Thinking about changing my Vacation Days from Early Feb to 2nd week of August 2026

ok, so based on what I have seen here :

1. second week of June: milder weather than August (although sometimes it could be as hot/miserable as August), less rain/storms , but crowds will be WAY worse

2. Second week of June: Weather will be probably worse (hotter, more chances of rain/storm), but crowds will be way BETTER (low crowds.

Did I get that right? based on what I see here, August might be a better option if we can manage weather

I have a friend whose parents live in the Villages and because she works in a school district, she spends most of her school breaks in FL, she finds the weather in February to be the most unpredictable. I think if you go in to August knowing it will be hot, and time a midday TS lunch for the heat of the day the lower crowds might be a good trade. I've been in August (although not recently) and it was hot, but I knew it was going to be hot. So it didn't bother me terribly...I'd prefer to deal with the hotter than the surface of the sun, melt my skin off heat than the chilly swamp that might happen in February.

I think the driving factor here is your child's school schedule. I wouldn't pull my kids out of school for an entire week for a trip. Their schools have a rigorous curriculum and they would miss too much and become stressed. We travel when the kids are out of school. (unless it is one day here or there). And yes that means we travel the busiest weeks of the year (I'm looking at you Easter week and President's week) but what can you do?...

That being said, we had the best trip and most beautiful weather in April at Disney this year!

We go in august every year. It’s lower crowds if you can tolerate the heat. Take a midday break, and drink preemptive Gatorade. DD hates missing school because it’s so hard to catch up. Missing a week of algebra 2 is pretty rough since the class will have moved on to the next concept. Disney is more fun when there’s no homework to do during breaks.

Once our kids were in 9th grade, we stopped taking them out of school for WDW. We learned to love July and August trips even with the heat. The crowds were much less than in May or November when we used to go, and we loved the later park hours. Another advantage for a summer trip was the time spent at the hotel pool and water parks. There are pros and cons for every month at Disney, in my opinion!

I'd say to try June if that works best for you and then do something different the following year if it doesn't work so well. There's no guarantee of the weather any time of year anymore, imo. DH and I went in early June last year and it was 100 degrees, feel like 110 just about every day we were there. We got to the parks in the a.m. and stayed in the room in the afternoon - we went to the pool once - and then went back to the park. We walked slower and did what we could. Luckily, it was just the two of us, so we just did what we wanted/could with the weather. We've done summer many times with kids through the years but it is miserable and not much cooler in the evenings. I'm terrified of lightning and we've experience some pretty bad storms and have had to wait for them to clear in a gift shop.
My kids are in their 30s now but we took them out of school for Disney trips, even in high school. They are fine.

You already pretty much stated the priority here is your kid's math class. Settle that question first since it is the only one that truly matters. Can you talk to the teacher that runs this math program? They are going to be your best source on whether or not this is advisable and just how much of a work load he will be looking at with the class. If not maybe talk to his current teacher and find out their opinion on what he's going to be facing.

June will be hot, June will be wet. July and August will be hotter. All of it is during hurricane/storm season. Welcome to summer in FL. (The boards have tons of recommendations for dealing with rain and heat!)

I've been in August a handful of times - toward the end of August. Crowds were very manageable. Airfare also tends to be cheaper, in my experience. It is terribly humid so you do have to plan for breaks. Go early in the morning and back out at night. All the regular tricks. Indoor experiences, etc.

I'm thinking of planning a last minute trip this year just to do some Halloween stuff and resort/pool stuff before school starts. They have some nice hotel deals.

They haven't announced the Halloween party dates, but usually it's the first full week of August or thereabouts.

For us, the key consideration would be how our family handles the heat. And it’s not good . June is hot (with more of the common pm thunderstorms) and we would be miserable (even with adapting as best as possible). Not sure how frequently you go but as the kids get older it won’t get any easier to miss school. I would go February providing your 12 yo son is ok with it.

We never pulled our kids out of school for more than two days. They miss too much. We have gone to WDW towards the end of August, and it has always been low crowds. It has also been hot and humid but not necessarily rainy. We have been lucky to get lots of rain free time.

But it is hot and we needed to plan on spending plenty of time in air-conditioned places, like shows and restaurants.

One option you have not mentioned yet: Do the kids have a spring break in common? Ours did for many years, and that was often when we would go. It is more expensive and more crowded than early February, but the weather is still lovely. I know how to avoid crowds. I don't know how to avoid heat.

And, along those lines, I would pick June instead of August, because the weather would be marginally more tolerable, and there are things I can do to deal with crowds. It's not just the heat/humidity--August is also wetter, though it's not a huge difference.

our spring break is exactly on the most expensive week for DVC It would cost my almost twice to move my booking from Feb to spring break in terms of DVC points, so that is out of question lol, plus the crowd .

The main question is whether I should pick June or August, but I personally I am leaning towards august due to better crowds and possibility of attending MNSSHP for the first time.
