These Kids Make Me Wish You Could Curse on the DISBoards (May '11 Trip) - DONE 9/14

Sorry, faithful readers, but I hurt my back sitting (which is usually how I end up hurting myself) tonight, so I'll probably be hitting the hay early tonight. I'll try to update this report tomorrow.

See you soon!

Feel better soon.

Thanks! I woke up feeling fine this morning. I think what caused the spasm was the fact that I've been coughing horribly since Monday - the day after we returned from WDW. I never had seasonal allergies until 3-4 years ago, but since then, they're terrible. This is a really bad area for it, too. I felt GREAT in Florida

This just goes to show that I must be allergic to not being in Disney World!

Am glad to hear you are feeling better.

Being allergic to not being in Disney World - will def have to remember that one!!

Jon, glad to hear you are feeling a little better. I've hurt my back in the past when coughing and it is the worse!

Going out with hubby for dinner (our 28th wedding anniversary), but will check for an update when we get back.

Going out with hubby for dinner (our 28th wedding anniversary), but will check for an update when we get back.

Congrats!

If there's an update tonight, it'll probably be much later. I just got done resizing pictures for Day 2 - this TR business is is hard work! :)

Oh, man - another night, another lack of updates. It's been a rough weekend of coughing, nose blowing, headache enduring, shooting cardboard rockets off of air compressors, drinking, and talking Vikings football with comedians dressed in Superman costumes.

However, I will 100% guarantee that, tomorrow night, there will either be another update or another lame excuse as to why there isn't one. You've gotta like those chances!

Wow, it didn't take long for this Trip Report to get derailed, did it? Fortunately, the cold has almost subsided, the fatigue has faded, and we're back like Necco Wafers for Day 2 - our first day of real Disney fun! Bet you didn't think we'd ever get to the parks, did you? Well, for someone who doesn't want to take a cruise for fear of missing out of park days, that's utter hogwash, so here we go. Rope drop!

...or maybe not. Kristin decided that we should let the kids get some sleep, since we had a long day on Wednesday. I say "Kristin decided" because I'm just stupid enough to try to fit in as much park time as is humanly possible, if not physically smart. She is always the voice of reason in that department. Magic Kingdom has AM extra magic hours today, so we're going to try to roll in at the usual 9:00 AM time.

The wake up call rings at 6:30, and I'm up and showered. Kristin and the kids follow after, with the kids sharing a chocolate chip muffin from Rix, while Kristin and I eat our Luna and Cliff bars, respectively. Maybe I'm just granola-averse, but eating that thing was like eating a jar of peanut butter without anything to drink. I'm still picking it out of my teeth as I type this. It did fill me up, though, which I guess is all you can really ask for with pre-packaged, chocolate covered sawdust.

No refillable mug refilling for me this morning, because post-kidney-stone Kristin is steering clear of the usual unsweetened iced tea, and I'm trying to avoid caffeine in the morning on this trip. In past years, I've always felt a bit crappy in the late morning, and I'm making Cherry Coke the scapegoat. So we get everything ready to go (I even ironed, which is absurb, if you know me), and we're out the door. We only get a few pics outside the room, so you don't get the full effect of the room location (yet):

If anyone (MEK) is wondering, Kristin did NOT make Emily's dress. It's the same fabric she did use for a dress she made for her last year, but that one was too small, so she ordered this one online. I don't know offhand exactly where she ordered it from, but I can get the specifics if anyone is interested. You'll see it better in some of the later shots.

We headed to Bus Stop 1, which was the closest stop from our Cabanas room last year and as close as any of the stops from our current room (the other option would be Stop 2). As we wait for an MK bus, Dylan makes his first pin trade. The MK bus finally shows up, and it's off to the park!

We roll into Magic Kingdom around 9:00, with Kristin on her usual bag check duty, while the kids and I take the stroller through the bagless entrance. We have our Sit-and-Stand double with us again this year, since we need one seat for our 50 pound daughter and one for our 50 pound backpack. The original, laminated plan called for hitting the Rapunzel meet-and-greet at 8:30. While Kristin and the kids would wait in line, I would go get Fast Passes for Splash. After the M&G, I'd get FPs for Space Mountain. We're running a bit late, so Kristin goes on ahead to get to the Rapunzel line as quickly as possible. The kids and I are back from her, but not too far, and since she'll be securing our place in line, I pause to take a few pictures:

