Hello All! I'm back and ready to start this trip report. Some of this may be a repeat of my pre-trip report You've just turned 55 what are you going to do now. (link in my signature). Mostly introductions once again and then the real meat of the report will follow in later posts.

Let’s get to the details, shall we? Why yes, yes we shall!
Where: Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside resort (where we honeymooned – with Victoria in tow)
When: May 16-22
Why: To celebrate my birthday month! Yes, I said month!
Who: Peter (hubby extraordinaire) and myself

IMG_1143.JPG

So, you might be thinking "who are they?" Well, I'm Ann and I am the one who turns 55 on the 11th. My husband is Peter who is 58. We were married in 2010 on the beach, barefoot. Yep, one of my dreams that came true! Victoria is our 24 year old daughter. Others that are in our household include 2 rabbits, 2 cats, 1 sun conure and our 16 chickens outside.

Of course I started planning this trip as soon as we got back from our last trip (September 2021). I had been taking solo trips for the last 2 years in May for my birthday (Boy, having annual passes sure does make that decision easy! Maybe, too easy). On my last solo trip I felt more lonely without either Peter or Victoria and decided I just didn’t want to do a solo trip this time around. I wanted really to bring Victoria, but she now has her own life (ie moved out, job, etc) and it isn’t as easy for her to pick up and take off. I, on the other hand, have been working for State government for over 20 years, so I have quite a bit of vacation time accumulated and I can just take off. As much as I sometimes get upset with Victoria, she is my ride buddy and I love her with all my heart. Peter doesn’t go on the more exciting rides such as Expedition Everest, Rock n Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror etc. Usually, when it is just Peter and I, I don’t ride those particular rides. It’s ok. I know I’ll always be going back! Being Disney Vacation Club members ensures that we will be going back year after year! Peter asked me if I was going to go alone this time and I said I would unless he could get the time off. Now he’s a Manager at Sam’s Club for about 2 or 3 years now and he doesn’t have the vacation time accumulated as I do. He has something called PTO and that seems to be a whole different animal than my sick/vacation/personal days off. I believe 2 of the days we will be in Disney will be unpaid for him and he still has to plan for our anniversary trip in September. So now with him being able to have the time off, the trip turned into a Peter and I trip! That’s cool! I love my hubby --- probably a good thing! 😍

Victoria

Now I did mention that Victoria had moved out right? Yeah, well she is back in our household. Things didn’t work out for her and her girlfriend, so she’s back. We were without her for over 6 months and were getting used to being “empty-nesters”. Fortunately for her, she is able to work remotely so she has her little “office” set up in her room. Her mama will always be here for her, that’s for sure. Needless to say, this whole adventure of hers has cost me a lot of money (yes, I paid ½ of her security deposit on their apartment and helped her out financially. Oh, there’s also a little issue with her switching to her own phone plan which ended up costing me almost $800 for cancelling a portion of my contract.😡 So, that means a huge cut into the “Disney Money” but I love her and again, will always be there to help her out. Now I’m scrambling to try to save up all the money we need. Yes, we could probably eat cheaper than what we do, but c’mon……It’s Disney!!! My credit card enjoyed being at a zero balance, but it is time to use her again. HeeHee!!

I’m still working for State government as I said, but am no longer a Human Services agent. I had some health issues and wanted to step back and concentrate on getting well and that job was sucking the life right out of me. Health issues? Yeah, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, had surgery and radiation. That was not a fun time, let me tell you, but I didn’t take much time off at all during the whole ordeal. I did, however, accept a position which is 5 pay grades below what I was earning as an Agent. Basically it means I lost $5 per hour, but I needed less stress. This past October I had a hysterectomy and in November I had surgery to remove a large kidney stone. The surgery is called percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Big word which means they cut through my back to get to the stone. So, taking the lower paying job was meant to be in the long run. Now, however, I am feeling stronger and am interviewing with State government for a higher paying job. Wish me luck. I’m also still working at Target 🎯 part-time as a fulfillment specialist which means I pick the online orders for either store pick up or shipping. Yes, I get paid to shop. Ok, well I can keep anything I pick, but at least I’m not real-shopping with my real-money! Win-win right there! The pay I earn from Target is supposed to be Disney money, but it seems like something is ALWAYS coming up to prevent me from saving it. $15 per hour for 15 hours per week is not a whole lot of money, but it helps. I try to take on extra shift when I can but this old girl is TIRED!!! It’s a lot of walking as you can imagine --- I’ve fit bitted it to be about 2.5 miles per 4 hour shift. No one better tell me I’m not getting my steps in! I just figure it’s good Disney practice as they say a typical Disney Day is walking 13 miles!

