Thinking about quick trip in March.....

DH will be deployed and I'm looking for something to do with the boys in March. I have one in school so I'd be looking at his Easter break week. I'm thinking about 3/13-3/18. We will drive (2 days each way) and already have PAPs.

Am I nuts? It has occurred to me that this will be prime tourist season because of the entire South being on break as well.

We just had our first trip last Oct/Nov and will be going again for a family reunion at the end of July when honey gets back. So I'm just thinking it would be fun to sneak in an extra trip.

I'm going to have to make this super cheap if I'm going to convince DH it's a good choice.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Yes, you're nuts! But it's okay, because we're all Disney Nuts here.

I would never recommend that a Disney rookie visit the parks during any holiday season. For veterans, it's a different story. Veterans already know the lay of the land. We don't stop to look at park maps. We already know where the restrooms are. We know where we want to go and what we want to see. We know how to use FastPasses, EMH and single rider lines to our advantage. We don't have that "gotta see it all" approach to the parks.

The nice part of having those PAPs is that you will not feel pressured to "get your money's worth" out of a trip to the parks. If they get too crowded or too hot, you can leave without feeling that you've wasted a day from your pass. And since you'll be returning in July (which is crazier than going during Spring Break, IMHO), you can always tell yourself "I will be back" when you have to skip a favorite attraction due to long lines or fatigue.

If you can find an affordable way to do it, then I say go for it!

Two days each way??? I hope that time wasn't included in your date range.

How much would that cost in gas and overnight stays vs. flying?

You may be ahead of some of the crowds since Easter is at the end of March. Our school usually does not tie the break to the holiday, but did this year, with Good Friday being the first day off.

I agree with the poster who said using a PAP eliminates some of the concerns of going at peak times. We had them last year and just bypassed anything with a long line, knowing there would be another time. We went at Spring Break, on the 4th of July, and at Christmas. The last couple of days of our passes, which expired 12/28, the crowds were starting to get to us a bit. After ten days straight in the parks, we were ready to give them a rest.

For the 3 of us, it's much cheaper to drive than fly. It certainly takes more time, but we have the time available.

We took our first trip last Oct/Nov for 2 weeks and had the most wonderful, relaxed time of our lives! We got to see every, single item on all the wish lists and still had 4 days left to go back and do favorites again and again. And by the second week, I did have FPs under control as well. :cheer2: :cheer2:

The July trip (which was NOT my idea or timing) is a family reunion. It's based on vacations and work schedule for many of the extended family. I would have made it the beginning of September to include the European members, but then no one asked me. hehehehehehe We will be there 7/20-7/27 with the actual reunion day (the only mandatory day together) on the 23rd. So we'll have quite a bit of time to ourselves. I expect we'll do many of the favorites via FPs and late hours. Beat that heat back at the condo and/or water parks.

With hubby being away for almost 7 months, I was thinking a trip to WDW sorta midway might be nice. We can just pick our favorites and not worry about any commando thoughts.

As an added bonus that I completely forgot, with our first trip being no crowds and 2 weeks long, the boys each collected 47 autographs and photos. That leaves us with a very few that we want for our scrapbooks. So we won't be too interested in lines for that more popular charaters. Our whole attitude is if we stumble onto a character we want, great. If not, oh well.

OK, much longer than I intended. Thanks all!

Now I'm off to remember how to adjust my signature line with the new date for July and the potential trip in March.

Pixie Dust to all!!!!!

I was there in Oct and came back and planned another for Dec. It was awesome! I say go for it! But if it were me, I would take the child out of school and go any other week than that vacation week! Its just no fun when it is sooo crowded! Heck, take school off, if they don't like it, too bad! "Family time is way more important than 1 week if school!" I am lucky enough to quote that from DD's teacher !
