This forum

I frequent a few boards quite a bit. I think what happens is the folks that go there a lot actually develope friendships, even though most have never met in person. That frienship comes though in their posts to each other and the way they interact. To a causal user or someone new, I could see how it could be concidered cliquish, but really it is just like anywhere, the "new guy" must sort of prove themselves to the group to gain acceptance.

All in all, this is without a doubt the friendliest site I participate in, even the disagreements are dealt with quickly and nicely.

Also the thing that impresses me about this site as a photo site, is no one really acts or feels superior to others, some are much better photographers, some have much better equipment. But advise and critisism is handed out even handedly with little to no adgendas being demonstrated.

I think this is true with all relationships. A quick related story: We've been on a couple of DCL cruises and have joined in on the threads on a particular trip. One of the threads is STILL going even after a year later...... :woohoo: You develop the basis for a friendship with common experiences. Some of these 'relationships' continue still. I'm meeting a couple and another diver in Key West for a live aboard trip later this summer. Good stuff!!

We were having great conversations and every now and then, a new poster would come in and say hello. They were always greeted and enticed to stay and post, but some folks are just a little more reserved when it comes down to it.

So, if you haven't posted on this great site, PLEASE do so!! Show the group your photos and enjoy the "love"!!!

and like Thumper would say: "If you can't say something Nice, don't say nothin" :rotfl2:

That is kind of sad. We should form an alliance and follow each other around and post to different boards then everyone will wonder who those two yahoos are and why are THEY having all the fun. Wow "form an alliance" that sounds so Survivor-ish.

I would but I shoot Canon's, and well, it'd be embarassing to be seen with you :lmao:

I still wonder why I have a Canon when my two photog friends both shoot the D200. I could be borrowing equipment!!! :confused3

Couldn't be that you're just "stubborn"????? :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

I know, "takes one to know one"........

Well, that's because you are right and they are wrong!

I know you're right, because I shoot Canon too, and I'm never wrong! (unless you're talking to my wife or kids:confused3 but everyone is entitled to an opinion)

On a more serious note, it is clear that this Board is very helpful overall, I know my questions generally get answered (and I have asked a few), and I have learned a lot from other people's pictures and posts (about histograms, composition, "sunny 16", Depth of Field, to name a few). So how about a big :grouphug: for the DIS Photography Board (unless you're shooting Nikon or Pentax, then go find your own party :snooty:)

Dont forget olympus, I aint hugging no four thirds shooter...;)

Yeah I get that from my wife too and she doesn't even own a Canon. Trina has threatened to get a cannon if I bring home one more item from the Diamondbacks team shop but I don't think she plans on taking pictures with that.

Jeff

Don't worry, we'll let them THINK they are part of the party, and then we have someone to send on a beer run...:rolleyes1

have someone to send on a beer run...... BRILLIANT!!!

So it is settled then.

Olympus users run and get us beer :drinking1

Nikon and Pentax users ATTEMPT to get people to come to the darkside :teacher:

Canon users entertain the newbies with the aforementioned beer and educate them on why Canon is the best choice and why they MUST HAVE the new Mark III and appropriate "L" glass to go along with it, which, of course, is to make everyone (including fellow Canon shooters) jealous :thumbsup2

Now I realize that some of you may be :scared1: right now, maybe a little :headache: but it's all out of  for our fellow photogs :)

Oh, should we even mention the Sony guys? Or would that just make it a bit :crowded:

Oh, all the p&s users can :worship: the dslr users ;)

This thread has inspired me to post about my upcoming trip to WDW. This is going to be one of those once in a lifetime trips and I am going to be spending a ton of money, so everyone else just watch out b/c it is going to be My World instead of Disney World while I am there. I figure that for this caliber of a trip, I need to have the very best camera equipment known to man. What I want just does not exist, so I am going to have to do a little re-engineering before my trip.

I am going to start with the best DSLR camera body ever created, the original Canon Rebel. Now, I am not very happy with the firmware, so I am going to hack it and load the firmware from my old Olympus D-460, with RAW added. I know that I am only going to have a little over 1MP, but after I use Irfanview to resample the size up to 40MP, you will understand why I did it this way. Then I am going to re-engineer the camera body to a Nikon mount(no need to explain why here) and then do the same to a Pentax kit lens. We all know that lens is the greatest ever made by any brand. It just knocks the socks off Canon L glass. You might ask about an external flash. I am going outside the box here and will be remote triggering a couple two million candle power spotlights from Walmart. Can I get an oh yeah baby!!!

You might ask why I am going through all this trouble? Well, I want to capture every precious moment of when we are pool hopping all over the resorts (except CSR b/c it is just horrible). I also want to make sure I get plenty of shots of my beautiful DDs at every refillable drink station on property with their 7-eleven refillable mugs while wearing their Disney Crocs and custom Tees we had screen printed. BTW… we painted the Crocs lime green baby!!!

