Things you see driving around your neighborhood.

Lots of motorcades, presidential and otherwise.

Lots of filming of movies, tv, etc.

The most singular to NYC thing you can see I think is the cops moving cars around. They drive caravans of like 20+ squad cars, plus ESU vehicles, vans, etc., all with the lights going (not sirens), go up and down highways, avenues sometimes, etc. It's a bit weird looking - like a disturbing yet festive parade.
I can remember being in NYC one time near 5th & 55th when the Disney Store used to be down there and the biggest, loudest motorcade I ever saw went flying by. There were cops, big black SUVs, motorcycles. Later when I got home I heard that Princess Diana had been in NYC that day, so I assume it was her motorcade.

My thing about motorcades has always been "Why draw so much attention to yourself?". if you have someone in one of the cars who is so famous/important that they quailfy for a motorcade, don't you think you'd want to just sort of go along instead of blaring "HERE'S THE FAMOUS PERSON RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!!! LOOK!!!!!!!!! HERE THEY ARE!!!!!!!! IF YOU WANT TO GET A SHOT AT THEM, HERE THEY ARE RIGHT HERE!!!!!".

It seems to me that a couple of black SUVs travelling 'together' would be a lot less obstrusive that all the commotion I saw that day.

Not really my neighborhood, but about 30 miles down the road, we have a tendency of seeing the Big Banana Car.

There is also a man we see occasionally riding around town on his bicycle towing a wagon that has a cage with an iguana in it.

I see your point but the thing is in most places people who end up with that kind of motorcade often are (big cities on trips for show), if they don't do that, it's easier to get at them - and they'll never get anyplace on time.

I was held up while walking the other day by Obama's motorcade (they often shut the intersections by where it's pulling into or out of so that it can do so without waiting for the light). If he hadn't had the motorcade, he might still be stuck in midtown. ;)

His schedule isn't a secret, it's released to the media daily - so if someone wanted to get him and he was in an SUV waiting for a light... :confused3

I work on a military installation-i regually see things that would freak people who worked at the bank down town out. Its common to see squads of soldiers in "full battle rattle" in the parking lot of our building. Some years ago i looked out the window of my office to discover my building was the objective of an assult. And the best one-littler PT-six guys carrying a 7th on a stretcher-only the 'victim' was sitting up cross legged, smoking a cigarette, drinking a pepsi and cheerfully waving at passing cars-at 630 in the morning-in December-in Colorado.

There are lots of intersting things to see on post.:lmao:

DH's unit had a family PT day(boy was I glad to wake up at 4:30:rolleyes1). There were little kids running around everywhere with the soldiers and the wives following behind with their coffee!:rotfl:

In my small town, I have seen this little beauty parked all over the place downtown. Don't know why....but it makes me laugh every time I see it.

well, not QUITE in the neighborhood, but, on the way to DD15's band competition yesterday, on the highway about 10 miles from home, we saw a guy walking along with his bicycle, and he was wearing a superman cape! lol

Do you happen to live near a Six Flags amusement park? We live just up the road from Six Flags New England and we actually see this A LOT!

Boy you guys have interesting neighborhoods. And don't flame me please! but the most interesting thing is when the city home residents across the street start having issues. I know its not funny and i don't mean it to be, but it is attention grabbing. One time a poor woman didn't want to leave and she took off all her clothes on the front lawn. Another time another resident did want to go wherever it is they go each day and " ran away". THe workers were yelling and yelling at him to come back. He did... from the other direction literally draggin himself by the back of the collar down the block. It was comical to see that.
As far as whats driving around... boom boxes with wheels.... : (

Lots and lots of golf carts crossing all through town. Can't remember the number of golf courses in town, but it's huge. Certain times of the year we see television vans, tourists when filming a golf game. Helicopters overhead morning, noon and night are a common thing here. It's a large trauma center.

You're right. I never thought of that....

My area, mostly animals that the city people won't have seen so often.

Fox on the lawn of the hospital. A few deer eating from the crab apple trees next to the lawn. The bear at summer camp (also common in friends lawns). A small fawn laying in the grass near the river next to school (we were down there for a science project). Moose swimming across the lake. Cows that got out of their pasture in the road. That sort of thing.

