I'm looking for ideas of things to do after work next week. I'll be in the Dallas/Irving area. I'm not into bars or clubs so I'm wondering if there's any ideas you guys have. I went out for a week in March. Did lots of resting at the hotel and shopping. Randomly came across a traveling Disney outlet - OMG! Any restaurant ideas that aren't chains and I wouldn't feel like a geek by myself? Any sightseeing available after 5pm? What's the movie theater in that area? popcorn::

TIA!

Dallas/Irving covers a wide area, and I am not sure how far you are willing to drive.

I am not into clubs, either. Here's a few suggestions off the top of my list:
1) The Angelica (Angelika, maybe) theatre. This is a really neat movie theater that shows a LOT of independent and hard to find films. You can also order food and alcoholic beverages to take in the theater. It makes for a really nice, different evening.

2) Stonebriar Centre in Frisco. Yes, it really is just another mall, but it is probably the nicest one in the area, with a lot of cool stores. It is definitely a way to spend an evening.

3) Dallas has a pretty lively theatre scene. I am not sure when you are going to be here, but Dallas Summer Musicals has a lot going on this summer, and there are NUMEROUS plays in smaller theatres around the area. You could just google Dallas theatre and come up with a LOT to do.

4) The Texas Rangers play not too far from there (about a 30 minute drive). You could go to Arlington and catch a game. There is a REALLY good "hole in the wall" pizza place on Fielder and Randol Mill in Arlington called, "Mama's Pizza". It's a dive, but the pizza is truly incredible!!!

5) In Grapevine, there is an outlet mall (Grapevine Mills) that is HUGE. It is definitely a great way to kill an evening. They also have an AMC theatre that either has 24 or 30 screens....I do not remember which.

6) If you are here on a weekend, there is Trader Joe's Market in Grand Prarie. It is an open-air flea market that sells everything imaginable, and then some.

7) If you want REALLY good Tex-Mex, trek over to Lewisville and go eat at Angelina's. Again....a hole in the wall, but super good, authentic Tex-Mex.

If I can think of anything else, I will be sure to let you know!!!!

I'll be there next week - 8th through 12th.

Thanks Beca! I'm going to check into a few of those.

Any interest in driving to Fort Worth? It'd be less than 30 minutes typically in the evenings. Downtown Fort Worth has Sundance Square with some great restaurants, a nice movie theatre, improv show, good jazz lounge, dueling piano bar, outdoor music, etc. It's a nice safe place to hang out in the evenings with free parking. They have a website (sundancesquare.com I think?) This would esp be a good place to spend a Thurs night. 8.0 is tasty with live music outside. Reata is higher end but very Texas and very good. Pirahna Killer Sushi is a favorite.

North Park Mall is still my very favorite mall in Dallas; it's the largest privately owned mall and has amazing art pieces throughout that are owned by the owners. They recently expanded and it's HUGE.

Catching a Rangers game is a good idea. Mama's Pizza is tasty - it's a Fort Worth original that has added locations in other parts of the metroplex.

There are various Studio Movie Grills located through the metroplex that are nice places to see a movie and have a meal.

ITA!!! Sundance square is a lot of fun!!! And, they usually have some pretty good theatre going on there as well!! TCU is reviving the Trinity Shakespeare Festival opening that week with Romeo & Juliet, and Twelfth Night. Unfortunately, it is no longer out doors (which is a TOTAL bummer...it used to be like a renaissance fair with really good theatre), but it still should be pretty good. You can find more info on it at TCU's website.

And.....if you make it all the way over to Ft. Worth....you should definitely go eat at Dos Gringos!!! It is another Texas original!! You will never have chips, salsa, and queso even close to this good anywhere else!! The salsa is served hot off the stove, and is so good, I swear I could eat it as a soup!!

If I can think of anything else, I will get back on here!! Have fun, and enjoy your trip!!!
