I am a very new runner - just started this past spring. I ran my first 5K in early June - finished in just over 38 minutes and learned that while it's nice to keep pace with a slower friend, I wanted to run faster.

Ran my 2nd race in July and finished in 32:43. Was pretty happy with that time, but still looking for that magic 30.

So, my third race is this Sunday. My official goal is to finish faster than 32:43, but my secret wish is to clock at time that starts with 30. Not sure if I'll do it, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. :)

Sounds like you can make your goal this weekend. Good luck!

I see a PR in your future! Run the race your way, have fun, and you'll do great.

Good luck. You've made great strides (pardon the pun) since your first 5k. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself--but I do know how you feel about going out in a specific race to set a PR.

Hope the conditions are great and you run well!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! We had gorgeous weather and even though my mp3 crapped out (not used to running without music) I did ok and finished in 31:16 which is a PR for me. I had really hoped for a time starting with 30, but then I had to take a moment and reflect on just how far I've come. Last August, I joined WW weighing 220 pounds and didn't exercise one bit Today, at age 40, I just ran my third 5K race. I'm 75 pounds lighter. Each race I've done, I've finished faster than the one before. So, it's all good and I think I'm just gonna enjoy it all and be proud of myself today. :)

Awesome job!! :yay::yay::yay: And what a great accomplishment on both the weight loss and PR! I'm hoping for the same myself next weekend. My first 5k was last year and I did it in 35:06 so obviously I'm hoping to come in under that. This weekend has been spent in bed because I'm sick, so we shall see! But reading your post gives me hope and some extra motivation. Congratulations and I don't know how I would have done without music...hahaha! I really need that extra push from the tunes to get the job done. Great job :cheer2:

Fantastic! The discipline and willpower and effort to do what you have accomplished so far is great. I hope you find a good way to celebrate. And yes, you should be VERY proud of yourself.
