Thinking of going to DLP. I have some questions

I finally went to DLR last month and now I am on a mission to visit them all.

??? What resort is the best to stay in/best value?

??? Is there a way to book my resort and see the cost in US dollar?

??? I am thinking of coming in June of 2009. What is the weather/attendence like?

??? I have never been out of the US (with the exception of Canada) I will want to some sight seeing, How far would I have to go to see Paris?

??? This is a weird question- Driving, How is it. Is it on the right side of the car? Do others find it hard to handle? If I don't want to rent a car is there transportation I could depend on?

??? Space Mountain-does my DD really have to be 10 years old to ride? She is in love with DLR's version. Is it not like the US Versions?

In answer to your first question, the hotel you pick is totally down to personal choice. I highly recommend looking at the hotels sticky on this board.

June is normally quite warm (But I'm a Northern Brit, so most things are warm to me!) and it's often quite busy.

Paris isn't too far on the train at all- I haven't done this myself, but it's meant to be easy to do.

I'm sure other people can answer your other questions!

The most magical is probably the Disneyland Hotel itself- But that does cost a pretty penny!! We recently stayed in the Sequoia Lodge and that was a lovely hotel. They're all magic in their own way.

They arent resorts as such like in WDW but hotels. There are 6 main Disney Hotels all within walking distance of the parks but with shuttle buses as well- the cheapest is Santa Fe - mexican themed very basic but clean and comfy - no swimming pool.
Next is Cheyenne - western themed - again no swimming pool but nice hotel.
Sequioa Lodge, newport bay and New York are around the lake - all have pools and are slightly more expensive - new York being most expensive. Disneyland Hotel is at teh entrance to the park and is the most expensive of all - similar to Grand Floridian. there is also Davy Crocket ranch but you need a car for this as there are no shuttle buses.
There are lots of photos on the FAQ thread and you will find everyone has their favourite

Weather should be warmish but could also be wet as well - crowds shouldnt be too bad as not many school hols in June

You can easily get into Paris. there is a train station at the entrance to the parks where trains run every few minutes into Paris - takes about 30 mins

Cars drive on the right same as in USA so you shold be fine however the parks are within walking distance from the Disney Hotels and there are buses and trains from the airpot and as mentioned trains into Paris

4) Paris is easy to get to, 35 minutes on the metro (underground train)

5) Hard to say as in France and America we drive on the 'wrong' side of the road. Are you used to a stick shift? Most cars in Europe are not automatic.

6) The US Space Mountain is no where near DLRP's space mountain, I was so dissapointed with the US one. The DLRP version is more like RnRC, a looping launch coaster in the dark.

I hope you do come to DLRP, the parks, especially the DL park are beautiful.

Oh, on another note I am going on my 1st trip to Disneyland next month, we are staying at the Grand Californian!!

You are being well looked after but I know that others who have come across the pond have been advised to give consideration to using public transport.
Driving around Paris is a very different proposition

You can get the metro/RER from the airport to DLP but you have to change lines. there is also a bus (VEA) or a high speed train (TGV) or you can book a private transfer. There is more info on all these options on the FAQ sticky

US $$: The way to book your resort and see the cost in US is by going to the DLPR website and instead of clicking on the UK flag go to the end of all the flags shown and click on the "Other Countries" tab. After you put in US ... all prices will show in $$.

Driving: Like others I would recommend using the public trans. It's so super easy and driving in Paris is worse than NYC (if you've ever attempted that?) We spent a week in Paris and always used the Metro ... they have a passes you can get for your length of stay. Even if the driving doesn’t scare you ... it’s hard to find parking and you may end up leaving the car in park for the rest of your stay.

I've never flown in so don't know how best to get from the airport but others have answered that. In terms of getting into Paris it is simplicity itself - get an RER/Metro train from Marne le Vallee (the onsite station) direct into Paris. You can get a ticket for all day I think - a hop on/hop off thing - so you can get around in the city as well. It takes about 40 mins on the train.

Which hotel? Well I'd say the DLH but that is very expensive and not 'best value' - but it is the closest to the parks and I think the most magical. All of them have their own charm, though.

Can't speak for attendance but I would guess it would be quite busy. It is not school holidays in France or UK, so it won't be at full peak capacity, but will be busy nonetheless. Try to time your trip for weekdays rather than weekends as it is quieter in the week. (also cheaper).

Weather - bit like UK in June really, so yesterday it was 28 degrees and very sunny, today overcast, grey and only about 20. Unfortunately the best word for northern european weather is 'changeable' (!)

Driving - don't go there. Paris is notorious and if you are not used to a stick shift you'll be fighting the car as well as the traffic. Paris has one of the best public transport systems in the world, and having a car will be an inconvenience at best and a real nightmare at worst.

Second about forgetting the driving - it would be a total nightmare!! Public transport is easy to find your way around, even if you don't speak the language.

I also second that Space Mountain in Florida is WAY more extreme than the Florida version. Florida's Space Mountain is one of my favourite rides ever, so I went on the Paris one thinking it would be the same - well I was terrified and I felt sick for the whole of that day!

Thank you all for the information. I am thinking of using my DVC points and staying at Newport Bay. I can stay there for a week and still have enough points for a quick trip to WDW.

I also saw from the website there are tours that I can take. They pick you up at the resort and take you around Paris. Has anyone done these? Are they worth it?

I have decided I will not drive. I Live near Chicago and I know how bad it is here and I have done LA Driving. Paris sounds much worse. I will use the Metra sounds like a much better option.

I have found a metric conversion to help with height requirements on rides. Looks as if DD will not be able to ride Indie, Space Mountain and Rock N Roller Coaster. she is 45" right now so who knows how tall she will be in a year.

Thanks again for all your help. I am sure I will be depending on you quite a bit while planning since this is a complete new world for me. Any other ideas please let me know.

DisneyNut71: DW and I just got back from DLRP and have loads of info for those from the US thinking of this. We too would like to visit all 5 Disney resorts, but are reconsidering after the past week. Suffice to say, until my trip report hits in a few days, we found absolutely NO magic at DLRP (see our trip report for why). Before I get flamed, let me say that my wife cries when she passes under the train station in either Anahiem or Orlando and cries when she leaves, however this trip she just cried. Shoot me a PM if you'd like to hear more of our observations. DLRP is a VERY different experience than what Americans are used to.
