Third party insurance for cancelations?

Can anyone recommend a third party insurance company for a Disney Cruise to Alaska?

We’re booking suites for Alaska 2019, but one of our groups may be pregnant. I don’t mind a ship credit, but Disney insurance doesn’t cover suites. ie no refunds or credits with suite cancellations no matter how far in advance.

Has anyone successfully collected on a third party insurer? Thanks!

A lot will depend on whether the individual is pregnant (confirmed) or not at the time the insurance is purchased. Could be considered a pre-existing condition.

Generally, to get pre-existing condition coverage, the policy must be purchased with a specific time after initial payment on a trip. Usually 14-30 days.

Thanks so much. They won’t be pregnant when we book, but will be trying.

What third party insurers do people recommend? I usually just go with Disney’s own insurance, but will have to look into others due to their pregnancy policies.

I use one of the various travel insurance comparison sites. You just put in the parameters of what you want covered, and they will show you many different company's policies that will work for you. You compare the policies side-by-side and choose one.

I'd post a link to the one I use most of the time, but it's not allowed here. If you do a google search for "travel insurance comparison sites" you'll get several good hits.

I'm not sure of the rules about recommending specific travel insurance companies, but we have used Travelex in the past. (Although thankfully we haven't had to make a claim or collect insurance. Yet.)

Read the fine print and ASK specifically about coverage for pregnancy -- many plans specifically exclude anything related to pregnancy. I’m not sure about cancelling due to pregnancy. Call and speak to a rep to ask about specifics.

Enjoy your cruise!

We had to cancel our trip to Norway with DCL due to a preexisting condition- we chose our insurance specifically to cover that one specific medical condition- and we were able to quite easily and successfully submit a claim when we had to cancel. When you choose your insurance, just make sure it covers exactly what YOU want it to: ie bun in the oven.
Good luck!

We have always used Allianz. Fortunately have never had to use it but very easy to compare the different types of insurance available. Also, most plans cover children under the age of 17 for free.

Do you mind sharing what company you used? It's one thing to know what's covered and not covered. It's another if the company gives you a run around when you file a claim for a covered reason.

We use travel insured international. Very good rates and extensive coverage, and they list benefits in an easy to read chart for their different policies. I’m pretty sure pregnancy was a covered reason to cancel (if not pregnant at time of purchase), but definitely double check.

They partner with USAA, and I believe you get a small discount if you get to their site via usaa (if you are a USAA member).

Tripmate/ travelsafe. We bought it looking specifically to cancel in case of medical issues. They were great. I spoke with them prior to submitting the claim to make sure we had the correct wording on everything. It went very well as far as the process, and took about four weeks total until we got our refund. No run around at all. Also, even though we canceled for a surgical reason, our primary care doctor was able to sign the forms for us, which made things a lot easier than trying to get in touch with the surgeons office.
