These Are The MAYS of our Lives- The MAYers, Part VI

Hey everyone.

Belle is up, feeling much better than last night. SHe had her second dose of the Tamiflu this morning. So far so good. Her fever is way down, and she actually just came skipping thru the room with her Hess trucks in hand. (Yes- she may be a pink loving girly girl, but she loves her cars and trucks, LOL).

As of right now- we are playing the trip by ear. We are getting everything packed up and planning on driving to NC's part of the state late tonight, stay the night, sleep in in the morning and do the rest of the drive tomorrow. That way, she isn't in the car for an extended period of time tomorrow and if by chance she wakes up tomorrow and has taken a turn for the worse, we'll come on home. The game isn't until 7:30 Saturday night, so if she is still with fever, one of us will stay in the hotel with her that night.

Her Dr is a University of Oklahoma alum, and he looks like Denzel Washington. He is so dang funny- makes faces like Jim Carey and is just a hoot. We love to go see him, b/c we can talk football with him. ANyway- we told him we were supposed to be leaving today and he started whistling and looking up at the ceiling and scrunching his face up. He said "I can't say 'GO GATORS', but she's gonna' be all right to go." popcorn::

So now we wait it out.
Mark says she is a Game time decision. Our good friends texted Mark after he told them that and they came back with "ESPN has her listed as 'Probable'".
It made me giggle.:rotfl:

Shelly- I can't believe your DS would bust out with that. It's amazing what affects children.

NC----- I seriously can relate. MCat decided that for her pre Ap Biology- she would half a** it. So she got a high 'B'. So I'm fussing at her and she says "You mean you want me to get an 'A'? You said if I got a B in that class, it would be like getting an A in a regular class.":confused3 She got set to rights realllllllllllllllllllllllllly fast on that one.

Did you by chance get that book I was talking to everyone about? That Dr would say that in order to teach Chris responsibility, there would be no more football.
Yikes. Drastic.
His logic is that since He didn't do the 'A' part (not taking the test after being told over and over again to take it-- which you're only supposed to tell them once, according to the dr-) so the 'B' (playing football or a sport, essentially- anything that is a reward) would be forfeited. ANd he'd take the hard hit of the B grade, without any interference from a parent.
And no matter how many times he says sorry or I won't do it again, you don't back down.

It's really a hard concept for me. I just want to bail them out over and over again, go to bat for them, but he says to teach them how to be responsible and know that what you say is what you mean, you have to be tough and not give in.

It's a work in progress for me- but I swear I have learned a ton form this one book.
Hope the conference and fall out from all of this is smoothed over very quickly.

Okay- off to finish up packing.

Mari-------------- hugs--- think each day as "This one thing (test, assignment, lab, etc) is getting me one step closer to my goal."
It is tough. I know exactly all you are going thru. once you get into the nitty gritty of the nursing courses- it won't get easier, but it will be more fun.
(well, sometimes...:headache:)
That is until you hit Pharmacology and you stand before your instructor before you dose your patient and have to say- without any notes-- what the drug is, the classification, the dosage amount, how it's metabolized in the body, what systems it can affect, what the side effects are and why the drug is being given to this patient--- for thirty or so meds......... ahhhhh. Honey, I feel your pain. I certainly do.
But you may do better than me in Pharm. No one told me how awful it would be. I hated it and trudged thru it. Sounds like you are doing very well right now though, so keep it up.:wizard:

Now I leave. I'll try to check in when I can.

Ya'll have a great day and weekend.
:cloud9:

Jo

So glad Belle is keeping her Tamiflu down! :thumbsup2

It is raining cats and dogs here. Again! :sad2:

I went to the conference, which the teacher requested. After she emailed me about their lovely conversation. I sent her an email simply stating "Thank you for letting me know what was going on. We will be talking with Chris and you will be seeing a new Chris after we get finished with him." Well, late yesterday she sent an email that she wanted to conference about him. So that's why we met.

