Now that I don't have to rush to the Port, what are some things we can do or explore on our way from WDW to the Port? We're driving there ourselves. Don't want to spend a ton of money or do an all day thing, but just wondering if there are some interesting shops or sites. Thanks!

Literally speaking, there is nothing between WDW and the Port!! It's all swamp! However, very near Port Canaveral is Kennedy Space Center, which is worth a visit. Here's their web site: www.ksc.nasa.gov/

Cocoa Beach is also not far from Port, and there are a few surf shops along the main strip. There's Ron Jon's Surf Shop. They have fun clothes, gifts and sun/surf gear. It just depends on what you're interested in. But like MHDTS said, there really isn't anything between Orlando and the Port.

Downtown Cocoa and the historic district is very nice. Completely worth a visit.

But you will be traveling in the morning right? Not much time to do anything if you want to get to the port by 10 am.

If you are talking about a day early, then by all means please go to my favorite, favorite place in all the world - Crab Heaven (typical crab shack with paper on the tables, cold beer in the glass).

You can also go to the Cocoa Beach Pier and eat lunch and hang out on the beach. There is public parking right there.

Ron Jons is worth a visit too.

I totally agreed with Castlegazer - Cocoa Village is quite a unique place - there is awesome restaurants, park, ride the white horse and carriage
There are all different types of shops --you can walk to the river - there is a lot to see and do there. I also agree Ron Jon's is a neat store - if you stop by the shop, I can give you a 10% discount coupon - in Cape Canaveral, you have Manatee Park right behind Radisson's.
Hope all the advise does help in your adventure here in Brevard County
Always
Shirley

I don't have to be at the Port by ten, since I have all my ressies. Just want to take my time and see the sights.

Thanks for all the info. I'll look them up and see what best meets our needs/interests/etc.

Shirley, what time does your store open?

Stop by Cape Canaveral.

Itis rather to actually get in the musuem etc. But we just drove in, parked in the lot, looked around bit. (They have several rockets and a Space Shuttle that are right there to see without paying the entrance fee. Then head over to the port.

we will be staying at FW for 4 days prior to the cruise in a motorhome. How long will it take to get to Port?

It takes about 50 minutes to get to the port from WDW - plan on an hour and you will be golden.

As for getting in to KSC for free - just walking around the main area. I have heard that you can no longer do this. We used to do that all the time and just walk around. I just wanted to throw this out there, although I am not quite positive about it. Just be sure to check with them prior to driving over there, it is a bit of a hike from the port.
