We were booked at the Yacht Club for seven nights (Dec 26-Jan) with seven day hopper passes amd the dining plan. I just extended my trip by four nights, increased our passes and got free dining so my total cost only rose by $1400. Our cost per day dropped from $1,150 to $869. This is for a family of five. I know it is still a lot of money, but still.

I thought the cost for additional days of passes is minimal as you go above a certain number of days. I forget the exact figures right now. Could that minimal increase for the additional pass days be the source of the decrease in the average cost per day? Do they break out the cost by room, passes, etc?

The decrease in the charge for the DDP is a huge difference, especially for 5 people. To go from 7 to 10 days on park tickets is not a big price difference.
Have a great trip.

so, you're paying 6083. for 7 nights vacation based on what you said. Be prepared to spend atleast another 1000. on the incidentals...tips, etc etc

Hope your vacation lives up to the cost...cause that is one expensive week vacation......Thankfully the cost does not seem to be a factor for you..you are one of the lucky few....
As a disney addicted gal myself, I get it...but every once in a while....it does make me stop and think really hard about that chunk of change.. :rotfl2:

Enjoy!!:wizard:

That's a good price for a family of five at the Yacht Club. Free dining will save a lot. The tips will add up with 5, we usually allow $400 for tips for the 3 of us (including room tips).

Your per day trip cost decreased because I'm guessing you added those 4 days to the end of the trip... during the lowest priced season of the year for hotel rooms in January. Compared to the price you are paying for Yacht Club rooms rack rate Christmas week, you are paying almost half the price for those rooms for the last 4 nights.

Honestly, if you can still get a good room only discount, you might find it an even better deal than free dining, even if you pay for the dining plan. When I ran numbers for Yacht Club and Grand Floridian in January, it was a better deal to take the room discount and then add the dining plan and pay for it. Doesn't hurt to play with Disney's website just to see...

I agree with the previous poster. You need to run the numbers adding room only rates ( with room only discount), cost of dining plan and tickets vs the cost of the package with "free" dining. In the deluxe category it usually comes out better to take the room only discount. Values get the best bang for the buck on free dining. The Moderates come in next for a cost savings but Deluxes rarely come out ahead. When you take free dining you must pay rack rate for the room. That is the kicker. Also, you might want to see what the annual pass discount is for that time and it might be the best discount of all for the room. Only one person in your party has to have the pass to get the discount. So, make three columns - first column "room only" - total up cost of room with room only discount, cost of dining plan, cost of tickets. Column 2 - total up room cost with annual pass discount applied, cost of tickets with one being an annual pass, and dining plan. Column 3 - price disney gave you for this latest change. See which one is the best and go with that.... Another tip if you decide to go with room only discount, put the amount you would spend for the dining plan on a prepaid Visa card. Use that card to pay for your meals so what ever money is leftover after your trip is yours and not lost. It is really hard to break even with the dining plan as you usually have to order the most expensive item on the menu to do so and if decide to skip a meal one day or not use all your snack credits, you lose money there as well... Just something to think about.

Did you just make this change and did you ask for free dining since you changed the check-in date to the 22nd or did they offer it to you? I'm just curious since the free dining promotion has ended (unless you got a PIN code). :cool1: for big savings though, especially since there isn't a room-only discount during your stay.

OP said she has a family of 5. As a family of 6 I can say that this is pretty standard for a 7 day vacation - even not traveling during peak times. For a family 5 during a holiday week I think its a great deal!

I think it's a great price with dining, at a deluxe for a family of 5 during the holidays! Have a wonderful time!pixiedust:
Try a cruise for the same size family over a holiday and that price doubles.
