Hey everyone, my BIL recently suggested we use our DVC to go to Hilton Head for big family trip next year. Have never stayed, DS is 5 and DD will be 3 by then, dying to get back to Disney World, but thinking about enjoying time with extended family. Big question, never stayed at the Hilton Head property, can anybody give me their thoughts, enough for a 2 and 5 year old to be truly "enchanted"?

Your questions sound like mine 2 years ago. We visited for the first time with a 5 year old who also loves WDW but would now choose HHI over WDW (at least when the weather is warm enough to swim). The CMs at HHI are just great and they really go all out to make the activities for kids fun. We were heart broken when we had to cancel our HHI trip this year because of health issues and can't wait (health permitting) to go back in 2010.

Thanks for your input!!! I'm so torn, last WDW was 11/08, my DD is so much more into princess: now, and my son is all about the pirate:, and tall enough for all the rides that he would so love to go on. And I am so missing the magic :wizard: I want to make sure that I don't regret using points for HHI. Can I ask what time of year you traveled???

My kids also pick HHI over WDW when given the choice (12, 7 and 5).

It is fun, pretty, quaint, even at maximum capacity it is still not crowded, best of both worlds...beach and bay, fireworks on Tuesday....so much to say!

You won't get the characters at HHI that you get at WDW, but the CMs are great and the activities and food quite plenty for most kids. There are activities for young and old, plenty of beach space (though you have to either walk, bike, drive, or take a shuttle there--less than a mile), and the main pool (there is also one at the HHI beach area) is loads of fun. Food options on-site are limited, but there are plenty of good eateries within walking distance or a short drive away. Not sure I'd pick it over a WDW DVC resort most years, but I certainly think it would be a worthwhile alternative at least once.

We generally visit HH during our Fall Break in October. It's a great time of year to go! Weather is still warm, but crowds are low. My family of five loves it. Kids now are 16, 13, & 9, but when they were much younger, they loved it too. My youngest used to call HH "my home". All through his years at preschool, once he was able to talk, his teachers would ask where he lived and he said "Hilton Head". Last year we went to WDW during fall break, I think we all really missed our vacation to HH. I think it would be a great place for an extended family vacation. Some year we hope to talk our extended family into going too! But as much as I love it - the ages of your children also makes WDW an extra magical trip. I think from 3 -6 years old were my favorite memories of my kids enjoying WDW (except for the occasional melt downs!!!!)

We went during Memorial week. It was nice and warm but not too hot and we didn't have to worry about hurricane season.
