Things MAY be getting better

I am going to be cautious, but Scaroborough just talked to the correspondent in New Orleans. She says there ARE more troops on the ground and things ARE changing for the better...of course it is already too late for many who are already dead. But I guess this is somewhat good news.

That is very good news. I figured once troops arrived these idiots would stand down knowing it would be stupid to go after them. This is why I thought they should have brought in a half dozen attack helpcopters and stuff like that and had them fly above the loading areas as a sign of force.

More good news I heard today:
1) The number of federal troops in the NO/MS area will TRIPLE tomorrow to 24,000 personnel. Included are 1,300 MPs for NO alone.

2) The NO airport is functional. The runways are now dry and the USAF has cleared them of debris and set up emergency runway lighting. They plan to operate it 24/7 for relief efforts.

3) It is also expected that the smaller levee breach will be fixed today.

Geoff_M,

That is also great news. See when people are allowed to do there jobs, things get down much quicker.

I am almost afraid to hope... every time it seems like it can't get worse it does.

I have had to boycott coverage today. I found myself crying constantly... it was really getting to me. I feel bad knowing that for others there is no escape.....

I agree things are going to improve very soon. I think people there have this impression that no one is trying to help them when it is just they had trouble figuring things out at first. i think it is just so hard for all of us to fathom what has happened and that this was just not another storm.

things will get better.

CarolA,

I know what you mean. I haven't watched like coverage since Tuesday evening, but have been following it more on the web.

With the large group of troops heading down and atleast the start of the levees getting fixed, things are starting to look up a little.

I also had to turn the tv off, after last night. I've been keeping up with the facts on the ground (via internet, and talking to people who are watching), but I just can not bear to see the visual images.

Maybe this is the turning point. I'm praying....
