Afternoon MAYers!

Wow is it humid here today. I feel like I am in Florida in MAY!!

But no real rain to speak of yet, so I really can't complain.

Not doing much today. Just woke up early. Called Disney dining. Went to church. Made lunch. Watched the kids play in their little pool and POTC sprinkler. That's about it!

Hey Sea, any chance for a meet up Saturday 9/19 or Sun 9/20? I am going with my son Mike, 23, and he hasn't been to DL since he was 11! We are staying at Paradise Pier, and I think it will be a blast...

I'm really bummed that both HM AND SM will be closed -- I expected HM for the holiday overlay, but not Space! But Mike has never even seen DCA, and he'd probably like to have someone to ride ToT with, since you know I just don't DO that one

Here is a pictorial of some of the things we did this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, I spoke at my friend's' memorial service. He served the city of Santa Monica for over 32 years and was also a pastor for 12 years. They held the service on the lawn of city hall - the first ever in the history of Santa Monica.

A beautiful day! Perfect weather! About 250 people came.

This was a great idea...

Hey, it's me!

After the service, my wife and I hit the road north to Solvang, 115 miles away. There was a fire about 40 miles away and the smoke was coming in over the Santa Ynez Valley.

We got into Solvang around 7 pm and checked into the Holiday Inn Express.

Nice and comfortable king size bed.

After freshening up, we head over to our reservations at AJ Spurs.

I like all the neat stuff here...lots to look at!

Wife's entree - Sirloin steak, she liked it.

My entree - Filet minion, very good and tender.

Los Olivos is about 15 minutes from Solvang. We took this winding road and got out of our car...we better obey this sign!

Sea- how did the speech go? I am so glad that you and Lena were able to get away. I am thinking of you guys today with the memorial service for Lena's Mom being later on. Give Lena a hug and tell her it's from the MAYers.
Thanks for taking us on a tour of your trip. Looks like you had a great time. I especially liked the picture of the Boar's head--- it reminds me of Hawaii... ...but I'll save that story for another day. I can't believe you saw the gates to Neverland. Still such a sad story.

Hi NC! Nice weather we're having around thses parts. It was sooooooo hot yesterday. ugh. Nothing like dry AND humid... at the same time.



Oh-- hey Shelly- I keep forgetting to tell you--- my old church up there is having a fall festival with corn mazes and wagon rides and crafts and such in September. Might be something your boys would like. I'm not sure if you have to register or not.


Today... I'm doing... nothing.

One week from today, I will be the Mom to a High School student.
I'm old before my time. Lord give me strength.

I just dropped Chris off for football practice. It is so stinking hot and humid. Tomorrow they start practicing in the afternoon. It will be even hotter for them.

Hi Jo,

My message at my friend's memorial service went very well. I didn't get nervous or chocked up during the delivery. It went very smoothly.

Today, we are laying to rest Lena's mom at the cemetery at noon. This is just going to be a short 10-15 minute service. On the 29th we are going to have a memorial service at the church where we honor her life and share a few things from the family. After today's service we are going back to her mom's home and having lunch with some close friends and neighbors. I will give Lena a big Mayer hug today.

It was good to getaway for the overnight, but it was definitely not enough. Glad you like my trip to Neverland - LOL - it was very strange sight to see people coming and going all the time, taking lots of pictures, and looking at the stuff left behind. I get the feeling he is a bigger star now, than he was when he was alive. The news media around here is constantly feeding off of drama of it all and the lawyers and the family are trying to figure out ways to capitalize and make money off of it.

We are looking into finding long weekend trip somewhere before my wife goes back to teaching school.

Rainforest!!! What a fun place to go. Need to get my tail over there again. Haven't been there in almost a year, yet I walk by it almost every week. Doh!

NC- MCat goes to HS on Monday for their first "official" day of HS- and the parents get to go all day with them as well, to meet teachers and get to know their schedules. Which is okay- but dang---- ALL DAY?????
The other two start on Wed. They are not ready for it at all.

Football practice. UGH. It is so stinking hot. I remember cheerleading practice in Charleston when i was in HS- we had to get there at 6 am and break by 9am, then come back at 6 and go until 8 pm- three days a week. It was just too dang hot to do anything else.

And hot just isn't hot until you go to a game in Gainesville in the stadium there. I always told Mark-when we were first dating-- "I know hot! I've lived in Charleston my entire life!" ANd then I went to The Swamp--- (aptly named---it does indeed feel like a Swamp-) and thought I was going to spontaneously combust right there.

I don't know how the boys play with pads and all on.

Sooooooo awful.

Sounds like you plans are coming along for your getaway to GWL. You'll HAVE to give us a mini TR!!!!!!


Sea- glad your message went well. I hope you guys can get away for a bit longer. I know an "okay" hotel in Laguna Beach you might like!
Hey- have you ever eaten at Gina's http://ginaspizza.com/menu/ ???? Mark and I DREAM about this place!!!! Their pizza was omgosh sooo good.
We ate at the one in Laguna twice in the three days we were there.

Well. . . I would have been glad to share yesterday, but NO ONE was here to share with! So I figured I would just make you all wait!

So here's my ADr story. Isn't there always a story with the MAYers?

I dial up Disney dining at 6:57 yesterday morning. Knowing that it takes about 2-3 minutes to get through all the prompts. Well instead I get a recording saying that business hours start at 7:00. Whatever. So I call back at 7:00 only to be told at 7:03 (by the time I went through all the prompts) that my expected wait time was "under 9 minutes". Okay. So 15 minutes later I decided that maybe booking ADR's online won't be so bad. So I fire up the laptop and go straight for my LeCellier day since that is the one that I am most worried about. Of course the time I want isn't open, but they had one 20 minutes earlier. So I am in the middle of booking it and a CM finally takes my call - 19 minutes after I was told my wait time would be under 9 minutes! So I get started with her. Very nice and seems to know what she is doing. YAY! I got Sci-Fi 20 minutes earlier than what I wanted. Got WCC at the time I wanted. Booked San Angel Inn for the night we plan to go to BRG since BRG doesn't take ressies. And just incase we decide we want a change. Got that one at the time I wanted. Got Captain's Grille 45 minutes later than what I wanted. Got Kona Cafe breakfast at the time I wanted. And then we got to LeCellier and at that point I wasn't sure if I had the one I was in the middle of booking online or not. So I had her book it anyway, 45 minutes later than what I wanted. Then she gets to my last day (14th) where I wanted CP breakfast and she goes to book it and then says - oh I can't book this for you, it says you are checking out of POR of the 13th. So I explain to her that I am but we are checking into OKW with another ressie #. She says - oh no problem, give me that #. I give it to her and she goes to book my CP breakfast and then says - nope, it won't let me, you have to call back on the 16th for that one. What??? Okay, so we say our good-byes and I hang up. I get back on the laptop to see if my LeCellier ADR was made online. Yes, it was! Now I have two!! An hour apart! So I decide to see if it will let me book CP for the 14th since I was still signed on under my POR ressie. And it did!!

So this is what I got ~

7th - Sci-Fi
8th - WCC
9th - San Angel Inn (will probably go to BRG though)
10th - Captain's Grille (may go to B&C instead)
12th - Kona Cafe / LeCellier (twice )
14th - CP

And that's my 90 day ADR story!