We are flying out of Portland via Southwest. Yes, I did book the tickets as soon as they came out. (Website stalker, what can I say). The tickets are always so much cheaper when they first get released. I bought the tickets when they were just about $200 per person round trip. If I were to book them now it would be $500pp! I just checked. Unbelievable!

Following along. Can’t wait to read the report.

BTW, I notice you live in Augusta. My mother grew up in Waterville and her parents (my grandparents) are now 91 & 96 years old living on China Lake right outside of Augusta.

Following along. Can’t wait to read the report.

BTW, I notice you live in Augusta. My mother grew up in Waterville and her parents (my grandparents) are now 91 & 96 years old living on China Lake right outside of Augusta.
Also following, I am new to DVC and the boards, but have been visiting Disney for 30+ years. I can’t wait to hear about your trip. Happy Birthday!

Great score the Airline tickets. The prices today are ridiculous even if you want to use miles. We fly from Madison, WI. I was able to get two round trip tickets for this Oct. to MCO for 59,000 miles and $22.40. Now they want more cash and 80,000 miles. I think you can fly to Europe cheaper than that now.

Following! Looking forward to read your trip report!
Hi Princess Belle! Welcome. I'm glad to have you along!

Yep, I was born and bred right here in Augusta and lived for a short time in Waterville. Yes, I know where China Lake is and that's a gorgeous area. Glad to have you here Boston!

Oh hi kkediana and welcome! It does take a bit to learn all the ins and outs of the boards. Actually now that I'm back, I have to relearn some things. You'll get it! no worries!
I’m still working on how to reply without repeating all posts lol!
:thumbsup2
Joining in, I travel with my daughter all the time!

Hi Hubie and welcome. OMG!! The prices of everything are out of this world. I'm glad I scored the tickets when I did for this September's trip we will be taking. It's unbelievable!

Oh boy oh boy! What a miserable start!! About two weeks ago they changed our flights but the time was relatively the same so it was all good. Last night I got a text message at 6:08pm stating my flight on the 16th was cancelled and they rebooked us for May 19th!!! OH HELL NO!!!!! So I looked online and saw a flight at 5:50. Ok. I can do that. I booked it. Car was packed and we were ready to go first thing in the morning. Set my alarm for 2AM and we left the house at 3am. Drove to PWM only to find out that all flights were canceled in the morning! And to add the cherry on the top——the flight at 5:50 was the EVENING!!!! PM!!! Ugh!!!

1653864090762.png

It turned out to be good for us as some people can’t get out until tomorrow. So we drove back home, slept, ate and left the house at 3PM this time. Ugh! Ok so here we are all checked in and sitting at the gate when the announcement is made which states “anyone traveling to Orlando please come to the podium”. That is NEVER a good thing! So since the flight at 5:50pm is going to be late and we wouldn’t make the connection to Orlando, we have been booked on the 9:30 flight from BWI to Orlando. What does this all mean? Well #1 we missed our dining reservation at the Boathouse. #2 since we won’t be getting into Orlando until after midnight, we don’t have transportation from the airport to the resort (any Ubers at midnight??) #3 I LOST MY CHANCE TO PREVIEW GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY COASTER!!!!!! And we don’t even know if we really are getting out of here tonight??!!!! SCREAMING 😱
1653864146619.png

After waiting in the airport in Portland until 7pm (for a 1:45pm flight) they announced that anyone who is travelling to Orlando to please come up to the desk. Oh, Lord....that is never good! So THAT flight was cancelled as well! Knowing we were supposed to check in that day (Monday) I called Disney to ask what can be done. Are they going to hold our ressie until we get there? Are they going to charge us for missing chek-in and treat it like a change in the ressie. I read the policy and it does say they can charge a $200 change fee. Ugh! I was on the phone for a LONG time! I was first told that if I didn't check-in by 11am on Tuesday, they would cancel our reservation. AND they were not going to refund the money! WHAT!!! That doesn't even make sense! I was so close to cancelling the whole thing when my husband took the phone from me. After many more minutes, Peter was finally able to get them to guarantee the reservation until we get there. So since we weren't flying out until Tuesday, Peter and I decided to go back home and sleep in our own bed. Come Tuesday, we headed out to the airport for the 3:55pm flight. So far, so good. By the time we made it to BWI, we had to run to make the Orlando flight. Ugh!

