Thinking About Short Solo Trip

So, I am just so eager to get back to WDW, even having just returned form a different solo vacation in Iceland. Unfortunately, my friends either can't or don't want to go, so I'd be doing this solo too. I am not sure how it would be as it seems like being alone might be weird. Also, with nobody to split a room cost with, I am trying to keep it short. I might even just go for MNSSHP or MVMCP (maybe an additional day on each), but not sure. There is some cheap airfare for either time.

What do you guys do when going solo? Is it worth it to go for just a couple of days? I'd like to do at least something this year since early next year promises changes and refurbs. Thanks.

Do it. I take short trips as well, mostly due to time constraints. I like going when there are parties so I can get extra park time. If you go in the fall when it's less crowded, you can accomplish so much due to short wait times. You can accomplish even more going solo since you only have to answer to yourself.

How was Iceland? I hope to go next year.

I love going in the fall, it's the best time. I don't want to wait until next year, and I had thought about going in Jan/Feb, but don't want to with the Splash Mountain Refurb (I missed it last time when I was there in Feb too). I just don't know how much fun it would be on my own.

Iceland was COLD! Seriously though, it is an amazing place, unlike anything I've ever seen. I went for adventure stuff like caving and glacier climbing. My friends wouldn't do that either, but I was in tour groups so it was okay. It was amazingly cold and windy, even in "summer" but it was very worthwhile. I enjoyed it a lot!

I couldn't really tell you whether it would be fun or not. In my opinion, going alone is more like an experience. If someone asked me whether I had fun the last time I went solo, I would have said yes and no. I envied those who were having a blast with friends and family, but at the same time, I did not envy the parents with screaming children, the couples that needed to read "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus", and the teens who couldn't go on the rides that wanted to go on because their friends said it was "uncool" to do so.

Anyone can have fun at Disney alone, you just have to decide to have fun. If you are really itching to go, then go. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with waiting till someone else can go next fall. Just don't wait forever.

Thanks for the info about Iceland. Cold is good. I'm going to go run the half-marathon. I run faster in the cold so the weather is a plus. I also want to take a dip in the blue lagoon.

Cold is a plus, it's the constant 40 MPH wind that can be a drag. Hopfully, it will be at your back when running!

Yeah, I am still pondering. I think I could have fun alone, but I am having to rethink my usual strategy. I might change what I see and do. I knida wanna do MNSSHP, which could work out as I don't think my frineds would be so into that anyway.

I travel solo to the World often! I have the best time, more so than I do with friends/family as I am so free to do what I want, when I want. I have been able to really take it all in and enjoy my time there.

I have never experienced any odd looks or negative response to being solo. Most CMs will take more time with you, talk you up some, and give better service IMO.

I have also met some great people traveling solo. I met two ladies that were with a youth group at lunch one day. All the tables were filled at Pecos Bill, and they asked to join me. We had a great time talking about our trips and enjoying meeting someone new. It only lasted about 30 minutes but made my day! :thumbsup2

I have never been to MVMCP but have done MNSSHP solo. I had a GREAT time! So much so, I am going to 2 parties next month (5 day trip), and planed a weekend trip in December for MVMCP (3 days).

I say go and don't look back. You will only regret it later that you didn't go when you have the chance. :goodvibes

I am not particularly worried about anyone giving me strange looks. I get THAT wherever I am! :confused3 I'm just not sure about not having anyone to talk with, especially in lines. I dunno, I did Iceland solo, but it's such a different sort of activity. I'm still not certain exactly when I can do it either, since I just took a week off, getting days in Oct might be a problem, but Dec would probably be ok.

Dec is great!!!
everything - parks, DD & hotels are decorated.
It is really (my opinion) the best.

if you plan properly and do the early morning thing - you can see a lot in a few days.

some of my best trips were only a few days!:rolleyes1

now if you have problems talking to strangers - don't worry - most people will love to talk to you. Just say hi - or ask if a long time - how long they have been there.

you will talking like old friends - fairly shortly.

now you can bring your phone -

Talking with people is not a problem for me. I enjoy it usually and do find people to be generally friendly at the World. I might have a friend willing to go now though, but we are mulling it over. It would be December if so which would be lovely I'm sure.

I'm an introverted solo traveler to Disney (well Disneyland, not so much Disney World yet).

The CMs are really accommodating and single rider lines are AWESOME. If you're itching to go, I say go for it. (=

It sounds like you're comfortable in your own skin so do it! Go solo if your friend isn't able to make it. December is great with the holiday decorations. And if you are into music, the Candlelight Processional is a must-see and very easy to scoot into as a solo (rarely do you need a dinner package if you're a solo).

The length is up to you but every one of my solo trips were at least 6 days, 5 nights. I did have some regret at times that I couldn't share a particular funny incident or event with someone, but I found it very easy to chat with people (other guests or CMs) to pass the time.

I hope you do it and love it!

Well, whatever I do, it won't be a super long trip since I just came off of one in Iceland. Between the costs and time off work, I can't do anything extreme. I figure 2 days if solo, 4 if i can get a friend to split the hotel room.

I'll be there from Feb 21-24. I'm bummed to hear Splash Mountain will be closed :(

Well, it looks like I'm back on the solo train. I think I am going to do it, I just have to decide If I want just a couple days at Haloween or maybe slightly longer the first week of December. I am generally more of a Haloween type person, but that is a very quick turnaround.

My first solo trip was three nights - and I got in late on the first night so really I only had three days in the park. I'm doing a four night solo in November.

It's really nicely decorated both at Halloween AND at Christmas, so you're ok either way.

On my last solo trip, I booked on a Tuesday and left the middle of the next week; it was great! If you love Halloween, just go! I usually let airfare dictate when I go, so maybe you could do an Orbitz search to see if there's a good date money wise and then decide based on that.

Edited to add: maybe also check your desired dates on easywdw and see which one is lower and go then?

Yeah, the only reason I am even considering it is because there is currently very cheap airfare from here to there. I think I want to fly down on Halloween, go to MNSSHP that night, spend the next day in a park (either Epcot or DHS, maybe MK again if I don't get my fill). Then I would leave the following day (the cheap flights are all midday so I wouldn't have time to play on my way out).

Does anyone know if the actual Halloween night party is super-crowded? Will it matter for rides, or does everyone just participate in the other activities (though I must see the parade too!)?

You may have seen my other thread. I just needed to be talked into it. First solo trip, just a short one. I see it as an experiment. It is going to be different than my usual style, but I get to go to MNSSHP so it is all worth it!

Thanks for the support! Check the sig! ::yes::

:thumbsup2

You'll have to come back and let everyone know what you thought!

I Say DO IT!
of course I like not having anyone to talk to...it is very different than my everyday work/life.

I have been many times, and I think the only time I felt alone/sad was when I went in December seeing all the Christmas decorations, I felt like my Niece and Nephew should be there too...

I did get over it ;)

People will talk to you MORE in lines and everywhere else, if you're solo! It is AMAZING how much more approachable one becomes when not visibly tied to someone else.
