We will be out there 7/5 and I still don't have ressies anywhere! LOL! I'm back and forth from one resort to another these days looking for best price. I'm still holding out for a 'room only code' or may end up getting AP for the AP discount room. Heck, my son, sisters and I may end up sleeping in a boat in Lake Buena Vista at the rate I'm going!LOL!!!
Anyway, thinking of staying at Dolphin in a ground floor patio room then moving on to a Disney resort, hopefully BWI or BWV. Anyone stay in a ground floor room at Dolphin? thanks for replies!

Well, I LOVE the Dolphin. I won't stay anywhere else....as for the patio/ground floor room - I prefer a balcony room. Balconies feel cleaner and more private to me than those ground floor rooms with patios. I feel safer being up a few floors - not that Disney isn't safe - I just always prefer being up a few floors....AND most importantly, I feel that I get a better, unobstructed view up a few floors. My daughter loved the beach themed carpeting at the Dolphin, so those trips to the room were fine with us - and has anyone noticed how FAST the elevators at the Dolphin are?

If you get a chance, REQUEST/BEG for room 8029. It faces Epcot ball and has a perfect view of Illuminations every night. Sitting out on the balcony is great - rather than pressing your face against the glass to see...the Florida breeze and sunshine coming into the room is great too - I guess you could get the breeze/sunshine in a patio room - but I don't think you'd have the view you would higher up.

If you have concerns about kids jumping off the balcony - My daughter is 6 and the balcony is sturdy and quite tall. I wouldn't ever let her be out there unattended, but it was certainly one of our favorite things down there. I will always request balcony from now on. It is worth the extra $ for us.

LBYC-19 has a wonderful, detailed thread on just what you want to know! She stayed in those rooms with teens and loved it. I tried to search but it's down. Go to the Starwood preferred guest thread (big). LBYC-19 is a "regular" there, I think she started the thread. Post off topic there and ask her to help you. I wanted those room types last year and investigated all her info. Hope this helps.

My aunt and uncle stayed in a ground floor room at the Dolphin in the furthest west wing. They faced west and had a beautiful view of the grotto pool waterfall and the beach. Really felt like you were on the "islands".

This wing is right off the hallway when you come in from the pool area, just down from the health club. It is very convenient to Tubbi's, just around the corner. It's almost like it's own section. There is a door leading to the hallway which makes it quiet and private.

If fireworks views, etc aren't important to you, you'll love this room. Their room was just as nice and clean as the other rooms in the resort that we've stayed in. We just prefer that balcony EPCOT view:p

We stayed two nights in a ground floor room at the Dolphin before moving to WL. Our room was large and comfortable with a very large window facing toward the Boardwalk. Very few people actually walked past our window. There were no doors to go ut - just a ground floor room with a big window. I really liked it and we could just buzz around the corner in the hallway and be outside.
