They need your social security number to opt OUT of Credit Card offers?

Have your Dau do what Dznypal did. We did.

Pulled the ap out, wirte void ALL over it and send all back in their envelope.

It takes awhile but eventually they get tired of processing thier own mail:goodvibes

especially from Capital One

Finally I wrote void on the application form cut it up into small pieces

expect you could still read the address and where I wrote void

and sent it all back in "their" self addressed envelope--this way they paid the postage to get there own junk mail back

its been a long time since we got any credit card offers-- I was thinking that with the credit these places were giving out and a lot of it not getting paid back they sort of gave up--I guess not

anyways good luck

I did almost the same. I put a big X across the paper and wrote "take me off of your list" then sent it back in their prepaid envelope. It took a little while, but they all stopped!

I saw on facebook recently where someone mailed a box of (very heavy) rocks back to the CC company with their prepaid envelope taped to it. I don't know if this was legit but I'd love to try it :rotfl2:

Most likely, it's done because they want to make sure the right person is marked for opt out. If you think they can do it based on address, you would be surprised how many addresses can be written in many different ways. I live on "## W 2nd St" - this can be written four different ways. So, your opt out would fail if the address is not spelled in exactly the same way as they have in the credit report agency database. I used to work in database marketing for a cable company and was once asked to run self-provided names and addresses against our database - there was a 25% to 30% no-match rate just because of a difference in address spellings.

The only way to be certain that they are indeed opting you out is by your social security number.
