The morning of 09/11/2001 I logged onto the DIS for my usual morning check in, instead I found a community already sharing a horror. As I watched the events unfold on the TV it was the DIS that I turned to for support. The news websites were overloaded but the DIS provided updates when I couldn't be at a TV. Today I think it's important to go back and remember for all of us. In the archives which are now available thanks to Alex we can take another look at that day. I've included only a few links. The first is about the same as any day here, how quickly things changed. Going backward through the pages you can find the sorrow but also the overwhelming support we all found in this community.

A day like any other

I remember checking the DIS just prior to heading into a 9AM meeting. I saw olena's post about a plane hitting the WTC. I checked cnn.com and saw the first photograph posted along with the "breaking news" banner. That was the last information that I could get from the news websites. It was the DIS that kept me (and the rest of my co-workers) informed of what was happening on the east coast.

We are truly a community. Thanks for the reminder janette.

I just went back and read through my thread that day. It was like reliving it all over again.....:(

When I posted that, I had just heard that a small private plane had just hit the WTC. I was listening to the morning news. I posted a quick thread and went to turn on CNN. Then the horror really started settling in....:( It was like a scary movie with a worsening plot.

wow olena... that thread made me cry, I relive the whole terror and sadness of it everytime I reread things like that... but its important that we remember.

As I read throgh just a portion of the thread about DIS friends who were effected, and still are, I think we all need to think about our family, the DIS, tomorrow......

I can say, without a doubt (a have many times) that this community was my sanity during that horrible time. I will NEVER be able to repay the members of the DIS CB of their support and understanding....to this day.

A sad day in the long history of our country, a very meaningful day in the short hstory of this little web site on the Net. Things like this are what make the DIS what it is to me, F A M I L Y. We really came together that day and for days afterward, helping, informing, consoling. A great place the DIS is. A sad day of remembrance. Thanks, Janette, for pulling those time frames from the archive.

I have read a couple of things and have ended up crying off and on for the past 2 hours, it feels just like yesterday...

Thankyou for posting this Janette.

I was starting my new security position at work, and the day the planes hit, my job changed tremendously. Overnight, new things became important, much less emphasis put on protecting the stores product and much MORE emphasis on protecting and ensuring the safety of customers and employees.

I was a very weird day...a day where business came to a halt even in my small community.

What a terrible day for humanity.

Thank you for sharing this with us again. This truly was a sad day in the world, one we will never forget. The tears are flowing today, just as much as they were two years ago.

I'm with LIDisneyFan -- the support that was offered here was an amazing thing to witness. I know I certainly could not have gone through the worry and sadness without you all.

Whenever I think about leaving this community, I think of that day and decide I'd be crazy to go.

Lets continue to lean on one another today, and for every anniversary thereafter.

Thanks for posting. I was not on the DIS for those days immediately following the attack because I was stuck in WDW. It was nice to read that concern and support that the DISers had for each other on that day

God Bless All Today...

The DIS gave us ( Us = UK DISers, and I'm sure DISers from other countries too) an opportunity to reach out directly to you in America, and let you know how much we shared the horror with you. (Still do).

I remember feeling like the DIS was my only link to all of America during that horrific time.:(

thanks for posting this,I've been crying on and off all morning :( :(
