Think I'm going to cry soon - Update on DS condition following hospital visit

thanks everyone for your well wishes.

had an awful day yesterday. Took DS to the GP who referred him straight to the hospital. We spent 8 hours there having with DS having various tests (blood, x-rays, physical examinations). We had to wait for the orthopedic surgeon to finish in theatre (hence we were there so long) as they needed him to check the x-rays.

DS has 'irritable hip' (transient synovitis). The diagnosis is made by exclusion of more serious conditions such as Perthes, bone infection and other stuff that I can't remember. It's apparently more common in boys than girls, affects children between the ages of 2-10 (average age 6) and often follows a viral infection. Treatment is ibuprofen for pain and bed rest and takes 1-2 weeks before symptoms spontaneously disappear. The doctor last night said that Florida would be fine (swimming would be great for him when we get there) although he might still be a little slow and might still need pain relief.

It's probable that DS will suffer again at some point but he will eventually grow out of it. So relieved that we know what it is but my little soldier is in such pain it's hard to bear.

DH has a third interview lined up for Thursday which we're currently pinning all our hopes on. He got refused a brilliant job because they felt he lived too far out of London and didn't like the thought of him coming on the train! Feel a bit cross because they knew where he lived before he went for the interviews and our town is on the mainline to Waterloo with approx half of the working population heading into London every day.

With luck like ours you have to try to believe that something will change soon!

Your poor little DS but at least you know and that's half the battle won.

That is absolutely disgraceful about your DH and i'm sure that must be illegal, that's discrimination! I commute in to London everyday.

Fingers crossed for the upcoming interview.

Budget or not I am sure you will have a fantastic time - in fact I have often found that the holidays were we have had little expectation have turned out to be the best ones.
I find it really difficult sometimes to see someone who has done everything right, saved hard and then - through no fault of their own - finds life throwing them a curve ball or two. While all the time there are people out there who are constantly taking what they are not entitled to, living off my hard earned taxes and enjoying the life of riley as a result.
I hope your kids get well really soon and I have my fingers well and truly crossed for your DHs interview.

Right on Kenny :thumbsup2

As others have stated Louise a holiday on a budget can still be a wonderful experience

Your deserve a fab holiday so make sure you get one:goodvibes

That employer is well out of line and your DH can take them to tribunal as that is not a valid reason not to appoint if he met the criteria, i just hope the other job interview go well.

Good news for r son
Go and pack now and enjoy your holiday

Just wanted to wish your dh good luck for his interview today xxxx

thanks, we're all a bit tense today although DS is beginning to walk a bit easier. We phoned the insurance company and after a bit of discussion they added it as a pre-exisiting condition for £4.45. They had to Google it first before they agreed that it was no where near as serious as a dislocated hip which was the category they said it came under!

And just to add to our current run of bad luck, the hottest day of the year yesterday and the air conditioning on the car packed up - can't afford to have it investigated so it's windows down (at least it's raining today so it shouldn't be a problem!)

I don't think I'll be buying a lottery ticket this week.

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck  I hope things improve quickly, just keep thinking that in 5 days we will all be on that flight!! I know how you feel, moving house has cost us so much money and DH's job is not permanent and so we will be on a budget there as well, still better to be there than not at all :cool1:

:wizard: Good luck to your DH today, I hope the interview goes well :wizard::wizard:

So glad that your DS is walking easier today too :)

What a shame you're all suffering and even though you have less spending money I think this holiday is EXACTLY what you all need right now.

Deal with the problems when you get back!

I hope it all works out for you guys

And so we wait - DH thinks interview went well but he doesn't know if they were seeing anyone else for this 4th stage or not. Hopefully we'll have news later today but they did say it might be Monday by the time everyone's got together to have the discussion.