I did not request the conference, and I didn't ask to bail him out. He is unbailable. But there is hope for him. He can still pull an A for semester. I think the teacher wanted to meet with because I DIDN'T ask to bail him out. She commented today that most parents would be begging to bail their kids out, which really surprised me.

Sounds like I need this book... :rolleyes1

Do you want to drop it off while you are in town tonight?

NC - Teenage boys - don't get me started. Now you know why I have gray hair.

If someone took my blood pressure on Tuesday.... :scared1:

I can only imagine what it would have been. I am surprised I didn't burst a vessal

You guys are scaring me!!! :scared1:

NC- Your teenage boy story scares me. I'm glad I'm still about 10 years from having to face that challenge.

Hope everyone has a great afternoon!

And he is such a good boy... That is what is so crazy about this.

Going very well thank you Sea...

Aside from an upset stomach last night and something what feels like some hot flashes today... Jo what were your first flu symptoms.... ?????? :sad2:

Emily and Ethan both had a bit of an upset tummy too... not sure if it's something we ate...or some kind of flu I may be dealing with.

But the family room, guest room and office are coming along... almost ready to prime, paint, and then pick some flooring. :)

Not much going on here today. Just cleaning cleaning cleaning. My Tastefully Simple party is Saturday.

Going to Mickey's Trick or Treat Party tomorrow night at DCA! Woo hoo!

Ohhh man, I am sooo jealous! Wish I was there!

Talk about your timing there! Just love it!

Jo -- Glad to hear Belle is doing better. Damn that hamthrax putting a damper on people's trips! *shakes fist*

Tas, I had to read this three times. I thought you wrote: "Damn that hamthrax putting a diaper on people's trips!" :rotfl2:

When my mom told my little sister about that, my brother and I schemed and put one of her dolls (naked, of course) in her bed that night while she was sleeping. The next morning she proudly told us she "had a baby!" :rotfl:

 Yeah

Yes I am! 3 weeks away!

I sure hope you guys are not getting sick Lake. :wizard::grouphug:

DS8 does not look/feel so well since he got home today. :scared:

Yikes!!! I am afraid you guys are going to make me sick!!!

Hope all of you that are under the weather feel better soon.

Lake, there is a stomach thing going around here as well as the flu as well as a cough and have a fever thing.

Got my book!!!!

Boy, am I ready for Friday!

:lmao:

hey guys- quick pop in before we load the car.

Belle's temp seems to be a very low grade one if at all. She hasn't had any Motrin since 9am- so that's really an improvement.

Lake---------- oh wow- I hope you aren't getting it. Mine started with a headache- then a flush of hot all over my body which promptly started my tteth chattering and then it felt like someone was kicking the snot out of my body. I never got sick to my stomach- but a lot of people with the swine flu are. The dr last night said the crazy thing about this virus is that the CDC cannot pinpoint a pattern at all. Belle's started two nights ago with a slight, nagging type cough. 12 hours later she was complaining of a tummy ache and then the fever started at school.
I surely hope you guys aren't sick. If you think you may be getting the flu-- get to the Dr asap- to get Tamiflu. It truly is a great miracle drug.
Feel better.

Shelly- you guys can't get sick right now!!!!!:guilty::sad2: You have enough time, though- if it's gonna hit you guys- get to the dr quickly as well. The dr may give you all an Rx if only one of you tests positive.
Hope everyone feels better soon.

NC----- you are really doing a great job with Chris. You know you're a good parent. I think sometimes they just need to stretch their wings out now and then. It sounds like you don't even need the book- you were already doing what it would tell you to do anyway. Yay, NC!!!

Sea--- hey-- your cruise looks divine!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy you guys are going to get away for a bit. You deserve it. Have fun at the Halloween party. Did you tell us what you're going as, or are you surprising us???:wizard:popcorn::

Tas-- HAMthrax?????? :rotfl:

I ran out to Kohl's this morning- and they had these out-
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/kids/kck/PRD~481569/Kohls+Cares+for+Kids+Pig+Plush.jsp

I picked one up for Belle in honor of the Woo-Pig-Fluie. I think I shall tell her that the name of the pig has now been changed to Master Louie, The Woo-PIG-Fluie, Hamthrax.

