Do most of you put your christmas decorations up around thanksgiving???

Or do you keep the two holidays separate.

As you know our Canadian thanksgiving was early October. So we definitely get a holiday and occasion all of its own. Which is all about giving thanks for the leaves and the harvest, family and friends ect...
So the two holidays being farther apart are very much separate and different.

With having it so much closer to christmas...how do you keep Thanksgiving its own holiday, considering half of North America already has christmas trees up, and lights on the house :rotfl:???

We never put our Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving. Maybe the day after, but never before. So it will likely be this weekend! And they will probably come down the day after Christmas. I hate the clutter after Christmas. :confused3 Can't explain it, but everything must come down within a few days.

I second this.... We will put ours up the weekend after Christmas and then it comes down right after the new year. I still think a Christmas tree is needed for New Years Eve. :confused3

Santa used to put up the tree Christmas Eve at my parents house - so we would have the tree up until the middle of January or beginning of Febuary before it came down when I lived at home.

Here is the one I got at World of Disney! Up in the top right corner. I thought I had a better picture of it (closer up) but I can't find it. I will have to take a picture when we get it hung!

Good job!

I don't usually put up decorations until after Thanksgiving. However, my mom and her sisters are different stories all together. My mom has had her tree up for at least a week and has already traveled to Louisiana to help my aunt there with decorating her door and putting up her Christmas Village (and it's quite a village...like HUGE).

She's going to help my aunt in Phoenix decorate her tree and door this coming weekend after Thanksgiving just before they head to meet us at DL.

They are Christmas /obsessed/ but REALLY good at it. My mother's Christmas trees always look like those in magazines and department stores.

She made me a black, silver and white wreath this year to match my Nightmare Before Christmas stuff. I can't wait to see it.

I have to admit I'm horrible with taking them down. There was one year where I still had decorations up at the end of January. Another year that I managed to take the decorations down but NOT the tree until February. I'm so darn lazy sometimes.

Good morning Mayers!

The holiday traffic has overtaken Los Angeles. It took us 2 hours to drive down to the park last night. Stalled cars, accidents and a brush fire caused numerous delays.

By the time we got there it was already dark, but beautiful! It is all decorated out. Here are a few shots...

The park was busy - but I expected that because of the TG holiday. Didn't run into any nasty or smelly people...LOL.

We celebrate our friend's son 8th birthday - his daddy is in Qatar for the next 9 months. I spent a little extra time with him, we rode POTC and he sat beside me during Fantasmic!. He is such a good boy!

We normally set up after my wife get's through with school, which is usually around a week before Christmas and don't take stuff down until the middle of January.

We have a first and first rule in regards to our tree and decorations.

The weekend closest to the first of december we put the tree and decoartions. We make a fun and now annual evening out of it. A holiday movie for the kids on tv while we have snacks and drinks and decorate all together. Then on January first it all gets put away again.

Sea- glad you made it home safe and sound. DL is beautiful- glad you were able to spend some time with that soldier's son. Sweet.

Shelly-- I love your wreath. So very cute! Is it going in your house or on your door? Your Photopass pic is so cute. Love the falling snow.

Tas- I hope you have a wonderful DL vacation-- I know you must be so very excited.:lovestruc

Happy Thanksgiving to all the MAYers.

Glad you enjoyed the DL pictures, Jo.

We had a good time with our friends - catching up and sharing what has been happening the last few weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Shelly - love the photopass. Will that be your Christmas card?
