Thoughts of My first trip "home" to BWV (LONG) - visited SSR - thoughts...

I think the stairways were intended as fire escapes, not for regular use, so they didn't decorate them. We stayed in 3121 a couple of years before and there was a sign on the door "emergency exit only" (didn't stop us from using it ) but the sign was gone last year. I don't understand why the architect didn't put in elevators at the far ends of the halls.

I can now see how it is the way it is now, and what you say gives good explanation. I would bet they realized that people didn't appreciate having to go all the way to the lobby or wherever, then all the way back out to the pool or whatever, so they took off the 'emergency exit' signs. At least Disney can adapt a bit. It still would be nice if they would keep them a bit cleaner and nicer since they now know that guest traffic is in here frequently. The doorway at the ground floor by the pool was completely dark from scuff marks, etc. Anyways, just a little wierd!

These are comments often made in regards to OKW too. I never find the walk that far when comparing walks to lobbies and main pools at other resorts. I feel I had just as long a walk from my BWV room (at the end of the hallway) to the lobby, bus stop or main pool as I have from most of the bldgs at OKW to main pool/HH/bus stops area

I did feel the walk to the building where the models were at SSR was fairly long - maybe twice as long as the longest walk to our room at the BWV, and seeing as this is one of the closest buildings to the main building, I just felt a little overwhelmed at how spread out this place is. Now, remember, I said it was 94 when we were walking around and really, a 5 minute walk in 94 degrees with no shade is killer, and I am no wimp!!! I believe if it were a beautiful 80 with low humidity I couldn't care less that it was a longer walk to the main area. The thing at BWV is that the walk is in a/c - actually it was the some of the coldest a/c we have ever been in. At BWV, you are also inside which is a big help with these afternoon thunderstorms going on lately.

Realizing that, I do appreciate how those that appreciate OKW and SSR do like the 'away from it all' feeling. One of my closest friends is a huge OKW fan, and it's just right for them - it is just a personal thing as to one's preferences! They like to come to Disney and don't focus as much on the parks - they like the golf and swimming more, etc., so it is just right for them. Really, once the bridge is built to DD, I would appreciate the short walk from a room near the bridge at SSR to DD - there are pro's and con's to everything.

Thanks for appreciating my comments! I really appreciated reading (for a LONG time) all of your comments in anticipation! Nothing beats experiencing something on your own, but this board is really the next best thing!

And we do focus on the parks and still find OKW is our favorite. It's nice that DVC offers something different for all kinds of tastes !

This is true. As I haven't been to SSR I can't dispute what you've said about the spread-out feeling. Walking in the heat does make things feel longer (and in the cold for that matter too---coming from a northeasterner !). We felt our walk from BWV to Epcot in 90+ degree heat was too long----ended up wimping out and going for the Friendship boat ! lol But the walk was much more tolerable in the cooler evening temps. As for rain----walking in the rain in FL just doesn't bother us any more ! We've gotten used to all the frequent downpours ! lol
