Yea, it's a painful thing to see. Also, think if a boat did come down and he got hit. There would be a big investigation, and I can see the headlines now "How Safe Are You At Theme Parks." When the kid is the one who stupidly ran in front of a moving ride vehicle.

But of course, the parents wouldn't admit that. "Those safety walls weren't tall enough!"

I read somewhere that the staff did know he went into the water so the ride was shut down. Regardless, the kid is a moron and he's lucky he didn't get hurt.

TOTALLY AGREE!!!! People don't abide by the safety "rules" and then are the first in line to sue when they get hurt.

Since we're on the subject of stories of stupidity at the parks, I have a wonderful one...

My family's last ride on Back to the Future... on our last Universal trip before it was shut down... I'll never forget it, and I'm incredibly glad I insisted we take one last ride on it... which at the time, some of my party objected too, but are all now glad I talked them into it... because we saw a sight I imagine is a once in a lifetime thing to see, and now we have an awesome story to tell (which I'm about too...)

So anway, Last ride of the day, last ride of the trip, last ride ever on Back to the Future... (for us anyway, not the -real- last ride of the ride ever)...

As I'm sure many of you are aware, you load into the car, it raises up about 10 feet into an auditorium with a bunch of other cars, big screen starts playing, Biff says Butt-Head, yadda yadda yadda...

So the ride is going smoothly and all of a sudden it shuts down. Cars come to a dead stop, screen shuts down, all the lights turn on, everyone goes, "What the heck is going on?"

We're all still strapped in, and fairly confused, but me, my sister, her boyfriend & my friend are all in the front row, so we can see around most of the auditorium...

We start looking around for signs of what's going on, and look off a few cars to our left and see a woman who looks to be in her late 20s/early 30s outside of her car... repeat OUTSIDE of her car, standing on the ride scaffolding platforms next to it.

She's got a very "uh oh" look on her face, and she climbs back over the side of the car and slides back into her seat. Not long afterward, about 3 to 5 ride mechanics/attendants/what have you storm into the auditorium with a mix of very paniced, flustered and worried looks on their faces, and climb up to her ride vehicle to have words with her... they then lowered her car down at that point, in order to safely unload her and her party, and escort them out.

So... In short, this lady forced her way out from under her lapbar, climbed out over the side of a MOVING ride vehicle, which was at the time raised about 10 feet into the air, onto the scafolding platforms of the ride auditorium, while it was operating. HOW BIG of a moron does one have to be, to force one's way out of a ride 10 feet in the air, while it's in motion. I don't care how sick or scared you might be (neither of which she appeared to be, by the way, she looked perfectly fine) this was pure idiocy at its finest. You'd think the bar locked over her lap would have given her a bit of a clue that exiting might be a bad idea... I'm still not sure how she managed to get out from under it, but she was fairly thin, so I imagine it was a bit loose and she just slid her way out.

So anyway, one of the employees, looking slightly relieved that no one was hurt, but still flustered by the situation, then addressed all of us remaining folk... he didn't specifically point the finger at her (legal reasons and all I imagine) but pointed out that it's fairly obvious that many of us can put together what happened... and for obvious reasons, the ride's emergency shut down panic button was triggered. This brought the ride's machinations to a complete panic stop, and they'll take 15-30 minutes to get up and running again... we can stay in our seats and ride again if we'd like, or we can leave as soon as they get the remaining cars lowered down safely...

He asks if we have any questions... I'm a nosey smartass so I ask, "What's gonna happen to her?" He says he can't say specifically, but she's been escorted off the ride and most likely soon out of the park. They then in a typical themepark fashion, proceed to keep us pre-occupied with funny conversation as we get lowered back down one car at a time.

Me and most of my family/friends then proceeded to wait it out, because this was our last friggin ride on Back to the Future after all, and we only got to see half the ride. (Plus it was the end of the day, so it's not like we had anywhere to go afterward but the hotel.) So with a minor wait, not only was it our last ride on Back to the Future, but it was the most memorable one we ever had.

I'm sorry I don't have a video for ya'll (I was on a ride at the time after all) but I assure this was a 100% true story... a story about a lady who up until I saw the video of that kid today, I thought was the stupidest person I'd ever seen at Universal Studios... now it's a bit of a toss up. lol

That kind of thing happened during my tenure at BTTF. I was in the opposite tower and the operator on the other side radios to me & to the duty lead that she may have a "jumper". A few seconds later she says "s/he's (I dont remember if it was a guy or girl) out, I'm hitting E-stop!"

Needless to say there was a lot of running around on the levels, relocating guests, while the jumper was caught and escorted out of the ride/park.

When you actually see how BIG the BTTF dome is, you realize how SCARY and essentially DANGEROUS it is to be out there between ride vehicles. One false move and you can easily fall 10+ feet (depending on what level you're at) down to the concrete floor.

Yes, it is extreme stupidity. I just don't know what is going through their heads while they are doing it. Think they're cool? I don't know. But luckily they do get a counseling about it. Can you believe that? 20+ year old attraction Leads having to counsel a 40+ year old man or woman that getting out of a moving ride vehicle is unsafe.

Althought I've never personally seen a jumper, I've heard from various sources that they happen a lot.

Ripsaw Falls obviously gets jumpers.
Popeye and Bluto's gets them too.
River Adventure as well.
Cat in the Hat gets them a lot.
Mummy even has them occasionally.
I've also heard of people in the front row of Twister climbing over the railing to get in the scene, causing the attendants to Estop the show.
MIB has them.
BTTF had them, and I'm sure Simpsons is going to have them (if it's the same car design, but I don't know.)
Jimmy Nuetron has them too.

That's why i like working rides with restraints. Although, sometimes even a restraint doesn't help. It's like they think that bar that goes across their lap, and is locked, doesn't apply to them, and should be able to leave whenever they want.
