I just posted on something on another thread, and it got me to wondering.....how many things have you done, or restaurants you've tried because of hearing about it on the Podcast, or on the DIS boards?

For me, I tried Earl of Sandwich for the first time this year...I've always passed it by, never being interested. But after hearing about it on the Podcast, and reading many posts....I decided to try it. Wow...it's now my new favorite. A couple of days later, I went back to DTD again, this time with my sister and we both ate there (she's a Florida resident and never tried it either)...it was awesome.

Another is taking a Cruise...now I'm hooked

Anyone else?

Earl of sandwich
This yr we will be trying the food and wine classic
Mnsshp.... Never had any interest before hearing their reviews

Pretty Generic: Dole Whip

It was when I first started listening a couple years ago, and I think it was around the time of a Bob Varley memorial show.

I've also gone against the podcast's reviews, mainly Kevin's, and regretted it dearly. I did the Contempo Cafe and the food was terrible. I also felt like I was indeed waiting for Grandma's results while eating. Never again!

I've tried a ton of things because of the DIS. Other opinions matter, but I fully understand going into anything because of someone else's opinion doesn't mean it's what I'm going to experience. Experiences vary at WDW for a lot of reasons. Different days mean different experiences.

Probably the biggest thing I've tried because of the DIS is getting into shape. I'm in the best shape of my life because of the DIS and other friends who I've met through this site. It's been a godsend and has allowed me to live to my potential. There isn't a day that goes by where I'm not grateful for how the DIS and my friends have transformed me into a better person. They say people come in and out of your life for certain reasons, but I'm very hopeful the DIS and my friendships I've made through the DIS are lifelong friends of mine.

I'd say some were suggestions from food reviews on the Restaurants board. I knew as soon as I saw RobertP post pics of his burger at The Fountain at the Dolphin, I wanted to try it. He was right. It's now on my list as the best place to get burgers within Disney property. :thumbsup2

It's hard to keep track of all the useful info I've read about over the years.

Disney-related:

Behind the Seeds tour
Dole Whips
Free Dining (the first year it was offered)
getting discounts by watching for offers on the DIS and other sites
MNSSHP
touring plans
making our own autograph books
DIS Unplugged

General:

CROCS!
Pei Wei
BodyGlide
Everyday Minerals makeup
Priceline and Hotwire for hotel stays
KidzEyes for DD to make some $$

I'm sure there are more- I quote something I've heard about or discussed on these boards at least once a day, seems like. :thumbsup2

Many, many things over the years. Everything from money saving tips from the budget board to Kevins dining reviews, and now information from the Wedding Board as I plan our 40th wedding anniversary.

Dinning in particular though, because of Kevins reviews we finally tried The Brown Derby and Narcoose's, they are now 2 of our favorites. Before Kevin's review, DH and I thought they would stuffy, nose in the air type places...nothing could be further from the truth.

Because of the DIS,

- I changed our first visit to an onsite trip, because I never really realized it can be affordable to stay onsite!

- I picked the right ADR time to ensure we were able to watch the fireworks from the Poly Beach after our Ohana Dinner. :wizard:

- Our family participated in GAD, which we used for fast passes and had almost no waits our entire trip!

- My kids did the Pirates League and loved it!

- Our first family trip was so awesome, and I can't wait to go back, thanks to everyone on the DIS! :thumbsup2

Crocs, Tonga toast, dole whips, resort hopping via the monorail, walking to the other All-Stars from ASMu, Downtown Disney, the key under the mat @ muppets, school bread, beaver tails, kaki gori, F&W festival. . . just to name a few of the good tips.
By far the most memorable tip was from the budget board. After searching for naptha soap I attempted to make my own laundry detergent. . .will NEVER do that again! I get lots of great tips from the budget board but I think I'll stick to Gain from now on.

I became a runner because of the DIS. I read someone's PTR about training for the Disney 1/2 Marathon about 15 months ago and decided that I could do it, too. I couldn't even run a mile at that time. I've now run two 1/2 marathons and I signed up for the full marathon at Disney in January, 2012. I've made a huge lifestyle change for the better!!! I had tried to make fitness a part of my life several times without any success. If it weren't for the DIS, I probably would still be a couch-potato.

There are many, many Disney-related things too! My kids did the Albatross Cruise last year and loved it. Many of the restaurants we love, we first heard about from here. We're going on our first cruise in October (without kids) and then again in June (Podcast Cruise with kids). We've used Kids Nite Out several times. The list goes on and on!

There is so much from The Dis and the podcast.

We have a Maclaren Stroller, wear crocs, have used ear planes. We chose to stay at the Caribbean beach because of Pete's review. We rented from Orlando stroller rentals for our last trip based on the reviews here. I have a ipad because of what I have heard about them here. ( I did want one and Pete talking about it just sealed the deal)
Oh and there is a ABD trip coming up too.....

Many things. Those that come immediately to mind:
Celebration Town Tavern
Segway tour
Delish Bakery
Trails End Buffet
Wishes Cruise
Cruising with 400+ of my closest friends
