They were checking ID's at the pool this year

I know that pool hopping has become a problem & is a real concern to some people.

Be assured that this Easter/Spring break they were definitely checking ID's. At least at the CR they were. We were there 15 days & they checked ID's 4X. Part of the trip you also had to show your ID to get a towel.

I didn't pay attention to see if anyone was asked to leave but my DH saw one family that he thought were being "talked to" & was going to have to leave.

Anyway, from what I saw they are getting a little more serious about the pool hopping issue!

Just curious.... I don't recall the id's having a hotel name on it... do they??? Or are they just checking that people are staying on-site. I guess that's better than nothing, huh?

No, they don't have a hotel name on them, but there is a code on them & each resort has a different code.

My cousin was staying at the AKL & we met up for dinner one evening. There resort ID had a different code than ours, so that is how they know whether you are staying at a particular resort or not.

? for Melsmice:

When you said they were checking for ID's, did they insist that if each of you didn't have your card with you that you go back to your room and get it? I only ever take our dd card with us to the pool because our kids are little so we are in with them the whole time, and hers doesn't have charging privileges. My dh once had his ID with him. He came back from the room, put the card in his pocket because he wasn't planning on going back in the pool. Changed his mind and forgot about the ID. We were lucky enough to find it on the bottom of the pool before someone else did. The lifeguard had already advised to go to guest services immediately if we didn't find it on an initial search. I was pretty happy we found it because guest services/check-in were incredibly busy that day.

I know that at SAB you all have to show ID's to get your wristbands, but that's not an issue for us because we won't stay at YC/BC until our kids are bigger. I'm just curious as to the extent of the requirement for ID.

Thanks,

Mary Liz

Whenever my family has been "carded," one card with the proper code has been enough. I guess we must look so dorky that none of the lifeguards thinks us capable of trying to sneak into anywhere! The only placed we have been asked to show ID is at SAB while staying at Beach Club Villas.

A nice bellman showed me how the codes work. Somewhere in that string of numbers is "09" or "04" or whatever. These identify which resort you are staying at. The lifeguards look for that.

Thanks, Colleen. I figured it should be sufficient for just the "regular" resort pools.

We were at MK yesterday and they are now checking ID to get on the resort monorail when you leave MK. I did not see them checking at TTC to get on the resort monorail there though.

They checked ID's once during our stay last Christmas when we were going to the boat to return to the WL. Frankly, I wish they'd do it more often. Crowded transportation is a lot more important to me than the silly pool hopping debate.

Besides, I never fail to have my resort ID with me when I'm at a park. To have to carry it with me to the pool is a pain in the backside.

MaryLiz - we only needed one ID for our entire party.

Also - I wish they would check ID's for all WDW resort priveleges. I am not trying to be snobbish, but I think if you are paying to stay at a Disney resort & use the amenities then it shouldn't be easy for others to take advantage of them. JMO!

The resort you are staying at is coded in the first four digits of your resort ID. They look like this:

9904 - Yacht Club
9910 - Beach Club
9911 - Port Orleans FQ
9913 - Contemporary
9915 - Port Orleans Riverside
9916 - Old Key West
9918 - All Star Music
9919 - All Star Sports
9922 - Coronado Springs
9923 - Wilderness Lodge
9926 - Polynesian
9929 - BoardWalk Inn
9968 - Fort Wilderness
9971 - Grand Floridian
9986 - Caribbean Beach

etc, etc. Feel free to add any missing ones you've stayed at. :)

There's a reason they only do it there... The Resort Monorail can get very crowded between a Magic Kingdom park exit, the Polynesian Luau ending, and a Dinner exit at the Contemporary... As such, most hosts/hostesses will screen the guests to make sure that only the appropriate people get on board.

The biggest problem that we have with the Resort Monorail is that people try and use it to get back to the TTC, instead of the Express Monorail. What they don't know is that even though the line for the Express Monorail is really long, it is still SHORTER than the time it would take using the Resort Monorail. The Express line moves 300 people every 3 minutes. The Resort Monorail will move 100 people in 5-7 minutes.

When you get too many people trying to cheat the system, it causes backups, and folks who are paying $300/night for the Grand Floridian can't get on the train because day guests are using it to get to the TTC.

Yes, I know it's a pain to get the resort ID out, but when you think of the benefits, it's totally worth it.

But would you be allowed on the Resort Monorail if you had dinner reservations at one of the monorail resorts?

I am such a Disney Dork!!! When I read this post I pulled out my photo album to look at the numbers on my key cards. Sure enough they are 9918. My boyfriend rolled his eyes quite dramatically. I'm addicted to wdw...

:p

Years back they ALWAYS checked resort ID. I had forgotten this, but this March at WDW, Mom reminded me that back in the 70's they always checked your ID before you got on a monorail or bus. We used to stay at Ft. Wilderness every summer, and even the internal buses checked. We couldn't recall when they had stopped doing this. I appreciate the effort to keep the transportation systems running smoothly. We heard that bus routes have been canceleld because of abuses (like to/from Downtown Disney) and Mom said "Well why don't they just check ID before letting people on the bus?"

Smart woman! I realize that people cheating the system forces WDW to take steps to prevent it. What I don't like is when the steps they take cause an inconvenience and a decrease in service for those of us who don't cheat.

1st off I totally agree about the monorail use and checking of the cards, especially cause we usually stay on the monorail somewhere.

BUT doesn't it say somewhere in your pass / or staying onsite privilage use of wdw transportation system? wouldn't that include the monorail or buses? What if someone at the GF wanted to go to YC for dinner and decided after mk to take bus directly to yc instead of going back to gf your not allowed on bus? Or are you saying that as long as you are staying somewhere on site you could then use the monorail / bus system?

Just wondering? MKY

I believe that all resort guests can use any transportation to other resorts. We have and had no problems in doing so.

I also believe that AP holders can use the transportation system as well.

Yes, that's how it always was. Anyone staying onsite ANYWHERE had unlimited access to all WDW transportation. As long as you stayed somewhere onsite you could get on any monorail or bus. They were careful then, and there were really not too many places TO stay onsite -- it was Polynesian, Contemporary or the campground.

Hello,

We are staying offsite this time but have dinner/lunch reservations at several Disney hotels. We will have hopper passes. I was under the impression that if you had hopper passes you could use "any" Disney transportation.

Isn't that the case? or am I wrong

Because we have to get over to the Wilderness Lodge from MK for Dinner one evening & the Contemporary from MGM the next. How do you suggest we do that without using the resort transportation so we are not breaking any rules.

Thanks.