We arrived in Orlando and took the Sunshine Flyer to the resort.

1653863822512.pngWe were on the butterfly coach. I love how they pretend their buses are trains. It's so cute. The "conductor" was awesome.
1653863992470.png

We FINALLY made it to Riverside around 8:30pm. This is so NOT how I wanted to have the whole trip to start. It's like we missed 2 days! We registered with a wonderful cast member named Kelly who was an angel. As you can imagine I was not in the best of moods as I was tired and irritated. She made everything wonderful. We were placed in preferred building 15 on the first floor. It is a perfect location! That's all for tonight!

Oh my gosh! That is the most stressful start to a trip ever!

Oh my! I feel so stressed just reading this. Jetblue has already messed with my flights and I am so afraid, we are going to be in the same position. I have already shuffled things, but since we are splitting time between disney and universal we can't really afford any more airline changes with park ressies and stuff. Hoping things start looking up in your trip soon.

So glad you finally made it to Disney. Seemed touch and go for awhile. Hope your trip got better for you! Waiting to find out.

I would have lost it at Southwest.
As a former phone operator, I would have been apologizing to that poor CM that eventually picked up for any thing I would say that has nothing to do with them.

I can’t wait to hear more about the trip (also random that purple top with the flowers? I think I have the same one lol)

Hey there! Fellow PWM flier here (and my DH has worked for DHHS for 25+ years in the midcoast) Hoping things got turned around for the better for you folks!! Our upcoming August direct flights to MCO were altogether canceled by Frontier a week after I booked them. That was a new one for us (we've always been lucky with them before, knock on wood) so now we're booked on American with a connecting flight. Good times. Wishing you the best and enjoying your report despite that wretched start!

Now, where were we…..ah yes, we found our room 1515 in Building 15 in the Alligator Bayou. We booked a King room which could be anywhere in the resort so we were lucky to get a preferred building close to the food court.

I did put that request in, but you know how it is with requests – they are not guaranteed. So, we unpacked our bags, decided who has what side of the bed, etc. We then went to the food court for a late supper. By now, as you can imagine, I was irritated, grumpy and tired. :sad2: There was a nice pot roast dinner at one of the windows which sounded excellent to me so I got into that line. Apparently this was the slowest line there. The meat carver (or whatever he is called) took his job quite seriously and was very precise on his carving which slowed down the process tremendously. That wouldn’t have bothered me so much but I was out back of a lady who kept yelling to her people yards away and basically yelling in my ear! :mic: Oh, and did I mention she was also coughing and had no idea what social distancing was? Yeah, not cool! After about 6 minutes or so I couldn’t take it anymore and switched lines to go get the pasta like Peter was doing. Not really what I wanted, but oh well. My nerves were just so fried at this point. The pasta was good, as always, but not really what I wanted. We went to the line to pay and Cast member Tom welcomed me as “princess” (I LOVE THAT!!). He asked me how our day was and I laid out the whole story (poor man – but he asked!) he knew I had enough for today and actually gave us our refillable mugs for free! A $19.99 value per mug! 1654644591610.jpeg

I was so touched I wanted to cry. He didn’t have to do that! After eating, (and filling up our mugs) we went back to the room and called it a night. I did have an Instacart order to pick up at Bell Services, but it was way too late and I was just way too tired to deal with that. It can wait until the morning.:earboy2::earboy2::earboy2:

Wednesday AM

I made sure to hang up my “unofficial” pin trading board on our door this morning. I was excited to see what would be traded. Some people on the Disboards suggested it may get stolen, but if it does, it does. I trust people.

1654644806968.jpeg

This was our Hollywood Studios Day and I was excited! This is my favorite park! The plan was to get up at 6am (on my vacation --- really??!!) and try to be on the bus to be at HS during Early Admission for Resort Guests. This is all fine and good, but even though there was early entry, the buses weren’t frequent. We were at the bus stop by 7:30am but the bus didn’t come until 7:58am. I was surprised it didn’t come before that, but oh well. It’s my vacation and I’m going to enjoy what’s left.

