Thinking of ditching my Delta card for Southwest.

I saw today Southwest has a 50,000 bonus offer.

I already have an American Express Delta. I love the card. Has saved me big on flights over the past few years, even with the Annual fee. Sadly flights to Orlando from Detroit are getting out of hand. We are flying into Tampa our next trip just to save some money it was about 149 less per person that way. Also with me Delta card it limits me only to fly out of DTW, and if I want to drive further CVG. Another pro is the zone 1 boarding which is nice with the kids and your over head luggage. Plus we don't pay baggage fees.

Pro of switching to southwest. We could fly out of Dayton, and save about an hour drive to the airport. So far flying out of dayton looks cheaper currently than DTW. They also offer non stops out of CMH, and hopefully will take over DTW soon. If we had to we could go to Cleveland to that airport. The options and schedules look so much more appealing than Delta. So far Southwest does not have baggage fees. Only down side is no assigned seating. But the girls are only getting older.

Any suggestions? Comments? Anyone every switch and they wish they wouldn't have?

personally couldn't tell you last time I flew on a delta flight. I'd get SW card myself. You would have more choices of airports and I personally find times better and flights cheaper. My home airport is Columbus and sw has had at least 1 ns flight each day sometimes 2-3. I have a friend who lives in MI so I am quite familiar with DTW and SW there also. IN last year she has gained 2 airports plus DTW to chose when flying SW, so it makes my life 200% easier when trying to meet up with her in FL.
In Michigan you have Grand Rapids ( ford airport), Flint ( bishop) and Detroit. If you cross over into Ohio you have Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton plus I'm thinking there is another airport with SW or soon getting SW.

I personally have had no issues with open seating and actually like it better as Everytime I booked a flight and selected a seat on another airline I lost it to downsize in plane or some other reason, I think I got to sit by DH once in all those flights and that was one where they had 4 yo seated in back of plane alone and her adults in front of plane, that would have been an interesting flight for all if I hadn't had her sit in Dh's seat and him in hers.

there is no downside to the swa cc bonus offer.:thumbsup2 except that you will want to go places, because now you can:thumbsup2
It is great, and you can use it for sales,to max your points, open seating is not a huge deal, just check in at 24 hr. mark,or pay 12.00 for early bird seats-($12 to fly? no problem!) have fun with it!

Love Southwest over Delta! You can check in 24 hours ahead of your flight and get a spot in the boarding line. The closer you are to the front, the easier it will be to find your "desired" seat. However, with the money you'll most likely save over Delta, you might want to consider the $12 charge to get seats together.

We've flown Southwest at least 20+ times with the kids and even when a flight had to be detoured to Orlando to get us (our plane was stuck somewhere having severe thunderstorms), people moved around so we could sit with the kids.

Good luck! Happy flying!
