*I posted this question/discussion in another part of the forum but got no help or responses so I thought I would post it here, I that's not allowed please feel free to delete the other post in the other section of the forum, thanks*

My partner and I have been together now for almost 3 years (3 at the end of this month to be exact) and I have been toying around with the idea to pop the Q at DLR. We are tentatively planning to head back to DLR/CA around the end of October again (our first visit was last June and it was AWESOME!) and had a small thought of doing it last time but thought it too soon.....but by the time we hopefully head back to the park in Oct it would be roughly 3 1/2 years together, and I just feel it's the right time.

Any suggestions of how to go about it, what can be offered to help when the times comes, etc. would be greatly appreciated as multiple minds thinking at once is much better than just my own mind.

Thanks!!

You want public or private?

If you are staying at the Grand you can arrange for a private balcony dinner for two that has a view of the fireworks. Not sure on the cost of that but an intimate way to do it.

I was sitting once at the dessert counter at Napa Rose and got to see this whole process unfold...a couple had just a regular reservation then the gentleman got up and gave the ring to the Maitre D. The Maitre D then had the pastry chef build a dessert around the ring...when dessert time came the server presented the plate to the partner with the ring in the center and he got down on his knee...all the rest of the staff then surrounded the table to applaud once she said yes....that one was pretty cool.

I always liked the sign in the background of a Splash Mountain picture method myself

My advice is to keep your partner's personality in mind first and foremost

The ideas shown above would have made me want to die. Relatively of course. If dh Jose a public proposal it wold have gotten a NO because obviously he didn't actually know me.

Yah those are some extreme examples that *I* couldn't bring myself to do and I'm the one asking....lol

I know someone who has a caricature with the "Will you marry me" in her kitchen. It's adorable and a nice keepsake they have. It is how he proposed to her.

I'm not 100% sure on whether I want a public or a private type proposal was kind of poking around the forum here to see what members may have experienced themselves or seen others at the park do as well or like the photos posted in the thread already some of the less conventional ways of doing it as well haha

I'm wondering if a proposal near the castle Snow White grotto would be kind of nice? Maybe you could get a character involved? I could see the Maleficent doing a photo op with you, and then glaring at you and saying something along the lines of, "And you say you're not married? Fool, why have you not yet proposed?" Cue you saying something like, "Good point" and getting down on one knee. Or something like that.

I only thought of this because we met Maleficent in that area, and she was deliciously nasty. :)

Good luck! pixiedust:

We witnessed a proposal on the storybook ride they had a boat to themselves and it was stopped for the fireworks. I thought it was very romantic and sweet with only our boat behind them aware of what was going on.

That would be a hoot!
If we could find the same lady who was the evil queen when we met her last year be involved I might just do it that way as she was amazingly wicked and it would make for a very memorable proposal haha!

Just an FYI. What I understand is the characters have instructions to not be in proposal photos. I have heard people succeed at this though.

One thought is to watch the fireworks and propose during or after...

Almost every purposely I've seen there have been very public even by Snow White grotto. So I would first decide if that is something you and your partner would appreciate. I personally loved the caricature ones I've seen, but again very public to the point the artist displays a sign saying quiet purposely taking place.
I'm not a public person and I don't like people watching me. have you thought about just at end of day or after a nice dinner or moment Suggest that you two should plan your honeymoon there or try wdw for it?

We saw this happen last December. The man had figured it out ahead of time, then came in the exit/handicapped entrance with his honey. They had their own boat, and they held off the next boat for a little bit (ours was the next one in line, so as soon as they were out of earshot, they let us know why we were taking so long to load, and why we would be stopping at the bridge to watch the fireworks). Apparently when they do this, which is about weekly, the proposal boat stops at the archways where it's playing "A Whole New World" for the fireworks and expected proposal. Oh, and the skipper of the boat is usually completely willing to take a few pictures of the moment :) I have to admit it was fun knowing that was happening in the boat in front of us! When we happened to pass them, they were looking all in love, snuggled up, and we all applauded and sent our congratulations over the water way. (I hope she said yes!)

I tend to be a generally private person, and I agree that nearly any proposal done at Disneyland is pretty darn public. I mean, that's just the way it is when you are somewhere with your 50k closest friends, ya know? I think that's one of the things I loved about the Storybook Canal boats' proposal idea--it's quiet, it's relatively private (except for the boat's skipper, and passing Casey Jr trains), it's a romantic area, and I'm a sucker for "A Whole New World" (it was the processional song at our wedding, as a matter of fact, since we were going into "a whole new world" together as a married couple).

Of course, if Storybook Canal Boats aren't a favorite, there's several others that would do something similar, I'm sure, though the romanticism may be lost... I mean, you have the water and the exotic local when you're on the Jungle Cruise, but I don't think hearing other boats screaming "O 2 H!" as they go by would be romantic ;) Perhaps up top of the Mark Twain at dusk/twilight? On a beloved area or attraction? The area over by Maurice's Treats is much quieter, in general, than a lot of other areas of the park. DH and I loved The Court of Angels, but when it was closed, we discovered a similar quiet little courtyard near the Pirates exit (though Pieces of 8, I think the store is called).

I think the most important consideration is what your partner would appreciate in terms of a proposal - big and public, small and private or something in-between.

It might be worthwhile emailing Disneyland to ask them for any advice / suggestions?

We both are like crazy public in your face kind of people but at the same time we aren't super quiet keep to ourselves all the time type of people either, so I'm thinking probably something in between? He tends to catch on to things so if it's a private type thing I have a feeling he'd catch on to it, so I kind of want something spur of the moment unexpected kind of thing. As cliche as it tends to be I would love to do it with the castle in the background and if I can get one of the CM who does the photos in front of the castle to take photos or something I think that would be swell, but again very public but still romantic yes?

I love the Mark Twain idea!! I also thought maybe Small World, where it may also be possible to score your own boat, and tie in a cheesy joke like "my small world wouldn't be complete without you!". Privacy is rare in DL for sure... there are quiet-ish parts of DCA, like the benches by the WOC viewing area, the Terrace bar/eateries, and sometimes around Grizzly River Run. Maybe at the new WOC dessert party with a festive glass of sparkling wine. Or maybe you could make a reservation somewhere nice for the night you pop the question to add a little splurge to your celebration.

Congratulations!

Have fun planning!!
