Thinking of buying resale - have questions

Ok - we are looking at DVC purchase again. This time we're looking at resales. I have one basic (I think) question.
Say we werre to purchase a resale that right now has 50 points banked from 2006, and another 200 points available Feb 2007. And we purchased it sometime in the next month or so. When would we be able to make a reservation using all 250 points? Can we make a reservation as soon as the purchase goes through (say that's in November) for a stay in March that requires use of all 250 points? Or do we have to wait until Feb 1 when the points are awarded to make the reservation?

You can make your reservation for March as soon as you are in Disney's system. You will be able to use the points that are banked from '06 and the new points from your '07 UY.

There is a "NEW" incentive program for purchasing SSR through Disney DVC and being referred by a member.

I got notice from my guide on last week that there now is a 14.8% discount to buy SSR..."IF" referred by a DVC member. This equates to $86. per point!!

If you purchased this resale it might be problematic to make a ressie in March, depending on where you are looking. You will have lost your 7 to 11 month advantage and about half of your 7 month window. Also March is a busy month for Disney.
Be prepared to make a ressie later on in 2007.

Yes, you'll be able to make the ressie...but as BillM pointed out, you may have difficulty getting the resort you want due to the timing. Do you already have some specific dates in mind? Just PM me if you know what dates, resort, and room type (studio, 1bdrm, etc) and I'll call and check availability if you'd like. Also, be realistic about ROFR. I'd hate for you to get your heart set on the resale and start making vacation plans that don't materialize because Disney exercise's their right to buy. But hey, nothing ventured...nothing gained, right?

With a Feb Use Year:
Your 2006 points are valid for stays from 2/1/06 to 1/31/07
Your 2007 points are valid for stays from 2/1/07 to 1/31/08
Your 2008 points are valid for stays from 2/1/08 to 1/31/09
etc.

Since the '06 points have been banked into the Feb '07 Use Year, they can be used for stays from 2/1/07 to 1/31/08, so you will have 250 points available for use for stays during that time period.

You can make reservations at your home resort 11 months prior to your check out date and at non-home resorts 7 months prior to your check out date regardless of your Use Year. The only thing that matters is that you have enough points available that are valid for use for the dates of your stay. In your case, you may have a problem with availability for your dates. If you cannot arrange that particular trip, you have until 1/31/08 to use the 50 banked points and the 2007 points can be banked into your 2008 Use Year if you cannot use them any earlier.