Then we will head to the parks (Send me a PM if you want my inside tip on how to park at CR for free to go to the MK). I just cannot wait to use my new setup to capture the expressions on everyone’s faces as we push our way to the front of every line by saying that we had to step out of line for DD(6) to go potty. It is simply priceless. When that does not work, I will use the Fast Passes that I bought on Ebay. I am going to get the best parade spot around by waiting for it to start and then using our stroller to push my way to the front. I am spending more than anyone else, so I deserve it.

Chef Mickey’s is going to be great after I let the server think he is going to get a big tip. He will be sure to keep the characters coming over to us more than anyone else. As for the real tip, it is just a buffet meal, so they do not deserve one.

We are staying at the GF concierge level so we can be sure to stay away from all the commoners that frequent Disney resorts. My only worry is that Disney is going to try to cheat me out of my AP, FL resident, and AAA room discounts b/c I am on the free dining plan. I do have one question about something that has me concerned. Do you think we will have to worry about the Brazilian tour groups, Pop Warner kids, or Gay Days in late August?

When we get home, I am going to have thousands of RAW files to post process, but I hacked ACR and made a new default setting so that it auto corrects everything perfectly. Oh and BTW… I am so glad that I will be shooting RAW because JPG is just worthless. To top it all off, I made another hack to ACR that makes the EXIF show that I was using a Hasselblad. After the conversion from RAW to 16-bit TIFF I use my own custom sharpening script from within MS Paint that always works perfectly, I re-sample it to 40MP in Irfanview, and then save the image off as a PNG file (not JPG for obvious reasons).

These are going to be the best pictures ever!!! I cannot wait to start selling my prints at the local flea market!!!

Yeah, but are you going to use a UV filter or not? What's it going to be, horribly disfigured pictures because you let your lens get scratched or horribly disfigured pictures because you had a UV filter on? Think carefully, because if you answer wrong you are a pathetic, ignorant loser.

I am late chiming in here - but I totally agree that this is an amazing forum.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I have learned and I hope improved in just a few months.

I have never once felt stupid or inadequate for asking a question.

When I have asked for and been given advice - I never once felt as if someone were being snarky - but instead honestly trying to help.

The people here have made me love this hobby even more than I thought I would.:goodvibes

So thanks to ALL OF YOU who have helped me and encouraged me.

The folks here are terrific. :thumbsup2

Wait a minute, that sounds suspiciously like what I did on MY last trip! Did you just cut and paste my trip report!?!

BTW - I find that upsampling from 1 mp to 40 mp allows greater range when I use my 10 bracketed shots to create HDR images of all my pics, don't you ;)

Just 10 bracketed shots for a HDR??? Slacker! You need to get a megaphone out and tell everyone to stop moving while you take about 20-30 shots. :rotfl:

Kevin

I actually did my first "pre-planned" HDR shot the other day, I actually took 18 exposures. So shoot me! :lmao:

I actually have been thinking that it'd be fun to drag a view camera (ie, large format, complete with cloth over the photographer) to WDW some day... but somehow I suspect that I'll never do that, as I'd have to actually get one and I'm too cheap to get one, unless I saw one really cheap some day. Oh well... maybe after I hit it rich and buy myself an old steam-powered car. :)

And I don't drink (except the occasional fruity girl drink), so does that mean that I don't have to be seen with 4/3 shooters at all? :cheer2: party:

Ahh, you Canon guys are just jealous as the Pentax shooters get the pretty women... :love1:

You forgot that you need to rent yourself a scooter so that you can be the last person to get to the bus, but be the first person on every time. Then of course once on the bus, get off your scooter and sit in a seat!!!

Then of course when you take your pictures of indoor rides, you'll use your flash to make sure it is properly exposed and then check on the big 3" lcd after each shot.

Then for them fireworks, get a spot between the Walt/Mickey statue and the Castle and setup your tripod. Make it stands real high so that you can see it as your standing up!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :happytv: :rotfl:   :yay: :woohoo:  :cool1:

Oh, should we even mention the Sony guys? Or would that just make it a bit :crowded:

No the Sony folks can come, but they must bring the food!!

Oh and they have to clean up afterwards too. ::yes:: :thumbsup2

Don't forget to use a laser point on all the dark rides when you're not taking flash shots. If you have any questions about the best camera settings to use while at a show or on a ride, call us on your cell phone. Talk REALLY LOUD so we can hear you over the show.

Another really fun activity is to see how long you can block a sidewalk while trying to get a picture. We shutdown Adventureland for 20 minutes once trying to get a shot under the entrance sign. I was trying to do an HDR shot but I couldn't get impatient crowd to stand still.

Another important thing to do is avoid the smoking areas. You paid your admission, smoke wherever you want.