Wow... my neighborhood is so boring! :rotfl2:

The most interesting thing I've seen is a lady who takes her cat for a walk in a pet stroller. :rotfl2:

I guess I shouldn't judge, though. After all my DD7 ties a jumprope onto DH's old Tonka truck and drags it up and down the sidewalk. Yeah, that kid really needs a dog. :rotfl:

Occasionally I'll see a guy driving his El Camino with a Unicorn sitting on it's top.

There used to a lady that had an older model car with dolls heads all glued to the outside of it. Creepy. Haven't seen it in a few years, so either the car died or she moved.

We have one neighbor who takes his John Deere mower to the store on a pretty regular basis.

Another drives the most adorable little car, a lemon yellow VW Bug with a big ol' smiley face on the hood. Never fails to make me smile.

Then there's the neighborhood redneck... He flies a Confederate flag off the back of his pick-up truck, which isn't exactly a common sight a thousand miles north of Dixie.

Aside from that it is pretty small town USA. We get the occasional turkey or deer that gets lost enough to make it into town but they mostly stick to the farmland of the townships, and when the town has parades there's the spectacle of the antique tractor club tooling down the road to/from the parking lot where they keep their trailers. We moved in over 4th of July weekend and seeing 50+ tractors, some a century old, driving along our street had me wondering exactly what sort of town we'd moved to! :rotfl:

Thought of another one... There is a major road here where at certain times of year traffic can back up rather badly because of turtles crossing from the marsh on one side to the bay on the other. There are even turtle crossing signs posted. That's something I suppose you don't see everywhere.

Not sure why, but we see hot air balloons on a regular basis. Sometimes 4 or 5 at once. Some of them have flown right over our house to the point that you could tell the people inside were wearing eyeglasses. We wave and they wave back. :rotfl: We also see a lot of military aircraft because we live about 20 minutes south of Wright-Patterson AFB. Sometimes we will the see the Wright B Flyer fly over the house as we are just down the road from the airport where it is stored. Little planes are everywhere here. :goodvibes

This is one of the more interesting things I see around the area

Well, we have had a wild hog, a bear, numerous deer, fox and raccoon and buffalo! a neighbor had the two buffalo that apparently did not understand the concept of the fence actually keeping them IN! :rotfl:

We used to have a guy I called "Redman"" because he would walk literally ALL over town dressed entirely in red. In the summer red t-shirt, shorts, socks, sneakers. In the winter red hat, jacket, sweat pants, and boots or sneakers (depending on the weather). He would also be talking to himself....this is a while back before the days where people were using wireless devices to talk on their cellphones so they intially appeared to be talking to themselves. I haven't seen him in a while.

When i lived in Pensacola, there was a woman in white who walked all over town in all white- white cap, white windbreaker, white pants, white sneakers with white laces. Even in the summer with the windbreaker.

Now my neighborhood if pretty normal. But... about a half mile from my neighborhood, you are in the middle of an oilfield in the middle of this semi-residential area. So every few months you'll see a sign up, "Drive with caution, rig move in progress."

Mostly just people doing unsignaled u-turns in the middle of 4-way stop intersections -- driving here can get interesting.

As to the SUV's, I'm guessing that whoever tried to run between them was from out of town. Motorcades really are not that common in most of the rest of the country (except near college football stadiums on game days, ;))

Things are pretty normal around here. On the outskirts, I will sometimes run into a big piece of farm equipment on the road. There is lots of wildlife nearby since we live very close to a lake. Deer, turkeys, skunks, raccoons, and neighborhood rabbits who live under our bushes.

The closest sighting was a opossum that was on top of our 6 ft privacy fence in the middle of the night. He was having a stare down with our choc. lab when I opened the door to call in the dog. Thankfully he eventually ran off around the fence to another house and Pete came inside alone!

In our (red)neck of the woods, we have wildlife. Lots of deer out right now. We also see racoons, porcupines, wild turkeys, skunks, black bears, and there is currently a moose that has been spotted around town within the past week.

The most popular method of transportation seems to be ATV's/4x4's/Side by Sides. You'll see them at the store, at school, restaurants, etc. And people just drive them down the road like it's perfectly normal. :rotfl:

The funniest thing going on right now is that at our local Walmart we have a fox that hangs out in our parking lot. The employees have dog bones in the break room and feed them to it when the fox comes out at night. A couple weeks ago one employee left her car door open and walked away for a minute and the fox went in the car and took a bag of cherries out. Never a dull moment. :rotfl2:
