Hello everyone!!!......I'm counting down the dys to BC (Will be there May 1st)!!!....cgs, how receptive were they at guest services when you called?...Were your requests on your original reservation?...Also how crowded were the parks, and the BC???...What view room did you have?...I booked for a standard, but think that I'll change to waterview (subj to availability) when I arrive

Some of my requests were on my original reservation, but I made additional requests on a fax I sent in the day before. Then I called on the day I was arriving (called from the airport before we took off) and they assigned me a room while we were on the phone. At first they found a room that satisfied some of my requests, but not all. I politely asked her to try to find one that satisfied the other requests too (and told her briefly why they were important to me). Then she tried a little harder and found one that had everything I wanted.

We booked standard view, but now that I think of it we were on the water side, near the Boardwalk, which I liked because after the kids went to bed we could sit on the patio and watch the world go by. Did we get lucky and get upgraded?

The parks were mobbed but it was Easter week. BC was crowded too but not unbearably so. The biggest problem was that many guests had the habit of going down to the pool in the morning and putting a towel or their things on a chair and then disappearing for most of the day, so you could never get a chair at the pool. I thought this was very rude and inconsiderate.

If the pool was crowded because the hotels were heavily booked, can't imagine what the BCV's opening will do to sab.

Have just come up for air ... been home for a week, but tired, exhausted and through the flu ... but being at WDW after a 6 year absence was a thrill!

Spent 10 days there (5 days at Downtown Disney area hotel) and 5 days at YC ... and next time would stay at Disney hotel in a heartbeat.

You can walk to Epcot in minutes ... in fact, ended up strolling over more than we originally planned. Fireworks from room (waterview overlooking SAB and lagoon) were great!

You can walk over to Boardwalk in the evening on a non-park night.

The boat to MGM was indeed slow (and more relaxing) but way better than the bus ride we had from our other hotel (which was still better than a bus ride from an off-site hotel).

The bus to MK was fine ... we were dropped off at park entrance, where at another hotel you're dropped off at TTC then have to take the monorail.

We took time out in the day to RnR at SAB ... it's a great watercomplex but not enough chair/lounge space and this will definitely worsen with the addition of BC Villas.

Food was expensive, but we minimized our costs by eating breakfast in hotel room (brought cereal and snacks from home and purchased fresh fruit, milk at either gift shop or food carts outside Beaches and Cream) Also brought own toaster .. DH thought I was nuts but appreciated saving $25/day on breakfast and we had PS for either lunch or dinner every day. This was great because the PARKS WERE PACKED!!! While other families were complaining about not getting in, we had no trouble with our advance PS ... even if we were late, we used our cellphone to phone ahead to say we were still coming (which they appreciated and then they won't cross you out). In fact, this benefitted us one night at Epcot ... had PS for Coral Reef Restaurant but also a Fast Pass for Test Track at the same time, so ended up at Coral Reef 40 minutes late, but called ahead ... they said as long as our name is in the system, they will seat us. So it's helpful to make those PS's ahead of time and if you're not on schedule (who can be?) , just call to let them know when you're on your way).

Anyway, we had a fabulous meal overlooking the floor to ceiling acquarium, when who should arrive in full scuba gear, but the big cheese himself .... MICKEY MOUSE!!! It was a great moment to remember (especially since I didn't bring my camera that night).

Anyways, sorry to be so long but I was in a sharing moment.
This was just the tip of the iceberg but I can't ramble on forever.

Yes, we had our ups and downs... perhaps because I spent so much time planning everything, I was uptight the first few days about not getting everything done according to the schedule. But overall, the scheduling benefitting us ... from knowing where to go ... how to do it ... and not do it ....

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR GREAT INFORMATION AND ADVICE. Without all your great input, our trip wouldn't have been half as Tiggerific!

Dreamin'Disney
thanks for the update. Hope to see a report on the resort and restaurant boards about your stay.

okay, I just got ressies at the BC July 4-13 and haven't really ever researched before reading some of this thread (very helpful) and I have some questions.
1. I am about 5'2 1/2 and am wondering the dimensions of the day bed...does it fold out?
2. How deep is the river thingy at SAB?
3. What is the "sinking sand" pool at SAB?
4. What drinks are available for the refillable mugs (lemonade, Hi-C,etc...)?
5. Is Beaches and Cream located under a wing of rooms in BC because the wing is there on the 3rd floor but not on the 1st or 2nd?
6. Are you allowed to get your room key with limited charging priviliges (ie $25 a day...)?
Thank you! I'm sure I'll be back with more questions!!!
*BETH*

Hi Beth-
We just returned from YC. The day bed does not pull out...but my daughter is about 5'3'' and slept comfortably..although she is thin (only 11 years old) and the bed is a bit narrow. The mugs are for soda, coffeee and tea...the lemonade was an issue, but they filled it after they told us they were not supposed to. The lazt river is deep...6-7 ft...sinking sand is just what it sounds like...you sink when you step in certain areas of the pool. I don't know about room locations above beaches and cream...can't help you there. Any more questions feel free to ask.

