Go ahead and laugh... I was in CT yesterday and today and wanted to fill up before heading home to NJ.

I didn't even stop to think that I would have to pump it myself. i pulled into the station and saw the sign that said pay for cash before pumping and all of a sudden i realized I was not in Jersey!!
I just did it, I read the instructions and did it myself!!

For all you Jersey girls.... it was not a big deal, i didn't spill any gas, didn't smell like gas, nothing...it was easy

BUT...that being said I still don't want it here in NJ!! I really didn't see it being so much faster then having the guy do it for me!!

I have never ever had to pump my own gas. I wouldn't even know how to do it!

:thumbsup2

You know there will be tons of people with a lot to say about this, on both sides.

This is funny!! I am just the opposite of you...this CT girl always makes sure to stop in NJ when driving through, just so I DON'T have to pump it myself!! Pumping your own gas isn't hard at all...and is much more pleasant to do in the summer rather then winter. It sucks to have to do it in the cold! Congrats on your first pumping gas experience!!

:cool1::cool1::yay::yay:

This TEXAS girl had no idea grownups didn't know how to pump gas. Is this a regional thing or only in NJ?

Do they have the card swiper also at the pump or do the attendants have to go into the station to run your card through?

As a New Yorker, I always found the "Jersey Girls Don't Pump Gas" bumper stickers silly. NO ONE pumps their own gas in New Jersey.

So you're saying that there aren't self-serve stations in Jersey?

Wow, I've never had sometime pump my gas before. I would find that a little strange! But again, I've never lived in Jersey, so I wouldn't know.

That's my once a year luxury! No pumping gas when in Jersey! Love it! Should be a federal law!

Wow...had no idea. Why is it law? And is it more expensive because of the attendant?

Actually, New Jersey full-serve gas was always cheaper then New York self-serve gas. Not sure how it compares to the rest of the country, though. As far as law - I think it's an old law that has 'hung around' because residents prefer it that way.

Although fuel is cheaper in NJ then NY (mostly due to NY taxes), it would most likely be even cheaper if they changed the law to allow for self service.

I guess in the end its the one thing that NJ people have that gets them out from under the shadow of NY (especially NYC).

It's probably not cheaper to the business owner, unless he gets some sort of tax break. It seems strange for the state to force a business to perform a service that is not necessary to the operation of their business.

I think it's just like anything else. If you do something for people that they can do for themselves, they will never want to do it for themselves and will always feel entitled to it. But this isn't a Jersery girl's fault. There is nothing wrong with enjoying it.

Out of Nevada, California, Washington and Oregon... Oregon is typically the cheapest and we don't pump our own gas.

I've never had anyone pump gas for me before. It seems so...odd.

I'm so used to pumping my own gas, that it's annoying to me to need gas in Jersey and have to wait in the car for someone to do it for me. It's just habit to jump out and start pumping.

When we were in Philadelphia last year, I drove over to New Jersey and realized that we were low on gas. I made sure to stay close to PA so I could get back to pump my own gas! It just seems so odd to wait for someone else to do it. Just as odd as it probably is to New Jersey people to have to get out and do it themselves! ;)
