Actually there are heating pads for feet, check Google for Hotteeze. They're around £10 for 10 pads.

When we were their last in December a jumper and a thick coat was sufficient for me but I really want is a pair of thin gloves that still keep my hands warm so that I can record parades and such like without getting frozen hands - my DLRP gloves are a bit too thick but they were the thinest they had there.

back in the days when i used to go snowshoeing (centuries ago it seems), my preference was for silk long underwear.....it avoids the problem of itchiness....it's also much thinner than regular long underwear so you don't get that tight clothing feeling...
