Has anyone had this done? Where you don't bother getting your luggage from the airport because they pick it up and take it to the resort for you? I'm not good at not being "in control" of my stuff, so I'm always worried it won't show up!! LOL Please share good experiences!

When you use DME, yes they will pick up your luggage from baggage claim and deliver it to your resort. We had a wonderful experience - all of our bags arrived in our room only 2 hours after arriving.

We used DME arriving and departing from our June trip. Everything went smoothly. Bags arrived less than 2 hours after we arrived at the hotel. And we didn't have to worry about schlepping our FIVE checked bags along in addition to herding the kids around!!!!

Definitely will use the service again! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We used this service and loved it! We arrived early so I made sure we were "park ready" on the plane. It took some planning but it sure was nice to not haul everything around the airport, bus, resort.... I think it took more than 2 hours for our luggage but we were off playing so it really did not matter. We also loved being able to check in our luggage on our return at the hotel for the same reasons. I agree, being out of touch with your things for so long can be unnerving :bitelip: but the convenience sure was nice.

We used DME on our last trip and will use it again on this next one (in two days :cool1: ) We stayed at ASMo in September and it was a very busy resort but our luggage arrived w/in two hours.

The transportation forum has lots of info about this ... check the sticky thread at the top of the board.

hth!

We too bring a carry-on with things we'll need immediately. That always means swimsuits and, because we are from Colorado, it usually means a set of lighter weight clothing. Our luggage has always arrived within a few hours of arrival. When we arrived later in the evening, we got our bags from baggage claim and took them with us - we didn't want to get them in the middle of the night. Here's a link with good information: www.buildabettermousetrip.com/dme.htm

I used DME when it first started May '05 and had a good experience with it. We used it again Sept '05, Dec '05, Jan '06, May '06, and Sept '06. We have no complaints with it. It's great! I'll be using it again in 8 days. :cool1: I've always carried a carry on with at least one day's worth of clothes, but thus far haven't needed it. I check into the resort, my room's always been ready, so I drop the carry on off in the room, catch the bus to a park, and when we return that night our bags are in the room waiting for us. What's not to like?

On our last morning we check our bags in at the DME desk at the resort, they print our boarding passes, we're off to the parks, coming back just in time to catch the DME bus to the airport. We walk through the airport with no bags and our luggage is waiting for us when we get to our home airport. Again, what's not to like?

We've used it six times thus far and have never had a problem. It's a great service.

Okay, that's kinda what worries me. We'll be ready to head off to the park as soon as we get there, but that means that if we don't want to wait around for our luggage, everything we'll want to take with us or wear will have to be with us for carry-on!!?! With 7 of us, baby included, that's kind of going to be a pain (especially clothes-wise...coming from a COLD pacific NW state LOL). Oh well, I guess.

We're coming from the cold NW too. Just curious...are you taking a red-eye to get there in time for parktime? We're getting up at 4 am to get there at 5 pm Eastern, so we'll just be checking in and exploring the resort that first night. I do need to have swimsuits, pjs and toiletries in the carry on though. We'll have 6 people, so I know how hard that is! And don't forget about the carry-on rules of 3 oz. containers, etc. :goodvibes

We're actually leaving at 7 so getting up about the same time to be able to drive to the airport and be there ahead of time and everything. Our flight gets into Orlando around 3:30. But we're going in January, so we'll be bundled up here!!!!

A suggestion someone mentioned to me once - after you arrive at the airport and before you check your bags in, stuff your heavy coat into the checked on bag. Once you arrive in FL, you won't need it right away - well, let's hope!!

I would pack things in carry ons that you may want to change into when you get there. Then you can stuff them in a locker if they are too heavy to carry - or are you checking into your room before going to the parks?

We don't have tickets for the parks on the day we arrive, so we will be packing swimsuits.

The service is called Disney's Magical Express (DME). I love it. USed it twice, totally satisfied each time.

Since you said in your OP you don't like being "not in control," I'm very surprised you don't already plan to pack a carry-on with your first 24 hours of supplies just in case the AIRLINE delays your luggage. If your airline delays your luggage and you don't have your immediate necessities in a carry-on, you will experience the ESSENCE of feeling "not in control."

Luggage is delivered to the inside of your resort room up to 3 hours later. It gets delivered whether you're in your room or not. The Bell Services people are even pre-tipped by Disney for their efforts, so it's not like you're being "cheap" if you allow your luggage to be delivered and you're not there. Disney designed it specifically so you wouldn't have to wait around for your luggage, so you can "hit the ground running" and go out and immediately begin your vacation.

The first time we used DME, we found our luggage inside our room when we returned from the pool. We obviously didn't wear our bathing suits on the airplane! We had a well-stocked carry-on.

I just simply can't imagine flying anywhere without my version of flight insurance, a well-stocked carry-on.
