We did Backstage Magic and loved it. Thinking of going BACK to CA next summer and flying into San Fran for the ABD San Fran then driving down to LA and doing things along the way.

Me, DH and DD18 at time. We don't drink so is the wine a BIG part of this trip? Is the olive oil sugar scrub thing cheezy for adults to do?

IS there good value in this trip do you think? I loved Backsstage Magic but this trip isn't packing the wow factor for me but I would for sure entertain it. 1999 is a decent price per person...

Thoughts???

Wine is not a big part of the SF trip. There's only one winery visit. It happens to be Silverado Vineyards, which is owned by Walt's Son-in-law, Ron Miller who was married to Diane Disney.

Thanks! Did you find the trip enjoyable? Could you see am 18 year old enjoying it? I just want to make sure there is enough activity etc

Oh yes, we enjoyed it very much. Lots of good SF stuff. A visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum. A trip to Muir Woods. A cruise to an island that was basically the Ellis Island of the West Coast.

Now, I don't know if your 18 YO will like it though. Hard for me to say. But there are lots of activities happening.

DS and I do not drink but we L O V E D Silverado. The views were awesome! Tour was great and the company of my fellow adventurers was fantastic!! DS (12) had a blast doing the Salt scrub and cork art.

Thanks!!! I just called ABD and ironically my vacationista was a San Fransisco girl who raved about the trip...thanks for the input!

not sure why my reply didn't post but THANK YOU for the helpful input!

Scottmel...first thing I noticed is the hotel switch. We are at the Fairmont and the website now states it is the Omni. No breakfast is included, for us, it is. Also, it says we will have a picnic lunch on Angel Island and the 2017 itinerary says lunch is on your own. Also, Lucasfilms doesn't mention anything about a private screening in their theatre, which was clearly stated in the 2016 itinerary.
Also, it starts at 2 PM on the first day, where ours starts at breakfast (included), but that also means we absolutely have to fly in the night before.
So, there are quite a number of the that have changed. Not sure they are deal breakers. Although, while I havene researched the Omni, I will say that, personally, I'm looking forward to the Fairmont. Maybe someone else can comment in changes and if they would be a drastic departure from the previous itinerary?

Looking at the differences between our trip and the 2017 itinerary, I really enjoyed the breakfast at the Fairmont. It was the only breakfast included, though.

Thanks. I noted the same differences on the NYC ABD. Change of hotel, arrival of 2 pm, zero breakfasts and losing a small side activity. We are east coast so arriving few days early is essential and then staying an extra week as well - driving down the coast. So I am ok with the hotel and the 2 pm ... Odd about the film screening wouldn't think that would cost them anything don't they now own Lucas??? Thanks much for taking the time to reply. This wasn't an ABD we were THINKING of until we thought driving down the coast would be fun (did BSM last summer and loved it) so thought ABD SAN FRAN nice way to start a trip and you know how it goes from there.....wheels in motion!!! Thanks!

I think it still looks like a great trip, and I'm sure you guys will enjoy. I just booked BSM for next December, so I'm excited about that also.
Yeah, you would think the screening wouldn't be a big deal, and, maybe it is still there and just not listed. But, again, not sure how much this added to the experience. My husband and I are excited to see Lucasfilms, so it is a big deal for us. Obviously, not the only reason to go,but it does add something for us. I'm going to try to do a trip report when I get back. I've so much appreciated all of the ones I've read and I'm hoping I can repay the favor.
Enjoy your trip. You guys will have a lot of fun
