Thinking about changing from Poly to POR & bummed

We had originally booked POR for our late Jan trip & then decided it would be worth it to stay at Poly this time. We have stayed at POR 2 other times & although I like the resort, I wanted to be in a more "tropical" themed resort since it may be chilly in Jan. There are 5 of us & so that eliminates the other moderates. We want a water slide so that eliminates FW Cabins too. Anyways, just had some unexpected major home repairs & now my DH is saying we should change our reservations back to POR (It is a $1000 less for 6 nights we are there using the code) he even said we really shouldn't be going. I am so bummed. Tell me that it doesn't really matter which resort we are in & we will have a great time anyways. I was just dreaming about lounging on the beach with kids in jammies watching electric water parade & drinking some tropical drink. I also suggested changing resorts mid vacation but he only wants to stay in 1 place. Tell me what you think.

It really doesn't matter which resort you stay at, and you will have fun anyway. As you say, it's likely to be chilly, so how much of that water slide will you enjoy anyway? Take some of the savings and improve your dining experience. Go to O'Hanas and pretend you are staying at the Poly. If hubby is saying you shouldn't go at all... COMPROMISE! It would be so much better than not going at all.

Honestly, I stayed at the Poly and though it was nice, I didn't find it exceptionally nice. Sure, rooms are bigger than POR but I wasn't super impressed, consider the extra expense over POR. We are staying at POFQ this December and really excited about it. We are saving a few dollars that we'll get to spend elsewhere. Remember, you are still at WDW.

I love the Poly when I have the money which is about once every 2 years. Guess where I stay when I don't have the "Poly money"? I stay at POR - I LOOOOVE it! I would rather stay there than anywhere else on property (besides the poly).:sunny: Yeah, the poly is nice but I love POR just as much - when we stay in the AB, my 10 year old and I pretend he is Tom Sawyer - we have a blast!!:D

When life hands you some curves...flexibility can really come in handy....if it were me...here's what I would be thinking..

a. Can you move your trip back? Would March be doable? January is not very great swimming weather for Orlando..even with heated pools.

b. Maybe take a shorter trip...don't know how many days you're going but I know how ya get an idea in your head (Poly) and any wrong thing that happens you'll think it would have been better if you'd been at the Poly...could you go 5 days instead of 6 or 7? Or even 4 nights?

c. I've never stayed at POR...while I did enjoy the Poly...I would say if my expectations were a 10 then it hit about a 7...most of which was built around the convenience of the monorail, the beautiful lush scenery and the love my kids had for the slide and pool area.

d. Why not compromise and go for the Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club or Yacht Club? They're generally $60-$80 less than the Poly but still give you many of the same amenities of the deluxes....keep in mind the big slide for YC/BC will be closed in January.

e. Let us know what you decide! :)

choose a different moderate?

You'll still have the excite of someplace new, without the extra cost?

Why not try CBR for the beach-y feel?

Thanks for all of your encouragement. I know we don't spend tons of time in resort anyways so guess that isn't really what matters most. We can't change the dates of our trip without severe penealty with our plane tickets. We have 3 kids so another moderate isn't an option & with codes, Poly was cheaper than other deluxes. That is also the week where there is a huge huge convention at Swan/Dolphin so they were booked. After sleeping on it, I have thought about all of the positives that I was originally psyched about for POR (the boatride, the singer in the lounge, my kids loved the food court). It will be a great trip & I won't be sick about all of the extra money we are spending on lodging. Thanks & happy planning to you all!!!

Nobody needs to say it.

You said it for yourself. :)

Well I like both of the resorts. That's our choice for our upcoming trip. Poly & pors. ;) Switching half way.

But if you can't switch. I agree maybe try out CBR, its tropical and very nice. same $$ as POrs. OR have you tried the WL? Its a little more economical that POLY? But still near the MK? Also a try would be the CR gardens, these rooms are usually a good buy, and cheaper than the POLY. You could play with the price wizard on www.disneyworld.com that's my favorite toy. ;) But I get in a bit of trouble :earseek: sometimes with my eyes being too big. :teeth:

In any event, Your STILL GOING TO WDW!!!!!!::yes:: :hyper: :sunny: Now that's something. I know, we were close to cancelling our whole trip, as it was, I wound up cancelling a cruise    but we still get to go to wdw :D ::yes:: So hang in there, The PO-RS is a great resort and you will be thrilled once your there. :yo-yo: ::MickeyMo

MKY princess: Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. Again, we would love to try a different moderate but have 5 of us so that makes it more difficult. Also, we have stayed at WL & loved it but for 5 ppl, you need a special type of room that is much more expensive than the Poly. Now I am praying that DH doesn't just cancel the trip. I don't think I can stand the disappointment. POR is looking awesome when thinking we may not even be able to go.
