Thinking of buying Itouch, refurb or new?

I am very close to buying myself an Itouch but I am still on the fence about which generation to buy. I am definitely getting a 32g but I don't know which generation to get. Amazon has the newest model for $275 free shipping while the Apple store has a refurb 32g, previous generation, for $229 free shipping.

I know that the newer model has the HD camera, camera on both sides and other enhancements. The previous model does not. I would like to know if there are any of you out there who has either or both and your opinions.

Should I spend the extra $50 for the newest one or save my money with the refurb.

I should mention that I don't know anyone who I could talk to with the camera feature in the newest one. So what I am getting at is besides the camera feature, is there a major difference between the two?

Your thoughts please.

Thank you

I have the refurb 3rd generation. I paid $229 on Woot last June. It's crashed a couple of times and I don't have a warranty - which you would, buying directly from Apple. I'm happy enough, but I'd wouldn't mind having the camera ;) if it wasn't a hardship.

I've had the newest (got from Amazon) for a few weeks now and I LOVE it. Got a speaker dock for it and the sound is amazing. Gonna take me forever to load in all my CDs, but I must say from someone who has never before owned an Apple product, it is amazingly easy to use and I can't believe how much it can do (and I've barely scratched the app surface).

Good luck whatever you decide.

We purchased a 2nd generation 32 gb refurb from Apple. They currently have them for $209. We are very happy with it. I knew I wanted it to play music, digital movies and games. It does those things and I do not miss the other features (like camera). In fact, I don't even know what the other features are.

I knew my kids would be playing with this. I also didn't want to spend a fortune and I thought getting more hard drive space was more important to me than having the newest version.

As for buying refurbished, my extended family has purchased at least 5 refurbished ipods from apple. We have not had problems with any of them.

Everything I've ever bought from Apple has been refurbished....so about 6 iPods and 3iTouch's. I never had a problem:thumbsup2

I have one that was bought new. Youngest DS has one that was bought refurbished. I had to have my "New" one replaced under warranty when the battery connector went bad and now have a replacement one. Since the replacement was 3rd gen and was replaced after the 4th gen came out I'm assuming my replacement is a refurb (I got it at the store and was not given a box or anything to go with it - but other than finding parking the process was utterly painless). So far so good on DS' touch. No problems with it.

and I LOVE it. That being said, the camera is terrible. It is nice to have it with me all the time (although I have a not so great one on my phone too). But it will in no way replace your digital camera for pix of kids and such.

I'm sure Face Time is fun but we have never used it.

Not to throw a wrench into anything, but if you aren't married to Apple, what about considering a Droid device? For example, you can get the Optimus V phone from Virgin Mobile for $200, not even use it as a phone, and use it as a PDA/MP3player and WiFi device. Add $25/mo, andit's your phone, too. The memory is upgradeable just by adding a bigger SD card.

This is just one example, but there are plenty of Droid devices, and there should be som ereally good tablets coming out soon, too. I *think* the Visio Via tablet is coming out near summer, and it rumored to be ~$300.

Just a thought.