Hello!!!.....Has anyone recently returned from BC and stayed in standard room??..Just wondering about availibility of full balconies, was there alot of construction noise???....Also is it worth it to upgrade to waterview room, has anyone ever booked waterview and had a terrible view??...Only two weeks to BC, can't wait!!!

We were told by our waitress at Beaches and Cream that the mugs were for coffee, soda, ice tea and lemonade. My daughter got pink lemonade every day at Beaches and Cream with absolutely no problem. Funny that they should give you a hard time at Yacht Club.

We requested a full balcony on our reservation and then called and repeated the request on day of arrival. We got one (a patio, actually, since we were on the first floor). We heard no construction noise at all, but we had also requested a room away from the construction.

The "BC" side of the pool ranges in depth from only a few feet deep (maybe 3' - my 41" tall daughter could stand in one part) to about 5'. If you have a little one I would bring water wings.

I'm not going until November, but I'm just getting so excited. Are there sand toys available around SAB for the kids to use or should I buy some on my way from the airport to BCV. We plan on spending quite a bit of time by the pool so I don't mind buying a few.

Regarding Sand Toys

I think that you would have to bring your own toys. Hurricane Hannah's offers a few kids meals. They are served in buckets with a shovel. Those buckets are every where. We actually asked them to put the meal on a tray and forget the buckets.

We will also be there in November (9-18) staying at the Yacht Club. :bounce:
There are sand toys for sale at Stormalong Bay at the tube rental area. I believe they may even have some for sale at the YC/BC gift shops.

You will absolutely love it there!

They are building a quiet pool at BCV which is located near the entrance to BC.

Hey!!!!!

I'M SO SORRY i have been absent for soooo long, but I'm back, this time for GOOD.

OK...first of all...

...it's finally that time.

Sometime tonight, this thread and most of its replies will cease to exist to make way for

The *ALL-NEW* Yacht & Beach Club Q&A Forum.

In a word, finally.

Next...I have some news.

On August 23, 2002, I will be relocating to my new home for the next five years (yes, <i>five</i>...): Penn State University. Sorry, Notre Dame, but there's just something about the architecture department at PSU that I love. Plus, even though the school is enormous, it's like each little program exists as its own separate tiny college. My program has 80 freshmen, plus graduate students and about 25 faculty. I think it'll work out great...even greater if I get my dorm preference.

And...uh...I promise I will answer ALL your questions in a new post before I delete this forum. Then, I will start filling up the blank Y&B Q&A Forum...i figure it'll take something like three days for the initial setup, and then three months for the new Yacht Club floorplans.

Now...another thing. Some of you are bound to ask for floorplans of the Beach Club Villas. This is gonna be tough...don't expect much, BUT...if you are going to the BCV at ALL in 2002 or 2003, I have a request:

Please take a picture of the fire-exit floorplan on the back of your guest room door...email me or post here if you do, and you can send it to me. This way I can have a basic layout in my head if I don't get there anytime soon. Thanks!!!

OK...that's it for now. Later! And i mean sooner rather than later. :)

JC

Do guests at the YC need to pay for the rental of inner tubes and other float toys at SAB? If so, roughly how much?

(sorry if this question has been asked before).

Hello!!!!!......I'll be at BC in less than 2 wks, and can't wait!!!!....Anyone there or just returning recently???..Just wondering if there's construction noise?..I originally booked standard view and wanted to switch to waterview, WDTC sts no avail rooms (told my travel agent), but when I called CRO they said they had waterview available at $380 a night. I booked standard view w/discount code and am only paying $220, the waterview w/code was $280. I don't want to get stuck with a terrible parking lot view or construction view, and yet I can't see paying $400 extra dollars either. My room requests are on my reservation (full balcony, non-smoking, & away from construction), I arrive in Orlando at 10:00 am. Should I immediately contact guest services from airport or mention request upon arrival at the resort?...I hav copies of the floor plans, so I'll know what rooms I don't want. Does arriving early help my chances of getting my requests?..Also, How is check-in during the week?

I think the majority of the external construction is complete, with only the interior decorating left to do at the BCV, so you won't have a problem with noise. To be absolutely sure, call the BC & speak with the manager to see if there is any kind of residual noise that the construction workers are doing. Granted, you'll be out in the parks during the day, so that is when most of the work will take place.

Also, don't forget what JC mentioned earlier in this forum: keep the floor plans to the hotel to yourself! :)

Have a great trip!! :D :D :D :D :D

Mardoggie, are you counting the days like I am? Only 7 more months. We've got ressies at the BCV and I can't wait! Thanks for the info about the sand toys. We're renting a car and picking up groceries on the way, so I may just pick up some toys for the boys then. They'll probably be cheaper. Maybe we'll see you at SAB!
