My brother just got back from a quick trip and said they don't let you go on into Main St. or Epcot - and I assume the same at the other parks - 1/2 hour early like they used to! How long have they been doing this? Is this going to continue? That's always been a big part of my strategy!! But there's no point in us getting up any earlier then we have to if we don't get to go in earlier.

I also didn't know about them taking down the big trees in front of the castle!:( (I haven't been to MK in almost 3 years) I understand the reason is visibility - but it still makes me sad.

When we were there in October they gathered everyone outside the gate and a little bit before the opening time the train came to the station with the characters and there was a nice song and dance before the park opened. Once the park opened it was everyone for themselves!

at mgm the don't let you in early, AND they stop you with a rope at the intersection where you'd turn for TOT and RNR. once they drop it, it's a free for all.....

Actually the big trees gone isn't bad. The view of the castle is so cool:earsboy:

I have never gotten into MK early and thought I was losing it. I had read where others got in and strolled down main street and couldn't figure out how they were doing it.

I know they removed the trees when they started the Wishes fireworks show. They were interfering with viewing the fireworks.

They didn't let anyone in early when we were there in November.

I assume you can still get in early with reservations for Cinderella's castle. That was our old strategy...got us up dreadfully early but SO worth it to be fed and entering the park before everyone else. Anyone know if this has changed, too?

Yes they still have early PS and let you in early for them.

Soft open or letting you in early seems to not be used any more, except possibly on very high attendance days. I have heard this is a security issue, but in all honesty I don't see how a soft open would be a weaker security position than letting large groups of people stand around at the gate.

This topic is covered in The Unofficial Guide to WDW, I think.

Debbie,

I, too, have such fond memories of strolling down Main St. before the crowds and the rush. We weren't able to get in early last June either.

It's just another reason to keep going back. Those little things you love just may not be there next time (I keep telling my DH that anyway ;) ).
