ice cream desserts were good too, but they overloaded the banana split which ended up spilling out of the dish all over the place.
As far as counter service, our favorites were Columbia Harbor House (the shrimp basket was soooo good!), Sunshine Seasons (great variety), Yorkshire Fish & Chips, Flame Tree BBQ (luckily we found a table in the full sun, as it's all outdoors), and the Tangierine Cafe (lots of good stuff on the plate). I got a chocolate croissant at the bakery in France at Epcot, and there was virtually no chocolate at all inside ... very disappointing. As far as wait times with our ADRs, the only long wait we had was at Chefs. We never waited more than 5 minutes anywhere else (maybe 10 at Le Cellier).
And thank goodness for the Dining Plan, since after seeing the prices they charge for everything ($2.75 for a bottled coke), my DH would be in sticker shock forever! One more thing ... I paid the tips with cash, and that seemed to delight our servers to no end. Maybe it was because when they gave us the receipt to sign, I left the tip amount blank and they thought they were being stiffed. And then were surprised to get a tip after all. Who knows. But they really liked the cash, I can tell you.
