So, DH and I have had luck for the past two years trading our Hilton points for DVC rooms, but I'm sure that's not going to last.

Therefore we are discussing selling one of our contracts (we own 2) and buying DVC, but are totally confused.

1) How many points would we need if we would want a 2BR, probably during a peak season like April (Hilton's points scale is totally different from DVC so we are trying to figure it out)

2) Would you suggest resale or going through DVC directly, does it save us any money to do resale?

3) We LOVE OKW, so would probably look to own there, would that be our best bet.

We tried looking up the info through Disney directly but the want our phone number and we don't want to have them calling us and bothering us so I thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks!!

If you are interested in OKW, buying in through resale will be a great idea. It will save you over Disney. Right now, they are offering OKW, with the extended expiration date of 2057, for $90/ppt.

Resale, you can find resale contracts for around $60 - $65/ppt. Some expire in 2042 and some expire in 2057.

If your April trip revolves around Easter, it would be premium points. In 2011, a 2 bedrooms would be 398 points for a full week. If it didn't fall in the Easter weeks, then it would 296 points for a full week, quite a bit less.

Since you can book by the days, it would be less if you didn't go for 7 nights.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for this info! They won't give out prices through the online chat and we would have to wait until they sent us the info in the mail.

We'd obviously have to coordinate this with selling our Hilton timeshare, which Hilton claims they will buy it back from us at what they sold it to us, not sure if that still is true, but something we would want to do before we bought another vacation club.

If you are going some Premium and some not so premium time, you can make some compromises for when you have to go during premium season.

You can:

try to get a resort that uses fewer points per night (OKW, BWV-Standard)
stay fewer nights (weekends cost more)
stay in a smaller villa. (AKL and BLT) have 1 bedrooms that sleep 5.
stay in 2 studios instead of a 2 bedroom villa.

buy a few too many points when you travel non-premium times and bank/borrow to give you enough points for when you do travel at the premium times.

You can also purchase a few points here and there from DVC to keep from orphaning your points.

The beautiful thing about DVC is that you have a lot of flexibility in how you use your points.

Good Luck!

As Sandi said, you can buy OKW for $60-65.

For a reference point, DVC is selling OKW for $95 directly. Quite a difference!

 Wow! That sure is. We have a call into someone to see about selling ours. We've decided that if it's a wash between the two vacation clubs we are going to go for it (even though DVC's annual dues are more, we think it would be a better choice for us).

Now off to research resale contracts.

Thanks for all the help!