The last was taken right before we hit the line, which spanned so close to the castle that I couldn't see where the line started. With us now in line, Kristin runs ahead to ask a Cast Member what the anticipated wait is - something like 2 hours. Forget that! I don't care what character it is! Well, maybe I'd wait that long to meet a broom from Fantasia, but that's even a stretch. Maybe Warwick Davis on Star Wars Weekends, but only if he's dressed as the Leprechaun. Maybe Amanda Bynes, but only if she was dressed as herself. But not Rapunzel. So it's on to Plan B, which is "wing it". We walk up through Fantasyland. The back of the castle is obscured by a refurb wall (at least painted to look like the castle), which doesn't make Kristin happy. She was seriously brought down by all the refurbs around this park last year. But hold on - someone's coming out - It's Cinderella's stepsisters! And Lady Tremaine! We've met them other years, and they are the funniest characters out there. Always a riot. Kristin and the kids wait, as I run off and get our first FPs our our trip, which you may notice are NOT for the planned Splash Mountain:

IMG_4095.jpg

I also got "surprise" FPs for Philharmagic, which for once is a surprise, since we usually get those when we get FPs for Winnie the Pooh. I do still have Splash Mountain FPs that I never took out of my wallet from last year, but I need to get rid of those so we don't get confused.

The kids reach the front of the line and meet the ladies. When asked, Dylan tells them he's from Pennsylvania, to which LT says she's heard there's a chocolate kingdom in PA (Hershey). Dylan says he's not from there, but it's true. Anastasia then asks if he is the Prince of the Chocolate Kingdom, and if he'll take her there. Hilarious exchange, and we got some great pics:

Afterwards, the kids give the Sword in the Stone a go:

No luck for Emily yet, who got the sword out twice last year, much to Dylan's dismay in one of last year's funniest pictures (see last year's TR for details. PLUG!). Mary Poppins is now by the Carousel, whoever it belongs to these days, but we want to ride something, so we walk past, on our way to Frontierland.

At this point, I should mention that Kristin decided to go with the do-it-(mostly)-yourself, character-specific, clip-art autograph books this year.

IMG_5748.jpg

With the help of pages she stole - erm, copied - from the web, she had a page for almost any character you could think of. She's got pages for the regulars:

The regulars in special settings:

The countries in World Showcase:

And even a section of non-specific pages for any characters we did not necessarily expect to see:

I apologize for the photo quality. These shots were taken about 3 minutes ago in our dimly-lit basement, and it's far too late for me to care about getting them to look better.

The books turned out really nice, though, with almost 100 pages in each. Many of the characters and CMs seemed to like them, too. They weren't cheap - I would guess around $40 each to make, but then again, this trip isn't exactly about SAVING money, is it?

BTW, a VERY BIG THANKS to whoever created the Clipart pages she used. There were a ton to choose from, so if you see one of yours, pat yourself on the back for us!

Note: I was going to have a slightly humorous comment in that last paragraph, but it would only have worked if I knew if/how one can put a strikethrough on text on the DISBoards. If anyone knows how to do this, to allow for future slightly humorous comments that require strikethrough, please let me know. Thanks!

This guy can really draw out a story, can't hey? Four posts later, and we're not even at lunch yet! And what has this family done? Met some characters and got Fast Passes? Wow, that's mindblowing, man. So when do we get to the fun stuff? If the next update has anything to do with what they did on Farmville, I'm out of here.

Whoa, hold your horses, dude! We'll get there!

...but not tonight. I thought I could squeeze one more update out, but that is not to be. I will try again tomorrow. I've got the TR bug back, so hopefully that'll be enough to entice me.

Until then, thanks for reading, and please stick with us through this journey!

Love the pics of the family by the lake at CSR. And Emily's dress is very pretty.

The pictures with the Stepsisters and Stepmother. I so remember the sword and Emily getting it out twice last year and poor Dylan being distraught over it. ;)

***And the autograph books are great!

She did an amazing job with this this year....any info on where she got the clipart would be great...I fancy myself crafty and would love to make these for our 1st trip to disney with our boys in november.

thanks

Amy, I don't know if this worked or not, but I tried to copy the link of the thread that I used to make the books. I got everything right here on the DIS under: Just for Fun, The creative community, Scrapbooking, and the thread was titled 'Disney Autograph books - DIY'. They were a lot of fun to make!!

Those autograph books are wonderful! What a great idea to incorporate the World Showcase passport so it's all in one place. Can't wait to read more.

What a fun update! Looks like you arrived at the wing it plan sooner than expected but that can be such fun!!

Great family pictures at the lake. The autograph books are terrific! :worship:

Seems like they are pushing Philharmagic. I got a "magic" fast pass with a purchase at the Emporium.
