My family and I (5 and 3 year old kids) are going on the Magic next weekend. We are staying at the Hyatt MCO the day before. We get in around noon so will have half a day to kill. I don't think we will have the time/energy to hit a park, but wanted to see if there any fun but short activities in Orlando we should check out. Right now our plan is just to hit up the pool and hang out at the hotel, but I wanted to make sure we aren't missing out on anything.

Also, are there any good dinner recommendations for our family? I know the Hyatt has two restaurants but I'm not sure if they are kid appropriate. We won't have a car but I assume cabs/Uber are doable around Orlando if we decide to venture out.

Thanks!

There are lots of restaurants on Semoran Blvd/436 right by the entrance of the airport. You will need to Uber or taxi. It's not possible to walk.
Chuy's is my favorite

But there is just about every chain restaurant you would like. Bonefish, Carrabbas, Panara, Outback and Cracker Barrel.
They have just opened a new movie theater in that area also. It has the reallynice reclining seats. Epic theaters at Lee Vista

We did this in New York it was very fun.

Also lots of Outlet malls

When we visited New York and Seattle for a Disney cruise we did City Passes and saved a lot on area attractions, Here are some links to Orlando City passes. I haven't used these.

Are you on the May 1st trip? Our guilty pleasure in Orlando is Waffle House because we don't have them here!

I would just relax at the hotel pool. Lots of good restaurants at mco airport.

Other than restaurants, there is not a lot to do in the immediate area of the airport. There are a lot of options in the airport for eating and many shopping opportunities, so unless you want a chain restaurant not offered in the airport, there is not much motivation to leave.

We are. We have Waffel House here but I hope you enjoy it.

We are in the same cruise then! How exciting. Isn't it weird the food you crave when you go to another state that has what you don't? We have always found plenty of options in Orlando, but we always have a rental car so I cannot weigh in on accessibility.

Uber is not allowed to pic up at OIA but they can bring you back

Also, the Florida Mall is down the street from the airport (not walkable, but a short taxi ride).

I would say 15 min or so depending on traffic. We never go there anymore since Saks left. Mall at millennia is nicer and has a better selection of stores in my opinion.

I might also recommend Gatorland, it's not far from the airport and a nice place for a few hours when you only have a short amount of time. obviously, they have lots of alligators, also a nice small petting zoo and other animal exhibits.