1654644912982.jpeg

We did get to HS and were able to enter the park prior to regular guests, so it was still a good thing. My goal was to be in the Rise of the Resistance line as soon as possible. Success! We got to ride it! Yay! This wasn’t our first time, but boy I get excited every time I ride it. I just love, love, love Kylo Ren!

1654645063576.jpeg
After that we did Muppetvision 3D. It’s so cute and I just love Statler & Waldorf. Of course, I say their lines along with them much to the dismay of Peter. Nah, he’s good with it. I can’t help it if I know the lines by heart. "I wish they'd move it to Pittsburg!!"

1654645172802.jpeg

Wait times --- OMG!! Now usually wait times in May are great --- the longest would be 45minutes at most. Yeah, not so much this time around. Although having Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Train at only 35 minutes is a good time. I’ll just say it’s a good thing I didn’t want to ride the headliners!

1654645292222.png

I tend not to ride everything when I go with Peter as he gets motion sickness and doesn’t enjoy that. (Obviously!) So, I don’t ride RnR, ToT, Star Tours or Slinky Dog when I’m with him. I don’t know how this will work in the future. I’ll want to ride these rides some time. Maybe another solo trip is in order! We did the usual Beauty and the Beast stage show and Frozen Ever After show.

We did a lot of walking around and stopping to people watch. I was in pain due to my lower back (Side note – I did have a back xray done this last Friday to see what’s going on. I haven’t heard anything from the doctor yet). It’s very discouraging to be in pain in Disney. Now I know I’m old and it could be arthritis sneaking up on me, but geez! I just hope they find something and are able to fix it!

We ate an early dinner (5pm) at Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood & Vine. It’s cute. It’s still a character dinner and now finally the characters can get close to you again! The meal was good, although the menu is somewhat limited.

We ate an early dinner (5pm) at Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood & Vine. It’s cute. It’s still a character dinner and now finally the characters can get close to you again! The meal was good, although the menu is somewhat limited
. Has anyone noticed this? That the choices of meals aren’t as plentiful as they used to be? We used to love Sci Fi diner, but there’s no longer strip steak on the menu and there is nothing that Peter really likes on it either. Too bad as we loved the atmosphere. I did end up getting a little birthday cupcake after the dinner, so that was cute and it was good! After this, we headed back to the resort. As I mentioned, I was in a great deal of pain and we wanted to get back to the resort prior to the thunderstorms starting. Yes, typical Florida, there were storms every evening. Due to this, we never made it to the hot tub or pool. Very sad. I did have some new pins show up on my board, so that was cool!

Wow! I think I would have lost it at the airport and on the phone with Disney.
Yeah, I just couldn't believe that they were going to cancel the reservation....I mean really??!!!
Oh my gosh! That is the most stressful start to a trip ever!
Welcome! I have NEVER had an experience such as this one! And I've made several trips!!
Oh Kimmy isn't it awful how the airlines have us at their mercy! I just hate that we missed our Epcot day. Good thing we have another trip planned. Can you imagine if this happened to a family that has this one and only trip planned??
Wow! I hope the adventures get better.
Thanks for coming along on my trip report! I can honestly say that the days we were in Disney were good!
So glad you finally made it to Disney. Seemed touch and go for awhile. Hope your trip got better for you! Waiting to find out.
Yep, things did get better! How can a person be upset in Disney, right?! I was with my husband after all and that's the most important thing! I'm glad you are here reading along!
popcorn:: Hopefully this was your only setback for the rest of the trip!
You'll just have to read on to see! :thumbsup2
I would have lost it at Southwest.
As a former phone operator, I would have been apologizing to that poor CM that eventually picked up for any thing I would say that has nothing to do with them.

I can’t wait to hear more about the trip (also random that purple top with the flowers? I think I have the same one lol)
Oh believe me, I didn't go off on that cm. My daughter works for Spectrum Mobile call center, so I'm well aware those cm's do as much as they can. I bought that shirt at Torrid which is where larger girls like myself shop!
Hey fellow Mainer! Let's just say your hubby must be a very laid back and tolerant person to work in DHHS for 25 years!! Although, I really did enjoy my time there. Oh, I hope there are no more changes with your flights! I've flown Frontier once and it was ok, but that's my greatest fear --- the cancellation of flights. I figure I'm a pro at that now, right!!
