For all the Twilight haters.. IT'S A BOOK! IT'S FICTION..I am sorry but if someone is delusional enough to think its "real" they have other issues....

I don't care who Stephanie Meyer "tithes" her money to. If she wants to give it all to Santa Claus so he can take out the tooth fairy.. so be it. Its her money..

And don't even get me going on the "Stopping Gay Marriage" thing..I have no idea why it was even mentioned in this thread...

That being said, I like the books, I like the movies, I do think the CHARACTER of Edward is sexy and romantic but not because he climbs in Bella's window and watches her sleep but because of his love for Bella. He isn't like some of the one dimensional characters that are out there and he has his own conflicts. it makes the book interested and just plain FUN! and yes I am a 33 year old woman..

I enjoyed the books, but I agree that Edward in real life would be super creepy, and Bella would be pathetic and clingy. Good thing they live in a book and not out here with the rest of us!

My 11 year old son is vampire obsessed and had me read all the books to/with/for him (by for I mean when we came to a passage with too much sex talk he wanted me to read it for him and summarize) when he was 9. At first I was unsure if I wanted my 9 year old reading this series.

I realize when I went back and read that it sounded like I censored it (Oh, you don't want me to read you this part . . . )

My 9 year old boy was, well a 9 year old boy (he's now an 11 year old boy). He liked Twilight because he thinks vampires are cool but if there was a condensed version that only had the vampires and the werewolfs and the fighting and the gore, and skipped any kissing, anxiety about sex or discussion of the pros and cons of marriage he would have chosen that.

So, when I read the book to him/with him, he'd stop me and roll his eyes and tell me he was bored and I'd skip ahead, find the next place where there was some of the above, and start again.

We actually do that a fair amount. I read a lot of fantasy, things like retellings of the King Arthur myths. If I come to a section that I think he'll like I'll tell him the story up to that point, and then he'll read a few chapters. It's a great way for me to expose him to more sophisticated literature, while respecting the fact that books written for adults often move to slowly for preteens. Sometimes what I skip is sex (or in the case of Twilight, people talking about not having sex), sometimes it's long passages describing something, whatever it is, it's just parts that move to slowly to hold his interest.

I don't have any problem with Edward's stalking proclivities or the author's religion or tithing. I just found the books so horribly repetitive (how many times and how many ways do we have to hear Edward described as beautiful/heavenly/glorious?) and not very well written. I rarely have issues with anything my kids read as far as subject matter, but I would prefer they read books that contain better writing. Just my opinion.

I have to agree. I will never forget the sudden intake of breath of a theater full of moms and preteen girls the first time he took his shirt off.

I also agree about Antonio Banderas. Although I can't figure him out. He looks so good and so sexy in movies to look so. . . not on the red carpet or other functions.
