Am I going nuts? Pete sounds "funny" on this week's show. I can hear and understand him fine, but he sounds different. I can't describe it, like he's talking into a fan or something. It's more noticeable in the beginning of the show and it only seems to be Pete. Like he has a warble or an echo. I was listening on my mom's computer yesterday, so I thought it was her speakers or something, but now I'm listening again at home and I can still hear it. Anyone else hear it or am I losing it?

It was very hot on Tuesday and there were a bunch of people in the room where we record, so we did have a ceiling fan on...which we usually dont.

You might hear a hum in the background, but that shouldnt only affect Pete.

Not sure what else it could be.

It's definitely the fan effect. I noticed it right away and remember this happening before.

I don't thing it was the fan.

It was only affecting Pete's voice. It wasn't an echo but a slight "shake" to his voice. Especially in the very beginning of the broadcast

Right, like a shake, which does sound like a fan though, only thing is, it's weird
I only hear it from Pete.

It's all good, not complaining about the show at all, just wanted to know if I was the only hearing it and what it might be.

I heard it, too. Then it went away. Then later, for a short time it was back again.

It was like he was echoing (or underwater), sort of. Double-ble talk-alk; hard-d to-o follow-low, a little-le bit-it.

It wasn't horrible, but it was a little distracting.

Could be a fan, I guess. That's as good an explanation as any.

Could the fan have been having an effect on just Pete's recording device?

When encoding for any compressed codec, especially MP3, audio can become distorted if it falls within a certain harmonic. Pete's voice has a wide dynamic range, it is very possible that the higher overtones are being mangled in the compression process.

That's what I meant by "it could have been the fan".:thumbsup2

Just finished the latest podcast. Pete's voice was "odd" during the start of the podcast. But the sound either changed or my ears adjusted. I did not have a problem hearing him after the first few minutes.

Maybe he was just warming up for the rant. :lmao:

Later,
Dan

Either explanation works for me. I actually prefer the "fan" one, as I have some shot at understanding that, having yelled into fans as a kid to hear my voice make that sound. :)

I just didn't want the poor OP to start thinking she was nuts or all alone.

It's not you. I'm not sure where it's coming from but I spent quite a bit of time trying to mitigate it in post production. I'll get it figured out though.

Pete

:yay: I'm not going crazy - well at least as far as Pete's voice this week goes

:rolleyes1

I remember yelling into fans when I was younger just to hear my voice make that sound. Now I know why my mom always yelled at me for making that "annoying sound" :)
