Thinking of giving up Le Cellier for Yachtsman

I have Le Cellier booked for the first night we arrive. I've read so many threads recently about how fantastic Yachtsman is, and now I'm wondering if I should switch.

What do you think? It's DH birthday also, and I thought we could catch illuminations afterwards but we could also do that the night we eat at Coral Reef. The TS credits are available so I could switch. That is, of course, assuming that I could even get an ADR at this point.

Then we could just do DTD and take it easy our first night.

Suggestions?

I love both. Yachtsman is fantastic, but is 2 TS credits whereas Le Cellier is only 1TS. Le Cellier is also harder to get reservations to because of the size. If the credits are not an issue, then I would choose Yachtsman.

We enjoyed Le Cellier (and saw Illuminations right after) but Yachtsman looks a little more special -- and really good looking steaks if you check out the dining reviews. (I've not gotten there yet ... I just have to plan more trips! )

That is a tough one. Isn't Yachtsman 2TS though? I can't remember now.

I think either choice would be good. Good luck with your decision but don't agonize too much over it. The food and atmosphere will be good at each! :thumbsup2

Well I just picked Yachtsman's over Le Cellier, mind you not having dined at either before, but the menu and pics won me over!

We've eaten at both places (just ate at the Yachtsman on Aug. 6th) & we would pick the Yachtsman. :thumbsup2

Yachtsman has some of the worst steak we have ever had, along with the worst service.

For a special occasion, I definately wouldn't go there.

I dined at Le Cellier about 5 years ago and it was good. I thought I would go back. After that I dined at YSH, and there is no way I could go back to Le Cellier. YSH blows it out of the water. I have had 4 amazing meals there over the past 4 years (3 times it was on our anniversary...and we got perks) and will probably go back within the next year. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

That's a very tough call...

IMO, Yachtsman has slightly better food, but I'd let the TS factor make the choice... If Yachtsman is two and Le C one... Go with Le C. Plus, strolling out and having Illuminations right there is a delightful thing.

Then again, a brisk walk back from Yachtsman after a big dinner is nice, too...

ack !

I don't know ! :rotfl:

No contest, YSH. We've dined there several times for special events (DP's birthday in particular) and with the exception of once, when we had Liu for a server, we've always had excellent service.

The beef is wonderful, and cooked exactly to your specifications.

Oscar and Ricardo are wonderful servers. You may have to wait a bit beyond your ADR time, but do ask if either man is on the night you go. It's an easy matter to sit at the Crew's Cup lounge and enjoy pre-dinner cocktails while waiting for your table.

The chateaubriand is wonderful, as is the filet mignon.

If you tell them it is a birthday, you will have special service, lovely little extras and a very nice dessert.

You're not making this easy for me...............

It's absolutely insane and it makes no sense but I almost feel like I am losing something by giving up the coveted "le Cellier" reservation. It's like I won a lottery or something " ooooh I managed to get Le Cellier" and now I'm just going to give it away. Ridiculous, I know. Everything points to Yachtsman being superior, and yet I can't bear to part with my ressie. :confused3

Seriously, I'm insane. Too much DISing. Too much info has turned me insane. No matter what I do now I'll always have that nagging feeling it was 'maybe' the wrong choice. Yachtsman will be fabulous and I'll think "Oh, but that mushroom filet and cheese soup - I'll never know" or I'll enjoy that mushroom filet and cheese soup and think "bet it would have been even better at Yachtsman"

Can you imagine me in the cereal aisle at the grocery store!? :rotfl:

Nosy Parker, I did this exact thing in June! I had a Le Cellier reservation I had made at the 6 month mark but then closer in I wanted to try Yachtsmen. I switched with that "omg what have I done" sort of feeling. I am so glad I did. Le Cellier is very good but I was a bit underwhelmed probably because I had too much hype on my mind. Again, it was very good. Yachtsmen was wonderful, probably the best steak I have eaten since the days my uncle raised his own beef in Texas.

We had the TS credits available and frankly, when I do the DDP I like to have a 2TS or two so that I have a couple of days when I don't have a sit down. I like a couple of free to do as I please days. So far Yachtsmen is my favorite 2TS place I have tried.

We had exceptional service and the atmosphere was wonderful and understated. And I second the filet. It was to die for. We had Thomas for our server and he was great. We really enjoyed talkig with him.

I feel your pain. We have an ADR at both places for our upcoming trip. We love both places and couldn't pick one over the other!!

Well, I will just have to see for myself! I have decided that I cannot bear to choose, so I will book both. First night dinner Le Cellier, last night dinner Yachtsman. Of course that means I have to give up Citricos, but I think I can live with that.

However, in order to do this I will have to book for about 8:00. Will this be too late? I figure I should be done the main course by 9:00 - 9:30, right?

Thanks everyone!!

I have written in my notes from our summer trip that when we ate at the Yachtsman on Aug. 5, we had a 7:40pm ADR, were seated immediately, & were finished with dinner & walking out at exactly 10pm. We had a wonderful, leisurely dinner. I think it was the best meal we've ever had on property.

Yachtsman is 2 TS but they still handcut their steaks daily. IMO it has a better atmosphere and at least you don't feel like you are sitting with the table next to you and hearing that tables entire conversation without trying.

I have celebrated many birthdays at YSH and it is our favorite place to do so - great food and the best birthday cakes - they have a outstanding pastry team so we always call and order cakes for when we are dining there.

Have a great time whichever you decide.

Is that one of the cakes in your sig??? It looks outstanding! Isn't your hubby a chef there or something? I think I recall seeing that on another thread.

I've actually decided to keep Le Cellier for DH's birthday and added YSH on our last night. Do you think I could still celebrate with a cake? Because I won't be able to get Le Cellier on our last night at this point. I would just have to outright cancel. Maybe I can get a trade?

It's one of our favorites too. Every meal we've eaten there has been great. We had Thomas too and he was fantastic. We never had an empty glass and seemed to anticipate our needs.

Yes, the chateaubriand is absolutely amazing. That would definitely be my choice for a birthday meal.

OP, You may be a bit underwhelmed by Le Cellier, especially for a special occasion. It's been our experience there that it was crowded and we felt rushed and also felt like we were sitting with the people next to us. The steaks were just ok and I honestly have little desire to go back.

My Fiance is the Chef there correct. But I did go to that restaurant alot before I got to meet him. LOL I have had about 12 cakes within the Yacht and Beach club and they are always moist and flavorful - the pastry team in that resort is just incredible.

You should celebrate his birthday the whole trip! Make sure you get him a birthday button at guest services. If you call the cake hotline or in-room dining at the Yacht Club they can tell you the options of flavors for cakes and prices depending what size you would like. They do have great desserts there too if you didn't want a whole cake.

Have a great trip!!