Hey to Monny, Mari, RF (where are ya girl?) KB, AND TRIXIE!!!!! and all other MAYers near and dear to my heart.

We are headed South!!!!

:cheer2:GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GATORS!!!!!!:cheer2:

Have a great trip JO! Hope Belle feels better every day.

DS10 has had a nagging cough all week. But other than that he is fine. DS8 has had just a tiny cough and a plugged up nose. Then today he didn't look so well when he got off the bus. He felt hot to me, but his temp was normal when I took it. :confused3 He asked for some orange juice. Good thing I happened to get some yesterday. I don't normally have it. He drank a glass of that and went outside to play. I called him in to eat and he didn't want anything. I finally talked him into some yogurt and a banana. He has his last soccer practice tonight. Normally it's on Wednesday but this week they are having a skills clinic hosted by our college women's soccer team, tonight. He didn't want to miss that, so he asked if he could have apple juice in his water bottle instead of water and off he and DH went to soccer!

Hope it's just a little bug and nothing major. Although if we are going to get it I wish we would get it now instead of a week or 2 weeks from now.

The whole 'this little piggie went and got plague' thing is starting to make me really anxious. If I'm going to get it or Eliska is going to get it, I wish we would just get it and be done with it now. This waiting to see /if/ it's going to happen is really getting on my nerves!

Horrible of me to wish my child would get sick...I know :(

Well, everyone, DD7 is SICK! She's been messing around with a stuffy nose/slight cough for about a week, and last evening BAM! Sicker than a little doggie. Fever, cough, didn't want to eat, the blahs.

I took DD10's temp tonight (just for kicks and giggles) and hers was slightly elevated. She then proceeded to fall asleep on the family room floor before 8 p.m. So I'm pretty sure she's getting it too. Lucky me. :sad2:

There are now 48 schools closed in our area due to illness...including the middle school where DD10 had orchestra this morning :headache:, the other middle school and one out of seven elementaries. I'm sure ours won't be far behind. This is getting ridiculous!

I was planning to take them to get the seasonal flu vaccine tomorrow at the health deptartment (the ONLY place that has any left), but now I can't. And it may not matter anyway at this point.

GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!

Morning.

We're waking up in Little Rock this morning.:goodvibes

Belle hasn't had fever for 24 hours. YAY! She now just is a bit stuffy, a little runny and is coughing a teeny bit. We're going to dose her with meds soon and get on our way.

Gosh-- why is it that the MAYers always run around one another in sickness? Did we take that vow--"In sickness and in health" or something???:lmao:

Trix- I sure hope this morning finds the girls well. Ifyou suspect the flu- get them to the dr. Tamiflu has worked quickly on Belle.

Shelly- hope your boys will feel better really soon and not get sick between now and the trip.

Lake- how are you guys doing today?

Okay- all other MAYers hello-
I've got to get myself going.

Oh yeah- when we checked in to the hotel, it smelled like WDW! IDK why.

Oh yeah- AND, p.s.- Shelly- my DH is going to be in Orlando for work the same week as you.:headache: I wish I was going.:sad1:
How can you go to orlando and never even go into wdw??????????

Have a good day MAYers.

Jo

Morning...

We are all feeling a lot better. So I am thinking it was more of a 24 hour gastro thing that quickly went through the kids and I and that was it. You'll hear no objections from me about it.

I hope everyone else is hanging in there and starts to feel better soon too.

Its raining here today and a bit cooler again... but the colous are really starting to come out and resemble fall... I Love it!!!!

I can't believe all the MAYers are so sick! :sad2:

Hope the girls are felling better today Trix. Glad Belle has recovered so quickly JO.

The boys were okay this morning and went off to school. Still no fevers, so keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way. DS8's nose is still all gross. He has to breathe through his mouth. He'll probably end up with a sore throat now.

Still getting things ready for the party tomorrow. I have to make all the dips and bread and cake this afternoon. Then I need to start making calls for the book fair. It's the week before we leave.
