Im sure DCL doesnt care if we spent close to $600 on airfare to get us to the cruise! Any chance we could get a room on WDW property for Thanksgiving weekend? I highly doubt it. So what would happen to those DVC points?

is this the terrorists?

I think it might be too late to reclaim them but call MS to find out. If you can get the cruise points back though they cannot now be used for DVC. They go into reservation status and you would need to use them at a non-DVC WDW property. You could check on the availability of rooms when you call MS.

imgoingtodisney, I realize how scary this all is! It has probably happened in the past, but know its getting alot of media because of the Holland case. When you have a large amount of people in one area it will happen when there is something going around. I am a nurse who works in long term care. We have a bad bug going around right know. It can't be helped, its the time of year. Disney is probably being extra careful and taking extra steps to make sure their cruisers don't get sick. They don't want to be the next ones on the news. Put it this way, when the West Nile Virus was running ramped in Northern Il. this year, it was scary, but we took precautions and tryed not to let it effect our time out side.

I hope you don't decide to cancel your vacation you have planned so hard and looked forward to it for so long. Take extra precautions and try to have a good time. Pixie Dust to all the Thanksgiving Cruisers, go and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they were on the news this morning here in New York on Good Day New York on Channel Five.

It's not terrorism.....terrorists like to kill...not give you the runs.....

And the Today Show had them in their 7am news...........

All I have seen is about Holland. And three percent on the disney is not that big of a outbreak. Think about it that means 97 percent are fine. Probably one percent get sick on any cruise anyhow.

My mom saw the Good Day New York segment (I didn't) and she said the Magic had to pull into Miami and let off passengers....is she confusing the Magic with the HAL ship?

I have heard nothing about the Magic having to pull into Miami on these boards...anyone know??

MJ

mmouse....I saw the Today Show segment....they didn't say anything about going to Miami. I think maybe there was confusion with the HAL bit.

Today's show on Ch 4 giving report also this am. Sounds like they have no idea what culprit is yet and are in process of investigating..... St. Thomas port, some type of food/water contamination, they did stress most likely NOT terrorism. Still very sad, a lot of sick and dissappointed people....UGH! They say to expect more excellent deals as this will really hurt the cruise industry. Also mentioned, this is another reason to have that travel insurance!

PS- I think the HAL is at port, Magic is being cleaned while afloat.

Correct..the HAL ship Amsterdam was scheduled to leave on a day day cruise this past Monday..she did not sail.

Did you purchase insurance? I was told by MS DVCer's with insurance are refunded in cash, the points are lost but the conversion to money covers the loss. Not cruising yet....but was curious about that also. So what's the formula for figuring how much your cruise is worth converted to cash? TG uses $5.00 pp. Is this right?

KenP just posted on another thread that they are currently trying to dock at CC but rain and waves are making it difficult.

Bumbles-

Your comment about the terrorists gave me my laugh for the day:jester:

Guys, take it easy. It's 60-85 people out of 3000. I spoke to DCL and asked specifically how many people would normally get sick on a cruise. They said about 50. They are being extra cautious just so that they PREVENT the problems HAL has had. It is not terrorists; just terroristic little microbes!

I'm going to close this thread as well since we already have several threads going related to the illness.
