My goodness I can see why dogs aren't adopted in CA, the questionaires from the shelters and rescue places are crazy long and must be completed and approved before you can even see a dog. I don't feel like filing out a bunch of these for the fun of it. Now I remember why be bought our lab instead of going this route.

Tell me about it. The elementary school where this happened is fairly close to our house. It's not the closest elementary but I think it's within 2 miles. And just last week a woman gave birth and rather than take the baby to a firestation or hospital, she pulled a ruse to pretend her mother found the baby and called 911.

What is the world coming to?

I'm not one that normally let's a news story keep me from enjoying myself, stuff can happen anywhere so we just need to use some common sense and be aware of our surroundings.

Also the article you posted said that they should have had a police officer on the tour and should not have been out past noon. It was 5PM when they were robbed.

Yeah, and those rescue places like to play God, come into your house inspect and tuen you down. They would rather keep their pets than let you take them.

We had an awesome experience with a Walla Walla, WA shelter. They helped us get our border collie/brittany spaniel pup by phone and emails after I saw her on Petfinders and fell in love. They even kept her a month until I could fly to Portland and meet one of the volunteers halfway between Walla Walla and Portland. It was so much better than what we encountered in CA.

We had an awesome experience with a Walla Walla, WA shelter. They helped us get our border collie/brittany spaniel pup by phone and emails after I saw her on Petfinders and fell in love. They even kept her a month until I could fly to Portland and meet one of the volunteers halfway between Walla Walla and Portland. It was so much better than what we encountered in CA.

The Visalia Pet Smart was great, we found him the night before, picked him up the next day. I was flabbergasted to find out that in Long Beach they did home visits. Come to find out just about all of them are like that. The SPCA just wanted to find then homes, no judgment. That was nice.

I'm not sure I'll explain my thoughts well but all I can thunk with questionnaires is if they had pets they knew the full history of and that it had come from a good loving home where it was given up very unwillingly.
They wouldn't want it going to a bad home. I guess.
But they don't know the history of all the animals. And it won't necessarily stop the animal going back to the shelter as noone can be sure of how well an animal will fit into an environment or it's temperament in different surroundings.

My DBF listens to the Monsters in the Morning Orlando podcast (which is a live radio programme) and they did a pet adoption drive recommending pets etc. This was a good place but as far as I could tell they didn't do the long questionaires etc.

Anyway the host Russ adopted a big dog Sampson and shortly after he attacked another dog. Despite being very well looked after. This dog was just not safe around other dogs. Or children. He wasn't put down but there were select placements that the vet was left with.

My point is I see what they are trying to achieve. But people can seem anything they want and still be cruel to animals.

Sadly, I see a red cross. And I can't get to the jpg using www either.

That is a shame. The news was really depressing today. First the cruise ship. Then some kid shooting up a school. Followed by a father beating his baby to death claiming she accidentally fell. Finally a fifith grader beat another fith grader to death in front of seven other students.

Very very sad and depressing news. I really hate stories about parental abuse...they should not be parents! And also about stories where everyone just watches and no one gets involved.

PIO sounds like you're a very good gardener.

I'm the type that believes that a plant should survive by itself. Most of the plants in my garden are very hardy! They have to be. I neglect most of them.

Yes! We have the deposit check, he has the keys, and hopefully everyone is all good! We only have one apartment left to rent and that one is still being remodeled.
