Thinking about getting a DVC

I was wondering... do you get maid service like you do when staying at the resorts? I'm hoping that we don't have to bring linens and towels with us. That would be a deal breaker. I've always done the Concierge level in the past. Hope this doesn't sound like a really stupid question. LOL.

Thanks,
Nancy

You will not get daily mousekeeping when staying on points.

Mousekeeping will take your trash and bring fresh towels on the 4th day of your stay fo visits 7 nights or less. They will do a full cleaning on the 4th day for visits 8 nights or longer. You can pay extra for daily mousekeeping.

You will not have to bring towels or sheets.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how much it cost for daily Mousekeeping?

Just to clarify TenThousandVolts post...

The rooms are cleaned and ready for occupancy when you arrive, the beds are made up (except for the fold out sofas...linens will be in the closet.

The vast majority of DVC owners, while initially finding it a "weird" concept that there is not daily housekeeping, actually prefer it that way...no worrying about whether you need to get out of the room so the maids can service it.

If you stay 7 nights or less, you will receive fresh towels on day 4 of your stay, and the trash cans will be emptied (Trash & Towel Service). If you are staying 8 nights or longer, you will receive a full housekeeping on day 4, with Trash and Towel on day 8, then the caycle repeats.

There are several different levels of maid services available, if you don;t need fresh sheets and beds made up daily.

From the member website:

Housekeeping
All accommodations offer daily housekeeping service with a 24-hour notice and an additional fee.

Trash & Towel Service

For stays of seven or less nights, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day four, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
Provide fresh bathroom linens.
Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in One-, Two- and Three-Bedroom Vacation Homes.

Full Cleaning Service
For stays of eight or more nights, Full Cleaning Service is provided on day four and Trash & Towel Service is provided on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day 12, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Full Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

Change the bed linens.
Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
Clean the bathroom(s).
Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

Pay As You Play

With Pay As You Play service, you'll be provided with the following amenities free of charge at the start of your stay. After that, you may purchase more for the following fees:

Remember that a "home away from home" resort is truly like your home. There are towels, linens, cooking utensils, washer/dryer, appliances, dinnerware etc, etc, and it's up to you to use them as you would at home. The added benefit is that every 4th day, someone will come in and take out the trash and leave you fresh towels and toiletries. ( I wish I could have that at home too!)

Frankly, we LOVE that housekeeping isn't constantly traipsing in and out of our "home". We don't have to worry about anyone disturbing an afternoon "nap";) or shower, or have to wait for housekeeping. Of course, on T&T days and full cleaning days, that's still an issue, but 2 days out of a vacation, I can deal with it!

I have to agree with Chuck S and dianeschlicht , I thought when we first bought DVC it would be weird not having daily maid service. But for the reasons they stated I love not having it.

I enjoy knowing when we make it back to our room from the Magic Kingdom around noon , we don't have to worry if housekeeping has been there or not!

I guess not having maidservice was not a big deal for me. We use to go to the beach every summer for a week or longer. We use to rent a condo. We never got maidservice at the condos you rent at the shore. We actually had to bring our own linens, pillows, blankets and much, much more. So getting no housekeeper was expected since this is similar to renting someone's home for a short time. I'm just so happy that linens are supplied!!

BTW, I love it that I can go to the park in the AM, grab lunch and then take a nap and never have to worry about housekeeping wanting to come in, if they've been there, or waking me up.

I also was worried about the ack of mousekeeping- but as it turned out we didn't miss it a bit. DH and I went back to the room for an ealy nap one day and it was nice not worrying about the maid. Also it saves me $$$ on tips, I always used to leave $1-$2 per bed, each ady- now I only do that on full cleaning day, and I plan on having a few singles handy on trash and towel day.

Thanks for all the great Info. It's really nice to have somewhere to go for all the little insider tidbits. I've already learned a great deal from you all. I think I'm really going to enjoy this board.

Thanks. What a nice, friendly board you have here. LOL. I knew it would be. After all... your all a part of the Disney family. Glad I joined. I'm going back to Disney in Dec. and hope to have a list made up when we visit the DVC folks. It seems that everyone I've talked to just loves theirs. That's good to know. We usually go twice a year. A few friends said that we should look into getting a DVC. Seems like it more than pays for itself in a few years. I talked to Linda at DVC (she's very nice) and she suggested we get 200 pts to start. We usually go five nights at a time from Fri. to Wed. Does that seem like the right amount?

The amount you need depends a lot on the time of year, unit size and resort so it is hard to say. However- if you are making 5 night trips that are long weekends- you don't get nearly the same bang for your buck as you would if you made 5 night trips that fell Sun-Fri. Fri and Sat nights are really high on points.

I think you should rent points and give it a try - I'm not sure DVC is right for you.

DVC is very cool - but it isn't conceirge level at a Deluxe hotel. You strike me as someone who may miss having new towels and your bed made every day and who may notice the difference in upkeep between the Deluxes and DVC rooms.

Not having housekeeping was the one thing we kept coming back to when we were considering buying DVC. Everyone kept saying they preferred it that way, and you what..it's true! We bought and stayed in our new home away from home in April and it was fantastic. We did love not having anyone coming in, and what we gained with all the extras far out weighted it anyway....so much space, fantastic accomodations, beautiful furnishings, kitchen supplies, washer and dryer. You will LOVE it!!:cool1:

Oh, one more thing..there's just something special about owning a piece of that Disney magic! Thats the best part:thumbsup2
