has any one ever heard of an outside rental company delivering to a park? do you think disney will try to have extras on hand to handle the week after christmas way larger crowd and possibly greater demand?
secondly, i was reading on the posts that some people get mad if a
scooter has to be loaded onto a bus. why? does it take that long? just want to know what to expect. forewarned is forearmed, ready to gracefully handle possibe impatience.
Totally agree on this! Definitely rent from offsite!
It can take a bit of time to load, honestly - depends on how good the driver is. Personally - I have been on all sides of this situation -
When I was IN and
ECV, I made sure I had practiced how to drive it well before I even tried to board a bus. And I try to be ready when they let down the lift or ramp to get right on, so that people are not waiting longer than they have to. And then I try to not rush too much, but definitely try to get loaded as safely and quickly as possible. People waiting really do appreciate this.
I have also been WITH someone in a power wheelchair and we had to teach her to be ready. At first, she sorta thought this was all so fun and was sorta slow when getting on the bus - and that really does irritate a whole group of people that are tired and want to get back to the resort. We also went ahead and put brightly colored tape on the places on her chair where they can safely attach the hooks for the tie downs - this helps the bus driver to be quicker and you don't have to stop and tell him where to put the hooks.
And I have been waiting in the line while other wheelchairs/ECV's are loading. I am one of the ones that "gets it" so it never irritates me that someone is using an ECV - and I know there are dozens of unseen reasons why someone would need them. But I do get irritated if they take a long time to load because they are not ready or are making small talk with the bus driver that is delaying the bus.
Remember, too, that the ECV unloads LAST - so all of those people will be well on their way by the time you get where you are going.
Anyone that thinks people rent an ECV for fun just have never tried to use one or figured out how long it takes to get anywhere. It will take longer to load and unload - but I would definitely rent one, in advance, for Christmas week.
You guys will have a great time and the person needing the ECV will have a MUCH better trip than if they tried to walk in the parks.
