Thinking of taking Sunwing from Moncton to Orlando. Need input from those who have BTDT.

I live in PEI and saw that Sunwing has direct flights out of Moncton on Saturdays for a price that is much cheaper than the two big airlines. Are they really that terrible? I am travelling with two kids and the thought of a direct flight is very appealing even with the drive over and a night at a hotel. WJ does one out of Charlottetown but it is on Fridays and quite expensive, double that of Moncton with Sunwing. Please give me the good and the bad. I can also wait to see if there will be a seat sale from home although that also means at least one stop over as there are no direct flights on Saturdays. Anyone flown Sunwing from anywhere to Orlando?

What dates you thinking? I checked March 4 and 11th and it came back $411 and $325 per person.
Westjet is below that. Westjet also does direct on Sundays from Halifax.

We're going direct with Westjet from Halifax on a Tuesday morning returning direct on a Thursday night. We paid just under $600 per person. It was a bit higher but the times were awesome, early arrival and late departure.

That's a great price. Unfortunately, we have to go Sat.to Sat. Only Sunwing has a direct flight that day. Charlottetown direct with WJ would have been fine but the price would have been well over a thousand dollars each, twice the price of Sunwing.

Anyone flown Sunwing from anywhere to Orlando?

We flew Sunwing roundtrip Toronto to Orlando on our first Florida vacation (2009). Seating was very tight and DH (6' 4" and 290 pounds) was cramped and uncomfortable. We also weren't fans of the small drop-down TV screens every six rows or so.

We couldn't complain at all about the service, but we likely won't ever use them again.

Although it doesn't make a difference flying from Moncton (as there isn't a US preclearance facility), Sunwing will often not use the preclearance in Canada so you end up landing in Orlando as an international flight and will need to clear customs there. Long slow lines.

My wife used Sunwing from Moncton to Cuba last year, huge delays on both ends. But like she said it was cheap. There have been a lot of horror stories with Sunwing the last couple winters but if you go with the mindset that it's a lot cheaper and there may be delays then you'll be fine.

Eas I am travelling alone with my kids, not that they are all that young, I decided to change my dates and leave and return a day earlier. There is a direct WJ flight that hopefully will have some seat sales. What is more upsetting today is that I booked the DME for a short November trip where the flight leaves Orlando at 7 AM. Pick up time was listed at 2:45. We have a twelve hour layover in Toronto. Sure hope the time gets adjusted closer to our actual trip.

We've done Sunwing a few times in the past and really liked it. They gave colouring packages to the kids and the staff was very friendly. The only thing I did not like was when flying direct from Moncton, you have to clear customs in Orlando. If you are like me, once you get to MCO all you want to do is get on the Magical Express and make it to your resort. It took us about an hour to get through customs last time :(

Well, SW pretty much doubled their prices. Not an issue anymore. With gas and a hotel, pretty much equal to WJ and still hoping for a seat sale there. Glad I changed my dvc dates.
