There is Pictures of the Old Swamp Trail

Good early Sunday morning!
I am very intrigued by the pictures of the "old swamp trail". Where is this located at?:confused3

Ruh Roh!! Did you see Scooby Doo and Shaggy back there by any chance? I'm surprised that area's not blocked off since planks are breaking as you walk on them! The pictures are gorgeous though.

Behind Settlement Trading Posts there is a shell rock road follow it to a bridge there is a sign swamp trail go left you will see the old log cabin they use to rent out there is a opening in the woods follow it until you see the blocked off boardwalk you are there.

Thanks for the info. Got another question for you. We rode the boat from the Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge a few months ago for the first time. We noticed the island that is behind the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge and wondered what used to be there. Does anyone know?:confused3

April 1976 Treasure Island renamed Discovery Island and became an accredited Zoological park abandoned a little before Disney open Animal Kingdom. Still abandoned birds of all types have made it there home. If you go to the beach at FW or WL one or two hours before dark you will see some amazing birds. We have seen American bold eagles osprey, owls and many your birds heading to the Island for the night.:cool1:

Actually, it was still open a bit "after" Animal Kingdom opened. The contract with Friskies had not yet expired :-)

Had to post this photo of the trail. Someone wondered why it wasn't blocked off. The first walk is, BUT if you walk a little further, it is accesible. Thanks for starting this thread, I had never explored back that far!!!!!

I thought I knew all the areas of FW to walk - where is that?

Thanks!

Behind Settlement Trading post. Take a walk on the trail, go past the little log cabin. Keep walking, and walking, the path/road will narrow a bit, but keep going and you will find the old Swamp Trail.:woohoo:

Thanks! I did this past Sunday what I have done before - veered more to the right, past the cabin. I guess that wasn't the right way. :)

Thanks! I was with a mere minute or two of it, and didn't even know what the sign meant (the swamp trail sign). I'll have to go there next time, I feel like my walk wasn't finished.

I actually didn't even know that the nature trail behind the meadows was there until I did the Haunted Hayride in October. I thought I'd known everyplace to walk.

I walked this trail several years ago. The wooden walkway was in bad shape then. But I see from some pictures that a tree has fallen and there is now lots of debree. Also now it looks as if it just ends at the water. It used to go over the water and connect to the other side so that it made like a u-turn in a way. That is a shame. That made for a nice walk. I am going to be staying there this time and I will probably check it out when I am there.

I have a number of photos of it from a few months back, but they were supposedly dismantling it then. :(

Boy does those pictures bring back fond memories! DBrothers and I used to make sure and do the Swamp Trail every trip. Haven't been back to Ft Wilderness since my parents sold their trailer but working on DH to buy one of our own .... would do tenting but I'm getting a little old to stoop in and out of the tent! :lmao:

Ah the good 'ol days of Swamp Trails and train rides. With every thing going high tech and modern it would be so nice if there was at least one place that still had that old Florida charm at Disney. Don't get me wrong I have to have my cable while camping, but I'd still pay top dollar to see Fort Wilderness add back some of it's older stuff like the train and trail too.

lol, the train has been gone a longgggggggggg time, I doubt that is ever coming back....

However, if you want some nostalgia, head over to FortWildernessrr.com, they have tons of info and pictures on the Fort Railroad!!
